I've been working on some changes to IW, mainly tabbed categories and replacing zetaboards' search engine with google's. Those who want to see how it's going can check the test board: http://s1.zetaboards.com/omnicut/index/ (Don't be surprised if something looks broken, that's why I call it the test board) Also Vertigo and I have made a decision regarding moderators and there will be a news topic about this soon. Anyway my classes are about to start again (march 14) and since I won't have time to do much IW related stuff after that, I'd like to know if you guys have any suggestions, ideas or complaints that I can work on now. For example: -Suggestions for the new look? -Maybe some changes to the boards organization? Forums or categories that you want added\removed\merged\split? -Should we change the way the knowledge base works? -Do you feel we need a topic explaining all the features of the forum, including some tips on how to use them? -Is there something you'd like to have a specific forum to discuss? -Do you want more smileys? Or to replace the ones we have altogether? -Monthly contests? (Or contest ideas?) These are only a few things that I thought you might have some ideas about, feel free to think outside the box. Btw I didn't include "Finish the goddamned ppJoy tutorial already!" because I know that's implied in every post anyone makes in this thread XD |

That explains it. I suggest things that take massive space(like motions) to be put in spoilers. This way we can just drop down the ones we want, without having to scroll past all the ones we don't want. Spoilers work kind of like folders, you go into the models(example) folder(think of this first folder as a topic) and everything is in it's own folder after that, rather than being all in one massive folder. At least for the tutorials(like motions) where there are different categories. Something similar to what Game Tabs does with it's home page would be nice. Basically what I mean is right now we can only see the most recent post of any category, and have to go into the category to see if anything else is new, rather than just seeing that there has been recent posts elsewhere on homepage. Game Tabs has a 5 most recent things for all of it's site areas, maybe we could have something like 5 or 10 most recent posts. Or we could have a 'New posts' button to click like Steam has. Awesome! I have only one question, what will happen with the other themes? Will it work for them too? And if it won't then will you edit them or you'll delete them? And if this is done by the Theme Layout, will you leave the old forum style as an option in a theme? [EDIT] Also, about the new forums, well I want (as before) a 3D forum/section. (Modeling, rendering, animation, WIP, etc...) And about the contests, (Sorry V, I'll tell them...) V and I thought about something like "Mod of the Month" a while ago. We never did it, though. (Obviously...) Edited by LucasRaven, Mar 7 2011, 01:29 PM.

Well, I have one suggestion about the forum organization. As you all know, when you click on the thread's name when you're logged in, it opens at its most recent reply, or at the last unread post (it opens at the beginning of the thread only when you're not logged in). Wouldn't it be more convenient, if clicking on the thread's title would direct to its beginning instead, and if there was another button next to its title that would direct to the newest post (if such would appear) or to the most recent one? |

@Lelouch22229: I think it's a little cliché. @7foot_sativa: About the spoiler thing: I thought about doing that a while ago but it would make copying the whole list pretty hard, in case people want to have an offline version. And about the recent posts thing, at the bottom of the page we have an "Active Topics" button that shows all topics with new posts across the whole board. Is that enough for you? @Lucas: The new features will work for all themes, but they will need some extra skinning. There used to be an option to revert to the old forum layout, but it was buggy and unreliable, so I removed it. I can work on it if there is demand though. A 3D section might be good, but I don't know if there is enough interest from our members. And the problem with the "Mod of the Month" thing is that we don't always have good mods every month. @Xaneth: You may be right about that. |

Wow that small list of buttons, I never even noticed them(not sure if I even scrolled that far). That's awesome. |

I agree with you that it's hard to notice, so I merged that bottom bar with the submenu, and made it a dropdown menu called "View" inside the top bar to save space and make it more visible. You can only see it if you register at the test board though. I also moved the footer, with the theme selector and board clock, to the top area. ... I'm getting pretty good at this. |
