There are several races of sentient living beings that inhabit Hydria. This page will describe those races. Humans: The most numerable of all the races, you will find humans in just about any settlement. They are also the most frail of the races, but ingenuity and adaptiveness have allowed them to keep up with the more powerful races, such as the Drakens and the Burmecians. Of the four main races, they are also the most advanced in technology. Though humans can show up anywhere on the map, they mainly reside in the countries of Altros and both parts of Duska. Because humans are so adaptable, they can take on many environments and jobs. Trade is known to be one of the main services humans take up as a lifestyle, harboring goods to trade with other countries and among themselves. However, humans are also known to be the most troublesome of all the races, as seen with the Duskans. Among the humans, their strongest fighting force lies among the Imperial Duskan Army (IDA), which have begun to equip their units with state-of-the-art synthetic armor and high-energy weaponry, making them a powerful fighting force. Amongst the strongest of the IDA is the Order of the Arbiters: An elite squad consisting of only seven members. The Arbiters are immensely powerful and have no need for technological advancements to enhance their performance, relying solely on their knowledge of magic and close-range combat. The Arbiters are known world-wide, and are feared by every race. It has been told that the Arbiters could annihilate entire cities by their power alone, however, the Order has yet to see much action since the War. Burmecians: The Burmecians are a type of anthro-rat race. However, they a far more easier on the eyes than you might think upon hearing who they are. They are a wise race and are fluent in the ways of magic. They prefer peace over war, but the Burmecians are still not a race to provoke a fight with; they have strong ties with the Drakens, who will come to the aid the the Burmecians at the drop of a feather. Those who do choose to become warriors fight with a style similar to the Draken Dragoons, using lances and spears in close range combat while having fluent knowledge in magic as well. They are second to none in the ways of stealth and speed on the ground, able to fit in almost any place and traverse over many kind of terrain quietly. They are a race that deals fairly with all other races, having no personal grudge against anyone, perhaps with the exception of the Duskans. Drakens: The dragon race. Ancient and powerful, the Drakens are a race you do not wish to anger. They are large and also anthropomorhpic, that is, having a similar body structure to humans. They have two legs and two arms, though the arms can also function as legs. Their bodies are covered in armor-grade scales, differing mainly between shades of green, blue, black and white. Their tails and wings are fully functional, and are used for many purposes. Drakens have the longest life span of all the species, the Burmecians behind them, then the Watarara, and finally the Humans. Drakens are known for their superiority in strength, having a magnificent army though they are outnumbered by humans. Their soldiers, called Dragoons, are trained for both ground and aerial combat, taking the advantage of their flight abilities. They are also fluent with magic, being an ancient race that has been around since the discovery of magic. Overall, they are the elite among fighting forces in all areas, minus the stealth missions, as their large size prevents them from being quiet. Their only combatant that could prove to be dangerous is the IDA of Duska, especially the Arbiters. A weakness of the Drakens is their lack of faith in technology. They do not use many forms of technology, preferring their ancient lifestyles of doing their work by hand. The Drakens are generally not fond of the humans, mainly because of the Duskans. Otherwise, they get along relatively well with the Watarara, and very well with the Burmecians. If you can get on the good side of the Drakens, you will be doing well for your life, unless you get on their bad side. They are also a religious race, mainly worshiping the King of all Dragons: Bahamut, which is where they got the name of their capital city: Baham. Also, feral Drakens do exist on Hydria, simply called dragons. Most feral dragons are of the wyrm variety, though you can find a handful of sentient Wyrms. These wyrms and other feral dragons are far larger in size than their Draken counterparts, and are feared greatly. Often, a test of strength is given to warriors of Drakens, Burmecians, and sometimes Humans in which the test is to defeat one of these dragons. Watarara: A bird-like race. The Watarara are a migrating race, often making their temporary homes in the mountainous areas and living their for several years before moving once again. They are the wisest of all the race, though not necessarily the oldest. They are not a race of war. They do not have an army, and the soldiers they have are not trained for war. They rely on the treaties between the other races, and have not had to worry about action, besides the growing faction that is the IDA. Yet, their movements from range to range is often quiet, and they hide their settlements well and have the benefits of flight and the heights and hazardous terrain of the mountains to protect them. However, they have nothing to fear from the races. Their knowledge is priceless, and not even the worst wish to have ill-will fall upon the Watarara. Many scholars and teachers in other countries are Watarara, proving their superior intellect. -Sub-Races- The Forsaken: The Forsaken is a title given to those who once belonged to a major race, but for some reason were banished by their own kind, and in the same sense, forsaken. The main reason the Forsaken are thrown aside is mutation or sickness. Other reasons for banishment are punishments for crimes or a title some take upon themselves should they go into hiding. The Forsaken have small settlements all over the planet, none of which are really connected other than they are a place for outcasts. Some settlements are nice, others tolerable, and some settlements you must evade at all costs. The location of the settlement is usually the deciding factor between hospitable and hostile. Hybrids: As titled, Hybrids are not fully one race, but consist of a mixture of race DNA, though one set of DNA is usually more dominant than the other. Hybrids are not too uncommon on Hydria, as all the races share somewhat similar genetic traits, such as body structure. Often a Hybrid will have some traits from both sides of their parents: Some humans have wings; some Burmecians have the eyes of a Draken, and other trait mixtures can be found. Hybrids are usually accepted by all races, save for the Drakens should they have any human in them. Other smaller races exist, but due to their rarity, they are not among the main listed races. Some of these races may exhibit more animal characteristic, such as wolves or cats and the such. Edited by The King, Nov 8 2009, 12:27 AM.
