Are you guys really wanting me to be a moderator? I can give it a go because I don’t think it’ll be much of a difficult task. |

It's not a moderator position, though, it's admin one. So has to do with the site's functioning, like the time photobucket went dumb and we had their squares all over the site, not just moderating what people post. |

I didn't want to interfere with the voting process so I remained silent until now. Here are the results: Spoiler: click to toggle @TheGoodGentleman: Nice story you got there. You know, it's kind of funny that you didn't learn anything from it and tried acting like the guy you described in it. In fact, you totally succeeded. I've noticed your troll-like behavior since the beginning. However, I am nothing like you and while you thought the guy on your board couldn't win, I totally expected you to. In fact, I was counting on it. Who said you could "concede your candidacy"? That's not how it works. And since you're the winner of the poll above and you can't back out I am promoting you as the new administrator of Infernal Works! Congratulations! Or should I say "you asked for it"? Well either way that's my decision and while it's not what you were going for with your shitposting now you'll have to go along with it. @AlexxShadenk777: That's not how I remember that story. You were an asshole. To me, to omni, to everyone. You also abused your power as an administrator at the end. And omni and Vertigo were promoted to administrators in HA, right before it fell apart - that's why they were the ones who started IW in the first place. You'll have to agree with me though, we did a good job. Debug mode, model scaling, bone editing, effects editing... all things that happened here. It's IW that made DMC4 modding good and took it to the level it is. I expected you to join IW long before you actually did, but I guess you had your reasons not to. That was then. Now things are different. You are different. To be honest you and Creelien were my original choices for the new administrators. I discussed this with omni months ago and we both agreed that you two seemed like the only people for the job. He said (and I quote) "Alexx might be an asshole, but he's a competent asshole. And he does have experience with maintaining a forum.". I was a bit disappointed when you brought that HA/DT shit up, but it wouldn't really change my initial decision. I mean it was so obvious that even Cissney said it. That's the thing, Alex, we still treat you with respect after all that time and we would totally give you this forum. Or omni would. Because he's not really that bad guy you described. But I am... @Everyone: So omni told me to just talk to Alex and Creelien, promote them and be done with this. But no, I needed to start a contest and see what the people wanted. This whole thing wasn't about me wanting to retire - it was about you, dear community, and what you wanted. And I saw what you want. Or what you don't want to be precise. I would've closed this spoiled excuse-of-a-forum by now if it wasn't for all the good people we had in the past and all the work we had done. To be honest you don't deserve a new administrator and you don't deserve keeping this forum alive. It's been going downhill for years now. However, I can't just undo everything that happened here. It's not my decision to make and even if it was it wouldn't be fair to some of you. So while I can see that you've changed over the years, Alex, and I can say that you deserve to be an admin, I won't promote you. Creelien didn't want to be one either, even if I asked him to join the contest myself. So this is what we'll do - I'll promote TheGoodGentleman since all 3 active members of this forum voted for him and I'll just let this forum flow to whatever direction it will. I won't fix stuff when it breaks anymore and I won't resolve whatever issues you might have. You're on your own with your new administrator and his idea of "literally doing nothing" as such. Good luck! PS: Popcorn's on me! |

