Armor and Weapons: Sora's primary weapon is her Hero's Bow. It's a standard Hero's Bow, made from the enchanted Deku Tree wood. Sora has adjusted the thread slightly to suit herself, so the bow is slightly longer to help her use it better when in flight. Her markmanship with the bow is particularly good, but her accuracy goes down severly when she's flying. The attendant to the Great Dragon Valoo gave the bow to Sora, as a reward for displaying her courage on a particular instance.

She also wields two short swords for close combat. The blades are about 18" (38 cm) long, and the hilts are about 12" long (30 cm). They are short-ranged, but are also very deadly. They aren't a particularly good defense though, and would only really be able to block other short swords and maybe some lances; so Sora relies on her deftness and ability to effectively dodge oncoming attacks. Her father brought them back, during a mail delivery to the Deku Palace- after accidentally stumbling into the Gopanga Marsh, and retrieving the daggers from a pair of dead Lizalfos.

Techniques/Spells/Alchemies: Training Equipment- Starting with Hero's Bow

Appearance:

Physical Apperance: Sora resembles the typical Rito tribe girl. She has tanned skin, dark from the intense sunlight on Dragon Roost Island. She has saucer-like, vivid, blue eyes, with her thin everybrows almost unnoticeable next to them. Her beak protrudes outwards, perhaps slightly more than she'd like it to! It stretches down from above her eyebrows all the way down to her mouth. She has small, sharp ears, similar to a Hylian's. Sora has a lush mettle of flowing, brown hair flows down her face covering most of her ears, flows down the back of her head, where it is usually tied into a ponytail.

She has a very small build, making her seem younger than she actually is. She has thin, slender arms with slight and nimble fingers. Feathers have begun to develop on her shoulders, forming a feeble pair of wings, enough to enable her to glide. Her wings will grow to allow her fly around the island with time, but only pursuing the blessing of the Great Lord of the Skies- Valoo- will strengthen her wings so she can fly between islands.

Clothes: Sora usually likes to wear a plain, light red shirt, which flows all the way down to her knees. She also dons a thin, navy blue, hooded cape, which is tied around her collar by an elegant, silk scarf. This conceals her leather belt, which she uses to stow her daggers at either side of her hips (and which she will use to store her throwing knives). This gives her the element o

Personality:

Despite looking like a perfectly normal Rito girl, Sora has a hugely different personality to typical girls of her age. She holds a very non-comformist attitude. Most of the Rito girls' lives revolve around Rito boys. Sora despises this outlook.

As a result, Sora is a very lonesome, reclusive girl. She has a few friends, with outcast girls of around her age. But she prefers to keep to herself anyway. Her closest friend is in fact her 9-year old sister, but lately her sister has been spending less time with Sora and more time with her other friends. Sora's loneliness is a source of grief for her parents, and she is often annoyed by the "wrongly-construed" idea they have that she's unhappy. In truth, Sora would love to have more friends, but has resigned herself to this path of life.

Sora tends to be quite cold and bitter, and hates opening herself up. She is usually very timid and shy, and avoids conversation with most of the other Ritos. Interacting with other people often makes her quite uncomfortable. She's not good with meeting new people, but her inquisitive nature means she enjoys meeting people from other races. There aren't commonly visitors to Dragon Roost Island though, but some travellers do come to challenge the ascent to Valoo's nest through Dragon Roost Cavern.

Sora is usually "up-in-the-clouds", with her mind always being somewhere else. She often daydreams, conveying herself as some proud heroine, rather than a down-to-earth outcast. Despite this, she's fairly creative and inventive. Actually, she's considerably intelligent fora Rito, but her lack of focus always make her seem less intelligent than she is. Although Sora likes to think she's some incredibly brave individual, it is in fact her brashness and foolhardeness that she mistakes for courage, as she often dives headfirst into things without considering the risks or consequences.

Back Story:

Sora Nefelli was born on Dragon Roost Island eleven summers and eleven moons ago, under the watchful presence of the great Valoo, perched atop Dragon Roost Peak. She was born into a well-off family: her father being a senior Rito postmen. She has spent her whole life on Dragon Roost Island, and has never left the island so far.

Sora's World: Sora was born into an unusually hierarchical Rito society. The whole workings of the tribe are governed by a "ladder system". Each family has a position on the ladder, and they are expected to defer to families higher up on the ladder than them. Families higher up on the ladder are expected to keep those below them in their place. Since most Rito mothers don't work (too busy looking after the fledglings), the family's position on the ladder would be dependant on the job of the father.

It was never complicated to know who was higher up than you. Most Ritos would know from intuition, but the Interior of Dragon Roost Island was designed to display the ladder system perfectly. A huge stone, spiralling, slope runs up around the curved walls of the interior. The higher up your chambers are (so the closer your room is to the great Valoo) the higher up on the social ladder you'd be. The rooms were also organised into five different levels (or tiers). On each separate level, there would be a gentle gradient in the slope. There would then be a ladder leading up to the next level, and so on. Rooms on lower tiers would be fairly plain and shabby; while the rooms on the upper levels would be grand and luxurious.

