Haunted Scottish Castles - Winter/Spring 2012/2013

The purpose of this research, retelling of stories and location visits is to provide a resource for fellow Investigators, Researchers and members of the public who can then conduct their own session, books or personal visits. I have opened up the database to a website format on the main Haunted Scotland site and I will be sharing ALL visits which will include brief history, alleged phenomena, a selection of photographs and a video showing you around the property.

Lets be completely frank here, there is no way that a proper Investigation or conclusion can be made from this project as all visits are open to others too and I have very minimum scope for experimentation or data collecting in an environmental capacity. However, I will have various pieces of equipment to test for high levels of Electro-magnetic energy (Hallucination possibility) and will carry audio recording devices, video capture, temperature fluctuations and can search out natural possibilities while visiting. As said though...no formal conclusion will be made and I wish to provide this as an open visual and information based project which is highly flexible in direction.

The main holder page is: http://haunted-scotland.co.uk/haunted-scottish-castles/

You will not need go to this though as IPI will have this dedicated thread for all the very latest visits and anything interesting that is uncovered. Feel free to comment, constructive criticism or any feedback.

Dunnottar Castle

Dunnottar castle is situation just 2 miles south of Stonehaven and around 15 miles shy of Aberdeen. You can not miss the fantastic looking location as it sits upon an enormous flat-topped rock with sheer cliffs above the wild North Sea.

According to our files here, Donnottar Castle is said to be haunted by a legacy of restless spirits from an event in 1685 when over 160 men, women and children were kept in the dark dungeon, fed on a diet of rotten meat, raw fish & salt water as they huddled together for warmth, their skeletal bodies clothed in rags. It is alleged to be their screams and cries which are said to emanate in the dead of night.

In addition, I quote the fantastic guide-book which can be purchased on site:

The bakery, sometimes frequented by a sad lady in green plaid.

William Wallace, Mary Queen of Scots, the Marquis of Montrose and the future King Charles II, all graced the Castle with their presence. Most famously though, it was at Dunnottar Castle that a small garrison held out against the might of Cromwell’s army for eight months and saved the Scottish Crown Jewels, the ‘Honours of Scotland’, from destruction. Crown, sceptre and sword now take pride of place in Edinburgh Castle.

Please visit the Castle website for more historical information, directions on how to get to this fantastic location and other relevant information: http://www.dunnottarcastle.co.uk

Aberdour Castle

Full Details & Phenomena Here

Snippet of Phenomena: As they stood, they chatted about the usual topics, what was on TV last night etc, as they chatted they hunched their bodies up against the biting cold wind that whistled through the Stable door, suddenly the chat all stopped, “do you hear that?” enquired one of the labourers, they all now stood deathly still, straining to hear whatever it was their friend had heard coming from the great hall up above. They didn’t have to wait long, a loud dragging noise was heard by all present, “somebody’s moving the furniture about up there in the hall” the young apprentice said, they all looked at each other now quite alarmed, had someone somehow managed to get into the castle during the night? And if they had, were they still in there?

The workers stood now pondering what their next move should be, should they ring the police or wait for the custodian to arrive.
