Is the patch necessary for modding DMC3?

Your argument is invalid.
I've been having problems trying to mod DMC3, everytime I try to import a file(like, trying to swap pl013 with a renamed pl000), it gives me an error message, this happens everytime I try to do anything in AFSExplorer, and when I Update GData.afs(both overwritting it and with another name, like GData2.afs), when I try to look it up where it's suppossed to be, it isn't there.

Also, Python is being a bitch and won't let me open any of Jesuminator's tools, they instantly close. So I downloaded the patch to see if this would solve the issue, and to my rotten luck, the patch broke the crack I made so I could play without the disc, and had to uninstall the whole thing, now I'm installing again, so there's the problem, if I download the patch, I can't play(even with the disc inside).

Any suggestions?

Check if Gdata.afs isn't set to read only. Also run AFSExplorer as administrator or disable UAC.
Jamesuminator's tools are to be used from the command line, arguments are in the readme.
And this link for the patch includes a cracked executable: http://www.mediafire.com/?pnnq4srgz46qzao

Now I've got another problem, when I rename it back to GData.pak, it stays as an AFS file, and the game can't run it.

You should get a warning or something when you try to rename it. That should tell you what the problem is.
Was AFSExplorer open when you tried to rename gdata.afs?

I only got the warning when renaming it to .afs, but it didn't show up when I renamed it back to .pak; and no, I closed it and then renamed it(after updating the afs file).

there is no need to rename to afs in the first place, the afsexplorer recogize GData.pak as afs file. When you import the GData, choose all files to show, then pick GData to open it.

make sure you can see the file extension in oreder to rename it

And by sexy I don't mean anything like naked women fighting tentacle rape monsters, the "other" sexy, the one involving badassery.

Kitten gave up on DMC when they announced DmC.

Another reason to hate CAPCOM.

Devil May Cry will sadly(let's hope not) meet the same end that Dino Crisis did, one shitty sequel nobody asked for and that had nothing to do with the original games, and what will CAPCOM say? "Oh, the sales and reviews of this game weren't as good as the previous games, that means people don't like the saga anymore, is not like, because this game feels nothing like the previous ones and we made a mistake, it's the fans that don't like it anymore".