@Lucas: I think your spoiler image is broken, it's not loading for me. And yes, I can imagine of how much of an asshole I was to pretty much anyone back then. I was clinically depressed for many years and couldn't possibly see how self-destructive I was until I got out of it. Out of curiosity, I also rejoined PhantomBabies a couple years ago and browsed a little bit for my old posts and I cringed at nearly every single one. It was a sad experience to read all that garbage I was all too proud to type. I'm glad to hear that even through all that, you're still kind enough to lend me your respect. There was a reason I brought up the past and it wasn't to stroke my ego, "oh look at how humble I am, everyone!" or whatever. I brought it up because even though that was the young, reckless, stupid, depressed, suicidal and self-destructive me, it's something that I can never forget or overcome. I have so many regrets and mistreating people (not just on the internet) for fickle reasons and in the most obnoxious and infantile manner, is something that I had to work on to grown out of. I was petty enough to make racist jokes and act like it was okay and even lie through my teeth if I had to if push came to shove. I'm still an asshole, but I look for valid reasons to act like one. So that's why it's important to me that I stay honest. I brought it up because people deserved to know. And like I said, I never expected to win the administrator spot anyway. Anyway, I agree with you, you guys did a great job indeed, but perhaps this downhill path is part of the collective inability to criticize honestly or objectively any newcomers and any mods whatsoever. There's so much shovelwear on here, far too may mods with colorblind palettes and awful effect swaps and utterly broken motion swaps. There's simply no quality control and by that I mean this community isn't condusive for i.e. someone new to join, learn how to mod, receive feedback, improve and evolve, etc.. Too many members on here are all too accepting of any mod, regardless of quality. Everything "looks awesome" and everything is a "great job", even when it's glitchy, even when it's clearly unfinished, even if it's blatantly terrible from any point of view. Without criticism, nobody learns anything and nobody makes anything worthwhile. Of course, "nobody" is a grievous hyperbole; me, TRP, Creelien, serpentiem and Kittn and arguably FlairDarkSlayer are possibly the only modders to have ever made completed and polished mods, nobody else seems to even try to be a good modder. That's not to say that none of the people I just mentioned never made something terrible (myself included), just seems to me that we're the only ones who ever truly learned and strived to make something better than before. I'm deliberately not taking into account the people who devised the modding tools because they seemingly abandoned the community altogether (i.e. jamesuminator). And as for trying to be good; take vainiuss1 for example, he's pretty much the only one willing to do dozens of model edits, but he hasn't finished a single one of his mods and nobody seems to be capable or willing to collaborate with him either. If I was any good with modelling I'd be the first guy to do it. He's full of potential yet utterly incapable of finishing anything and I partly blame this community for that kind of attitude. You're all seemingly too afraid to criticize anything and so afraid of rejection that you can't even push yourselves or eachother in any way, let alone positively. And seniority doesn't mean you get to put anything out and be immune to any criticism. In fact, I would highly encourage people to go back to any thread about any mod, including mine, and nitpick the shit out of everything. It's okay to say something looks bad and it's even better if you have an idea on how to make it good somehow. Stephen King once said that if his editor never criticized his writing, he would instantly fire him and hire someone else willing to do it. Step up, people. For your sake. |

I agree. And I'm an asshole sometimes too. Even my last post in this thread was a dick move. But it had to be done. You of all people should know why I did that and trust me when I say that I've actually done you a favor by not promoting you. Also the downfall of IW wasn't only because the community is always perfectly nice to everyone, but also because the key members who built that community (incl. myself) stopped being active and moved on with their lives (again incl. myself). I remember a period where I wouldn't even log in here for like 6 or 7 months. DMC modding and IW aren't my priority anymore and actually haven't been for many years. About mods themselves. Well I don't know what your definition of "finished mod" is, but I'd say my "Double Rose" and "Gladius" are some of my proudest works ever. They're super simple, yet no one managed to make them before I did (because Blue Rose was flipped and crashed the game and then I discovered the scaling thing, etc). My point is, it's not always about how much your mod changes the game. Sometimes the simplest things can be pretty amazing. Also I remember that you actually liked Soulless Nero (back in DT) which was a collaboration/team mod by RazoR and me. And you probably haven't seen some of the mods I've done here, some of which are good and some are "meh" I guess. However, don't take into account my recent SE attempts, they were mostly tests and failed ones. Also about modeling - I can't say I'm a pro, but I'm decent I guess and I know some stuff about modeling, texturing and materials/shading. (I even had a tutorial about texturing in the DMC4 KB, but the screenshots got deleted by our lovely ImageShack in 2013.) Anyway, in DMC4:SE it's a pain in the ass. Also I don't really like (and never really used) 3DS Max. So there's that. Back in 2009-2011 I was the guy pushing for model editing. I remember talking to n3Xus and Sharki here and giving them pointers on what I know about the model format and sharing some C++ library I had from Surveyor at XentaX. I really wanted it to happen, but by the time it actually did I had already moved on. Also it's not that good, requires a specific version of 3DS Max (2012) and is even worse for Special Edition. Well I guess I gave it a try at least. Wouldn't really bother importing anything again, though. I also blame Capcom for this in a way. I mean look at what Skyrim's Special Edition did. Modding was already a thing before it, but now the devs added mod support officially. It's still overpriced in my opinion, because it's the same game, but hey it adds something new after all. And all we got are 3 more playable characters (with reused assets) without even getting some cool bonus cutscenes that would explain their story better. Everyone moved to SE because of Vergil, yet the original DMC4's modding is way better. Anyway, I agree that Creelien and Flair have grown a lot since HA. You and TRP were always decent and I personally like some of your mods a lot. I have learned a thing or two myself. I mean I didn't know much about Assembly and Debuggers/Cheat Engine before I started hacking into DMC4. Anyway I'm glad we're having this conversation. And again you and Creelien would've been my first choice if these trolls around here didn't decide they want to do this the hard way. |