Since Ritos don't have a huge variety of skills, the jobs they can undertake are known as the Rito "specialities". Your speciality would define your status and place on the ladder hierarchy, as certain specialities were favoured more than others:

The most prestigious speciality is Wind God Worship- serving as a Priest at the Wind Shrine to Zephos (formerly both Zephos and Cyclos). They pray for favourable winds, using heading west (as Dragon Roost Island is in the east) to allow their postmen to fly quicker. They are also the keepers of knowledge.
The second, and by far the most common, most prestigious speciality is of course Mail Delivery- as Ritos serve as mailmen for the world. But due to the sheer quantity of Rito postmen, the Mail Delivery speciality has an ancillary ladder hierarchy attached to it. At the bottom are the Junior Postmen- who deliver letters between islands in the Great Sea (usually just to Windfall Island). Next are the Post Office Managers, who stay on Dragon Roost Island and supervise the transit of letters from sender to destination. And at the top level (just under the Chief of Mail Delivery himself) are the Senior Postmen, who deliver letters over incredible distances, even between realms. Sora's father is a senior postmen.
Next are the Cartographers- the map-makers- who fly all over the Great Sea making charts. These charts are usually kept for reference by the Wind Priests, or sold. They need to be updated regularly due to the changing sea levels.
Below that- a speciality which every race has- Brewing. These Ritos spend all day collecting spoils from around the island, and brewing them into potions. They are still valued though, as they can brew special potions which prolong flight weariness. Wingless Ritos (Ritos that failed their coming-of-age test and failed to receive a scale from Valoo) are usually thrust into this position, as they cannot become a Wind Priest, a Mailman or a Cartographer.
At the very bottom are the Bomb Planters, who cultivate the bomb plants that grow all over the island. These are needed to get rid of the rocks that fall from Dragon Roost Peak onto the island through landslides. However, they are not really valued too much, and Bomb Fruits grow naturally on the island anyway. It is usually wingless Ritos, again, that are stuck with this disfavourable role.

So, the rooms in the Interior are allocated according to speciality and position within your speciality. There five levels in the Interior are arranged accordingly:
The plain, shabby rooms on the bottom level are forced upon the Bomb Planters and the Junior Postmen.
The small, but fairly cosy, rooms on the second level are left for the Post Office Mangers and the Brewers.
The medium-sized, highly comfortable rooms on the third level are intended for the Wind Priests of Zephos, the Cartographers and the Senior Postmen (so Sora's family has a room on this floor).
The grand, executive chambers on the fourth and second highest level are reserved for the Chiefs of each Rito speciality. So even a Bomb Planter (but only the best Bomb Planter) could secure a highly-coveted room on the fourth level.
The top level chambers are off-limits to those without permission. They are extremely luxurious, and most Ritos dream of what it would be like to have a room on the glorious fifth level. Only the Attendant to the great Valoo and the tribe chieftain and his family are allowed to inhabit these rooms.

Sora's Life: From an early age, it was apparent that Sora didn't agree with the intricate and rather complicated workings of the Rito social hierarchy. It became apparent she would much rather play with some Bomb Planters' fledglings rather than with other third-tier fledglings. Her mum found this quite odd, and tried her best to encourage her to play with children of her status. Their attempts didn't work, and eventually they just left her to go mingle with whichever fledglings she wanted to. After all, they were very young, and completely ignorant to the social workings of the Rito tribe.

Her dad, of course, spent most of his time away, and would occasionally return to Dragon Roost Island. Sora doted on her dad, and was ecstatic every time he returned to the island. But unfortunately, this was seldom for very long. He would usually fly her around the island, or let her play with some of the less harmful things he found or bought on his delivery routes.

When she was two, though, Sora was pleased to know that her mum was giving birth again. Sora was ecstatic. She loved the idea of having a little sister for company. Her little sister was eventually named Mia.

But as time passed, Sora grew more and more lonely. When she was still very young, until about the age of three, her will to play with fledglings with a lower status than her was accepted. But the tier system became a bigger part of their lives. Soon, her mum had to ban her from playing with the lower-tier fledglings. Sora took a particular distaste to this, and decided to ignore her mum's orders. But she started to notice that the lower-tier fledglings were becoming less acceptant of her. They didn't bully her or anything (they wouldn't even dare) but they became increasingly more reserved around her.

Even worse, when Sora was about four and a half years old, her dad told the family that he was in which a chance for a promotion to Chief of Mail Delivery. This would allow them to ascend a fair bit up the ladder and gain a much larger income; and would ensure them some lovely chambers on the fourth floor. This required him to work the longest overtime. Sora was quite distraught about this, and barely saw her dad at all from thereon.

