Ive been messing around with this for the last two days. It does what it attempts to do very well as well as doing a crap tone of other things.
There's lots and lots of custom options within the game config file to help the user out.

I ran into issues relating to my controller. No matter what I did once I had styleswitcher enable the game had difficulties recognising right trigger after cutscenes - and hitting R2 would pause the game. I noticed cutscenes are disabled by default and perhaps these 2 things are directly related to each other. But no matter what I did I couldnt stop the game from seeing R2 as the start button and I eventually gave up and unistalled. It may very well work without cut scenes (?) but I like the cut scenes a lot.

So dude - here is what you have to do - pasted from Nexus page

1 Download the mod
2 Download a program that patches the game files for you - xdelta ui
3 Open the patcher and do the following
a) Start xdelta UI. Click on "Open" right next to "Patch", navigate to the folder where you extracted the contents of the archive to and select "snd.xdelta".
b) Click on "Open" next to "Source File" and navigate to the data folder inside your Devil May Cry 3 root directory, by default this will be "%PROGRAMFILES(X86)%\Steam\SteamApps\common\Devil May Cry 3\data". Select "GData.pak".
c) For the last parameter click on "..." next to "Output File", navigate to your Devil May Cry 3 root directory and save the file as "GData.afs". (note this is steamapps\common\devil may cry 3 - do not put it in the data file)
d) Click "Patch"
4) Copy "dsound.dll" and "StyleSwitcher.ini" to your Devil May Cry 3 root directory.

It ought to work after that.
