Contest setup.; What and how?

From my thread:

Some members from each faction will discuss and reserve a certain number of skylands (A number sufficient for every contestant to participate) for contestants to run their influence on.

Each faction will have the opportunity to assemble small teams of influence runners, which will participate in the contest for domination of the Skyland.
These influence runners will be sorted by average influence gains (bracketing will have to be discussed) and each division will run specifically for an assignated skyland, which will match their abilities, for a set period of time (probably a week or two.)

At the end of the contest, the faction that will hold the most skylands will win. In case of a tie, the highest grossing faction will have the upper hand. These victory condition may be discussed later.

It has then been suggested that we divide brackets by plane, instead of performance.

Issues at hand:

-Bracketing: How we divide participants?

-Skylands to chose: Self-explanatory

-Effect on regular influence: How can we also make the contest enjoyable for those who will not participate?

-Victory conditions: Numbers or Flags?

-Duration of contest: How long should it run?

-Prizes: What do we give out to winning entities?

We should start by sorting out how we can play it best for people who do not intend to participate. We can then proceed to sort out bracketing, choice of skylands, victory conditions, duration of the contest and prizes, in that order.

Sign here if you have acknowledged the order of the discussions, and please explain why it should be changed, if you think this is not the best order.

No idea, especially given brown. They look like they have the biggest gap between them and all the other factions, so if you're aiming for a level playing field (it seems you are) then they need to be given serious consideration. Or is brown not meant to have a shot at winning this contest?

The question is how many.. if it's just one per faction, I see it as possible... more than that gets difficult because purple controls only two and one is a capital. But I guess how many rests on how many people are participating.

As many in the Red Faction have said recently, we're in the middle of something. We're willing to compromise so that the contest can happen (choosing a skyland, entering contestants), but we'd largely like to be able to continue with our current goals and plans (which we are having plenty of fun with). And extrapolated from that, any skylands we're currently fighting over, we'd prefer not to have be contest skylands. You will have to talk with other factions to see their preferences as well. I saw Ninety from brown speak up about how they also had something going on that they didn't want interrupted.

Numbers, easier for bracketing, may not be many flags

Week, but we're open to different ideas.

Good question...

I think it's a fine order, <signature>, but there are some other issues... like how do we know how many skylands we'll need if we don't even know who is participating? How are we going to go about identifying those who are participating and those who are not?

Also, you did not explicitly say this in your above post, but would the situation be that the chosen contest skyland's inf is zeroed for the week of the contest and then returned to what it was pre-contest? Or would people still be able to run there that are not part of the contest? Or is this something still to be decided? Either way, I think it should be stated *clearly* above, with no ambiguity.

Also, I think Knappe mentioned the idea of possibly holding the contest on the *Refueling Stations*. I don't know how possible that would be for the devs (lots of work? a little work?), but it was an interesting and original idea that would not interfere with the main skyland influence. Could also give a reason for the contest (pirates taking over the FS's) and provide for lots of RP. Just throwin it out there.
