Here it is: This site's third organized and possibly second not-doomed-to-fail organized role play. For those of you who don't already know, here are the details.

The Premise

The entire afterlife is in chaos, and it's up to you to try to sort things out. By the machinations of Amos Redhart, the founder and first Captain of the Knights Arcana (who, even if they show up, won't play any important part in this RP), the Damned have risen up and taken over Hell for themselves. This has forced the Demons into the next two planes of spiritual existence, Purgatory and Heaven. They have already conquered Purgatory, where you will fight the bulk of them. Beyond that, on the heavenly plane, a force beyond even them is struggling with the armies of angels for total control. An angel has come down to the arena, offering to bring back loved ones of whatever warriors are willing to take up this mission of restoration. Your main goal will be to rescue the descendants of Redhart (who are involved with his plan in some manner) and whoever it is your characters are after, but you won't always be able to just fight your way through.

The Rules of Play

If the previous RP was an indication, a style change is required here. I am simply too busy and/or lazy to take control of every enemy, especially in an RP like this where your foes will be innumerable. So I've decided to go with a different method of combat this time, that of the Blades of Retribution RPs on the Escapist. (You may want to take a look at the most recent one if you want examples.) In this RP, you will be writing both your actions and the actions and responses of your enemies.

For this to work, you will be required to use a deeper level of writing than you may be used to. I will not tolerate you doing some single, "awesome" attack that somehow wipes out every enemy in the battle. Try to limit yourselves to one or two enemies brought down per post (more if their numbers are too vast for that to be practical). Have them take a hit every once in a while. Write a story with your post and make it worth reading. This isn't about having the most badass character, it's about showing everyone else how badass you can make them be (sort of). The posts don't have to be that long or complicated. Just please don't post shit.

If this doesn't work out, I'll figure something else out, but please give this style a chance.

The Characters

Pretty much just apply the same rules as you've seen elsewhere about trenchcoating, Mary Sueing and godmoding characters. Post sheets about your characters, of course, including their name, abilities and motivation. (For this, it should be either someone they want brought back to life or someone they want to allow to continue resting in peace. If they have ulterior motives, don't post that. PM me about it and we can work it in somewhere and avoid incident or interruption.) If this is a completely new character we've never seen before, put in some background, description and whatever else you need.

Also, since the balance of use is up to you this time, you may bring more up to two characters into this if you desire. Just make sure to not neglect one and try to develop both.

The Enemies

As alluded to in the Premise section, you will ultimately face three categories of enemies on the three different planes:

Hell - The Damned
Purgatory - The Demons
Heaven - To be revealed

In some cases, you will be outnumbered. In the other cases, you will be outpowered. I'm afraid your mortal characters won't stand much chance based on their own merits in these overwhelming circumstances, so your creativity will have to come into play. Considering where you're fighting, I'm sure you'll find some ways to use the environment to your advantage. I will always post information about the enemies (attacks, patterns, strength, etc.) for you to write with.

The Bosses

While I have bosses of my own planned, I'm more than willing to let other people have their own to pit against the main players. They can be a character you used to have that died, someone alluded to previously by other characters (also dead) or just something you like that you came up with. PM me with the information and which area you want them to fight in and we'll see what we can work out.

Unlike enemies, bosses will be done in the old-fashioned way. I'll post some information about them and do their actions, you respond and fight back. If you see that two or maybe three other posters have already attacked the boss after one of my posts, please, for my own convenience, wait for me to do my next action so I don't have to work in a ton of defensive manuveurs all at once. Especially for bosses, the environment may be the way to go.

The Setting

You already know you will be fighting in Hell, Purgatory and Heaven. However, this time it will be, with some translational error, in the Divine Comedy's incarnation of Hell (so not as much hellfire as freakish monsters and dreary rock). I don't expect you to have read all 100 cantoes, though. To the best of my ability, I will be posting detailed descriptions of the areas you will be fighting in and travelling through, so you don't have to worry about making stuff up.

That should just about cover it for now. Show me your characters and it shouldn't take too long before we start. If you have any questions, you may as well ask in this topic so that I don't have to answer it again from someone else in PM. Same goes for complaints.

Alright, I've got two characters that I'm going to use. So I'll just make comprehensive characters sheets in short bursts in order to avoid insanity.

Character 1: Julian
Character 2: Luna

like I said, sheets shall come

Please reread "The Characters", Toughie. I may up it to three if I can't get many people interested (I already may have to contact former posters that are still active on the Escapist).

Hmm... Which characters to use...

I'll get back to this after work, but I might have a character or two that could be good bosses.

Alright, sheet time

Character 1
Name: Julian Arrowind
Combat style: A mysterious aura that has recently grown to cover his entire body, as well as a pair of soul calibur looking blades
motivation: To calm down the afterlife and bring his girlfriend back to life

character 2
Name: Luna Arbonne
Combat style: (Dollmaster) she transforms her body using small wooden idols, she trades places with the souls in the dolls in order to become several different types of creatures. She also has multiple clones that she can summon and transform at will
Motivation: To stop the afterlife from spiraling out of control, and to rescue the descendant of Amos Redhart

...

Most of the people in the RP know these two people rather well, so I'm not seeing the need to go into too much detail, feel free to tell me if I need to fix that

Kuroda isn't Redhart's son. They're about seven or eight hundred years apart.