Sora focused all her attention on her little sister, Mia. She loved her sister to bits. And besides, she just didn't fit into any friend groups. The whole world had moved past her. Everyone was growing older, and nastier. She was only allowed to mingle with the Rito girls in her tier, and they all made fun of her and bullied her. Sora hated the system entirely, so just stuck by her little sister.

But once again, this niche in her life slowly faded. Her sister started to spend increasingly more time with her own friends, and sometimes ended up forgetting all about poor big sister Sora. Sora resigned herself more and more to exploring around the island's Exterior on her own, avoiding the other fledglings. She grew miserable, sad with the thoughts that she had no real friends.

Her mum noted this growing sadness. But there was nothing she could do to help it. She would often wonder what she could have done different, but the simple fact was that Sora was disagreeing with the hierarchy's intricate workings, and now paying the price for it.

When Sora was about seven, though, her mum decided to attempt something. She took Sora to see the Attendant to the great Valoo. The Attendant was more than willing to see Sora. She was quite lonely herself anyway. Attendants were not allowed to get married and have children. At first, Sora wasn't keen to meet this mysterious woman at the second top rung of the ladder.

But when she actually met the Attendant, she was pleasantly surprised. The Attendant, in fact, had lived a rather eventful life as a young girl. She enthralled Sora with epic stories of the Island, when a young boy wearing the strangest green clothes came to visit 50 summers ago, when she was only thirteen summers old herself.

Eventually, Sora decided to fill the hole in her life with regular visits to the Attendant. Although her mother taught her the skills needed for each Rito speciality, the Attendant taught them even better. She knew all these little secrets. And she had the most thrilling tales to tell too. Her mum was pleased with this result. She would have preferred that Sora spend that volume of time with her too, but she couldn't offer half of what the Attendant could for Sora and her education.

Life continued calmly like this for a while. Sora filled her free time with exploring the island and paying visits to the Attendant. She would eagerly anticipate her father's returns to the island. She loved listening to his tales and looking at the various items he'd brought back. She didn't mind too much about not having any friends really. It sometimes ate at her in her moments of weakness, but she made sure she didn't dwell on it.

Eventually, the time came where the Attendant had to choose her attendant-in-training. Sora was in the perfect age range to be chosen: nine and a half summers old. The test to become the Attendant was split into three parts: the first consisted off a test in Valoo's tongue (Old Hylian); the second a test in the history of the island; and the third a test in gliding (this would reflect on their proficiency at flying when they received their scale). Sora was one of the best fliers for her age, having practiced so regularly in the Exterior of the Island. She also knew most of the island's history from the Attendant's tales. But the first test would prove problematic. Also, for the candidate to be chosen, the Rito Chiefs and the Chieftain needed to be confident that the candidate would not fail their coming-of-age test in Dragon Roost Cavern, and fail to receive a scale.

Sora worked hard, as did a lot of the other fledglings between eight and eleven summers old. It was an extreme privilege to become the attendant-in-training. But for Sora, it become her life's goal. To become the Attendant would be perfect. She would serve the Lord of the Skies himself! She wouldn't be allowed to have a family, but Sora wasn't too keen to have a family anyway. Her free time became filled with brushing up on each of these. She struggled with learning Old Hylian greatly. It proved to be too much for her mental capacity. The Attendant said she wasn't allowed to help Sora at all, so Sora wasn't allowed to see the Attendant at all.

Eventually, the time came for her to sit the test, exactly one year later. She was ten summers and seven moons old. Sora had struggled with learning Old Hylian, but she was determined. But this wasn't enough. She struggled so much with the first test, and wasn't particularly confident. The second test was surprisingly hard, though. She hadn't learnt quite enough of the island's history. She had been too focused on polishing her Old Hylian. The third test, though, she aced. No one had expected her to be quite that good, and she had a smug look on her face when she convincingly beat all the other fledglings. But was it enough to make up for the other two tests?

The result arrived a month later. Swift and thunderous, the result was a quick and harsh, "No". Sora was absolutely devastated by this result. The fledgling that got the role as attendant-in-training, was Celia- the daughter of the Chief of Cartography. Sora's soul was shattered by this. She couldn't believe that anyone wanted- that anyone deserved that role- more than here.

She fell back into her old routine for a bit, and meanwhile planned what she intended to do. She decided that the only place she would have fitted into this society would be as the Attendant. Within half a year, she was celebrating her eleventh birthday. The Ritos must venture into Dragon Roost Cavern to obtain a scale from the Lord of the Skies, Valoo on their twelfth birthday. She had a new goal. She had to prepare for her coming-of-age rite. She knew what she would do. She would conquer Dragon Roost Cavern, obtain Valoo's blessing, and then fly away from the island, leaving it behind...
