So here was I looking for a file hosting service with more versatility, something I could use to make a modding files/game archives repository or things of that kind, and I found DropBox. Not only is it the most awesomest file host ever, I get +250mb extra storage whenever I get someone else to register, and they get the extra 250 too! Here's a list of other features (The ones in bold are the reasons why this beats mediafire): direct file access (You could host a website in it), no file size limit, undelete files with 30 days history, initial 2gb storage upgradeable up to 8, picture gallery, mass file upload with resuming (Best I've ever seen), mass download for files you've uploaded, friendly interface, desktop/phone app for managing files if you're not a fan of web interfaces, automatic file syncing with your PC, all that in the free plan, with no catches. You start with a 2gb storage, +250mb if you registered from a referrer, +250 by completing the starters guide, +250 for every person registering by your referral. Here's my referrer link: http://www.dropbox.com/referrals/NTEyNTQwNTI0OQ The only thing missing is a "public folder sharing" feature, but smart users can get around that. In short, if you just want a basic file host, Mediafire wins. For the more enterprising people, DropBox is gold. Edited by omni, Oct 2 2010, 03:38 AM.

Yes, mediafire is the best for basic use. Cool thing though, turns out there IS a way to share folders with DropBox. You need to download a beta version of their app to do it. Check it out, I made a quick repository of DMC 3 files: http://db.tt/LRHioMH I love this thing. |
