Debug mode for Steam DMC4

Hi.
Found out about the debug patch for DMC4 not too long ago, rushed over here to download it in a heartbeat.
I've got the Steam version of the game and after extracting the folder and .exe files and launching the DX9/DX10 executable I just get a black screen.

Is there any workaround besides getting a retail version of the game? If not, will the Steam version of the game be supported by the patch later on?

Thanks in advance.

It should work... The files are the same after all. Or are they? O_O

It was my belief that the executables in Steam versions are sometimes different from the retail ones.
Wasn't the Steam version released after the retail patch? :iunno:

And Devil Nero, thanks for the hint, I'll check it out.
