The Night of Spirits The Night of Spirits is a night of festival that takes place on the night of the Winter Solstice. In the legends of Inora, it was on the longest night where the Inoran dragons used to steal the children from their homes as well as guide the dying souls to their eternal rest. Instead of living that night in fear, the people created a festival that was meant to keep the dragons at bay. Each year, on that day, people light the streets of their town and the windows of their home with lanterns and magical orbs to keep the whole town lit so that they will spot any dragons flying ahead. To accompany the lights, each person dresses their children in a costume as well as hides their face with a mask to hide them from the creatures that would steal them. However, instead of staying inside, people tend to gather within the courtyard of their towns and bring food, stories, music, and other means of entertainment to stay awake and to forget the dangers that lurk in the sky. Over the years, it became a tradition for whole households to disguise themselves and to recreate a night of spook to remember the creatures that used to threaten their families. It is a way to keep the tale of the Inoran dragons alive and to not forget the horror that they used to bring. The Flower Festival The Flower Festival is a smaller festival that is celebrated in most major cities and towns, but not always celebrated in the smaller villages. In the past, the festival was celebrated a week after the snow had melted and the weather has warmed. It was a day where people would get together and prepare their seeds and equipment for the sowing of the crops and the fields. However, due to the nature of winter, and how snow has a canny way of leaving and coming back, it also became known as the day of fools. The festival is now celebrated during the spring equinox. Everyone gets together and begins preparing for the summer and celebrating winter’ The Week of Magic The Week of Magic was an old festival that used to occur twice a year in the summers of the North and South. It was an event that would begin three days before the summer solstice and continue three days afterwards. Magic was said to flow through the ground and nature, only to be released from the blossoms that would form on trees and plants. It would flow through the air like pollen, scattering itself across the land and giving life and energy to everything it touched. Day of Remembrance This holiday occurs the day after the second full moon after the summer solstice. This day is meant as a celebration of the end of the dragon wars that once plagued the lands. They pay honour to the ghosts of those who have passed and light a candle in their memory. On this day, people also create handmade gifts and exchange them with family and close friends. It is used as a symbol of being grateful of those around you and recognizing that the peace had been obtained as a communal effort. In certain settlements, there is often an exchange of names where a person will create a single gift for the person’s whose name they drew instead of having to create hundreds throughout the year for everyone that they know. The Festival of Harvest The Festival of Harvest is a 3 day festival that is viewed as a day of peace amongst the inhabitants of Inora; everyone is encouraged to get together. It is held on the day before, the day of, and the day after Sameros’ fall equinox, but the location of the festival rotates every year between Sameros and Idrel where people may experience two very different lifestyles. The Leaders of every major town, city, and Hold begin gathering on a monthly basis the month after the festival is over to begin planning for the next as well as weekly and biweekly during the two months leading up to the festival. Dragonriders, magic users, sailors, and creature owners offer free transport to and from the festival as part of the peace treaty; there are also Shireven portals located at most major towns and cities so that the smaller places within a day’s walk may use those to attend the festival. The event is packed with music and celebration. Any and all disaccords are dealt with as soon as they are noticed by a Leader or dragonrider, and the individuals who were part of the disruption are returned to their home. |
