I was out in the tree stand again this morning bright and early and it was just a little cool to say the least.Just before 8 I noticed what at first I thought was the neighbours collie running across the field. It had white socks and the white collie ring around its neck. When I looked at him through the glasses I realized it was a big male yote! If I was out with the rifle he would have been in big trouble as he passed by me at a ranged 129 yards stopping several times. He never came quite close enough for the crossbow though and I watched him head into the deer bedding cover I was sitting beside.I no sooner turned around and another one popped up in the same spot and came across the field in the first ones foot steps. No deer spotted this morning but they have been there like crazy this week! Hopefully next time I see those yotes they either come a little closer or I have my .243 in my lap instead of the bow! I seen another coyote this morning also.Around 8 he was cutting across the corn stubble field at about 100 yards.I pulled out the predator call and wailed on it hoping it would pull him into bowrange but he just stopped and looked in my direction everytime and seemed to want no part of it.It probably had something to do with the deer decoy in the field I bet.Like you Goosesmasher if I would have had the 223 instead it would have been 1 dead coyote. |

I shot one at 33 yards this morning as he was hard charging my rabbit decoy. He didn't even slow down as he went past it (he knew he was in trouble) I shot and he jumped and spun. Tracked him for 2.5 hours and he only stopped once and let about 10 drops of blood out. He was big too, I called for 45 minutes and was just going to get up and leave and let out one more series and out he came on the full run from up wind. Not to often that happens. |

Yeah,,,,,Its burned into my memory!! LOL no sorry Newham, I couldn't find him. I made a bad shot as he was turning around to leave the way he came. Must of grazed him because he didn't bleed a drop the entire 200 yards he ran across the field, found two spots where he stopped in the bush. He was walking most of the time, I let him go for 30 min before I started tracking. Even went back out this afternoon and looked again, no luck. Going to make another stand across the road tonight, two sets of tracks going into their since this morning. |
