About Darvulok Base There was once a time where dragonriders had no laws or rules, where they could roam the lands without a worry, where only the winds were their guide. As time flowed steadily through its stream, that era has long since come and gone, leaving only a few desperate riders who try urgently to cling to their freedom within a world that desires not to have them. When your single option to survive is to steal, and you have to sleep with one eye open at night, times become tough. Stuck in a place where people are united only by their frantic need for freedom, it is challenging to control the people who do break the law, who will do anything to give the whole settlement in which they live a bad name. However from high upon their mighty perch, the Guardians - the noble, high, stuck up slaves who look to the Holds - rule the lands of Inora. They know not what it is like to have no fertile lands, nor to have to pillage and steal because there are no items of decent quality to trade, and no other land that is big enough for them to relocate to. As their crops succumbed to the first frost, the Rogues, as they are now called, fell to their knees under the pressure of the world around them. Backstabbers and fiends amongst honorable folk, they do what they must to survive. That doesn’t, however, make them all bad people. There are simply some amongst them who are untamable within their home of intense rules and laws. Some people who do not want to acknowledge the fact that if they continue with their dangerous ways, the Base will be no more. Where death is a mercy, and living is like breathing in a lungful of knives, the once Free Riders, now Rogues, strive to survive, fighting a war that they cannot win. They are a group of people who are misunderstood by the rest of Inora, united solely by their unwritten code, their leaders work together to maintain the order. Once part of the Base, there is no turning a blind eye to the darker aspects of life. Ignorance is no longer, and the view isn’t stellar. It is the torturous prison of those seeking freedom. |

Here is a little bit of information that is good to know when creating a character that is either in the base, or a going to join the base. Many people learn these rules the hard way... It’s good to follow this when making a character. The people of Darvulok have one large threshold where every member of their community can live when times are tough or if they feel the need to unite. Usually, they are spread throughout their land, but that doesn’t mean that they do not keep in close communication. People are expected to pop in to the Base at least once a week. If only for this reason, it is mostly the people with dragons that the farthest out. Darvulok is located on the same continent as Sameros Hold. They are hidden behind the mountain range, splitting wasteland to lush haven. They can also be accessed through the Gulf of Farlok. To outsiders, Darvulok is a heaven. It is surrounded by thick jungles, ‘lush’ lands, streams, rivers, and a vast sea. Many believe that they live a very good life; however, towards the mountain range, there is a wasteland. It is a constant reminder of what Wiskan can do if it is allowed to touch the ground. Though suspected but shrugged off, the land of the Base is poisonous. The poison of Wiskan is hard to detect and its effects are delayed over time. The results for these are smaller, sickly clutches, miscarriages in both dragon and human, illnesses, and poor health at birth. Those that manage to survive until adulthood have become more resilient and resistant; however, when they do get sick, it has a higher fatality rate. The war between the Base and the Weyr has left a strong impact on the denizens. The hands of many have been soiled with blood and very few are proud of it. There were fatalities on both sides and though some regret the actions that were taken, the past is the past and they must move on. Unwritten Code of the Base -- Do not kill humanoids or dragons. -- If you don’t get caught, you can’t get blamed. -- The children come first, always. Whether in food, shelter, clothing, or otherwise. -- Do not do anything that will bring suspicion upon Darvulok. -- Everyone must do their part and partake in their duties. -- Anyone has a right to demand a change in leadership; however proper cause is needed. -- Don’t piss off the leaders. -- Any action that deserves a consequence will receive one. -- Kithkanan territory is off limits due to past conflict. -- When in danger, unite. -- Outsiders are in treated with respect until they cause trouble. -- Trust has to be earned and worked for. -- If you find a killer, or a ‘black sheep’ within the Base, report them immediately. |

Leaders - The Leaders are a group of 5-10 people that work together to run the Base. All the information and current events passed through them, and there are very few actions of which they are not aware. A few of these leaders are not known as such to the common public so that they can gather information freely. -Must be approved by Admin- Assassins - These are the people that are called when certain actions simply have to be taken care of. They are controlled directly by the leaders but their identity is unknown to everyone else. They are also the ones who are most watched by those above them. -Must be approved by Admin- Stewards - There are 3-4 people that deal with the overall order of the Base. They assign chores and duties, and ensure that a task is covered if something isn’t being done. Messengers - These people have the duty of gathering information from around Inora, and to bring it to the leaders. They are the eyes and ears of the Base, and when needed, they act as spies. These are the people that appear as neither Base rider or Guardian. Healers - Whether for dragons or humanoids, these people are the doctors of the Base. Harpers - These are the teachers of the Base. They teach the children along with the parents, and provide entertainment when it is needed. |