No need to put down a new post just to say that I fixed it... I fixed it
-Mod

What, should I have PM'd you? Then people who read it wouldn't know it was incorrect and I'd have to cancel the entire RP.
-This Guy

It just didn't seem like that much of a deal, and besides, I fixed it after you corrected me, no harm no foul
-Mod

I know, I was just joking.
-This Guy

I was actually about to question why the generation gap between Kuroda and Amos was vital enough to warrant shutting down the entire RP. It makes a lot more sense now that I know it's a joke

Alright, people, we have a issue we need to discuss. Toughie has made me aware that he'll be leaving July 7 for a 3.5 month training regimen with the USAF. The issue is that Toughie's characters already more or less need to be around for some of the crucial characters involved with the plot. I may also need a certain one of his characters around for one of the final big hurdles right before the final boss guy.

One of the reasons I cancelled the last RP was due to character favoritism in storyline, so I don't want that to happen again. The way I see it, we have a few options to resolve this (none very good):

-Postpone the RP until he gets back.
-Try to get through the Inferno portion, then wait.
-Say "screw him" and have me rewrite the plot so we don't need him around.
-Have someone else write for his characters while he's gone.
-Overthrow the United States government through a series of crippling economic reforms.

These are the ones I thought of. So, what do you guys suggest/pick?

The favored option seems to be doing Inferno and then just waiting, which is more likable now that I know it would help Baldrek as well (if he ever gets his characters done). Will those of you not serving your countries this summer still be interested then?

Character 1:
Name: Dr. Jonathan "Stitches" McCoy
Time Period: Mid Victorian era (ca. 1860-80)
Weapons: Rapier, revolver, explosives and a hidden coarse caliber revolver (leg).
Description: A British gentleman dressed in a russet suit with a dark red waistcoat and a russet bowler, there is a golden chain hanging from one pocket to the next on his waistcoat, probably a watch. He has an impressive handlebar moustache, short brown hair and blue eyes, he seems about 6'2" feet tall.
He's carrying a black leather bag in one hand, a rapier with a German-style wire hilt hangs on his left side and a British manufactured Webley revolver is tucked in his belt.
His right leg is quite odd, it's covered by his pants, but it seems to emit a strange "pshhh…" sound every time it hits the ground
Backstory: When McCoy was younger he studied medicine at a renowned university in Liverpool, to pay for his tuition he worked as a locomotive engineer on the Liverpool-Manchester line, this is where he picked up his knack for mechanics.
After graduating from the university, he travelled to the frontier-towns of the U.S. of A. helping the people in need and assisting with various problems.
It was here in the states that he learned the proper use of explosives, as he was often called to help with construction, seeing as he was often the closest one with any formal education.
It was also in the states that he lost his right leg in an explosion that went awry, he lived with a peg leg for a long time, but later constructed a steam powered prosthetic with an integrated revolver in the knee.
After returning to Britain and purchasing a workshop, he began working on his biggest project yet, a steam powered airborne ironclad.
The project was eventually finished and his pride and glory, the Revenant, was ready for it's first adventure.
He travelled to various places around the world, and after getting hit by a ferocious storm on his way over the Atlantic, he and his crew suddenly found themselves near the True Battle Arena.
After his last adventure McCoy got sent back to his own time. Here he rebuilt the Revenant and used much of his time to discover new machines and travel the globe.
But he and his contraptions seems to have garnered to much attention, and after a travelling through a storm over the pacific he yet again found himself in foreign lands.
Motivation: McCoy is motivated by new knowledge, damsels in distress and an unhealthy interest in how machines of higher technology work. He's helping the other characters because there are people, or souls, in need.

Character 2:
Name: Sir Jonas Haakonson
Gender: Male
Age: 37
Description: 6'3" tall, muscular build, has short brown hair and a walrus moustache.
Wears chain mail armour with a white tabard with the black cross, has a silver cross hanging around his neck, a longsword strapped to his right side (He's left-handed) and a shield strapped to his back.
Background: He was born and raised in a small rural village in western Norway, he showed exceptional talent for swordsmanship early in his life, and joined the militia as soon as he turned 16.
At the age of 18 he joined a travelling hanse as a bodyguard and travelled from all over from England to Novgorod.
After witnessing a raid on a small settlement on the border of Lithuania, where his employer lost his life, he became a pious man, with a newfound sense of justice.
He joined the Teutonic order at the age of 21, and served well in various campaigns.
After being given the title of count he left the order and is currently travelling abroad striking swiftly against injustice and tyranny in all it's forms.
Died fighting for the masses against the dreaded creatures of the night, vampires, and is now trying to protect the souls of the people who were turned into the monstrosities.

I'm not much of a fan of option three, just to be honest. In any case, I really like that the favored article is doing 'the inferno' and then shutting it down until I return.

Okay, you guys are really making this difficult for me. I was hoping all of your characters would be doing this to revive or protect someone they know who died, thus facilitating a plot point for later on.

Two questions:

1. Does anyone know of anyone else who would like to take part in this?
2. Does anyone want to change their characters or add a second?

If not, we can get this started this weekend when I actually have time to get on the computer.

I thought of a way around the motivation issue, so don't worry about that. As for Jonas, his being dead actually makes it a bit easier. Are you talking about where to introduce Jonas in the story since he won't be in the arena?

It was a beautiful day in the arena, like it always was, when the wind stilled. The few wispy, white clouds that blemished the sky moved ever so slowly to form a circle as the divine entity made his way. Landing with the sound of a leaf hitting a green cushion of grass, it called the ones willing to fight things much higher than themselves to it.
