I got out for a quick hunt this afternoon after work and what a hunt it was! I was in my tree stand and set up at 3:07 .I had barely settled in when this nice buck came walking along right in front of me.When he got to 17 yards and he was in my shooting lane I sent the broadhead his way and it hit him perfectly quartering away through both lungs! He wobbled his way out into the field and I saw him drop. The time was 3:20 when I looked at my watch after he was already down. The bolt was stuck into the ground up to the fletching even after passing through the buck.I saw this buck back in september and he was a nice wide 8,a solid three year old.Today he was a post rut battle weary warrior with two broken brow tines and a broken main beam.Lots of guys would have passed this guy but he looked fine to me and I think he has a ton of character!

WOW.............talk about busted up.
A true warrior of a deer.
I agree..............job well done!!

I never worry about head gear either.
I harvest what presents itself.
In the end it's about sharing good food with family and friends.

Great Buck Ben, if he broke that main beam on the block you hunt, one we might be able to find it in the spring but two there has to be quite the buck walking around out there still. cheers11

People hunt for all sorts of reasons and a trophy is in the eye of the beholder. Some guys want to shoot the biggest buck in the county and others are happy to put some venison in the freezer. Some even have a game plan that they stick to for the season. For me ,I wanted a buck of at least three years of age and rack score was not important. This was my first year bow hunting in seven years and I have had a great year with two bucks that were 3+ years old.I've passed many.I have worked my butt off to do it too.I think a mature doe is also a trophy as is any game taken with an arrow.

I don't think its right to put someone else down for shooting an animal you would choose to pass.Perhaps the other hunter isn't as accomplished as you maybe they don't have many places to hunt or can only get out a few times a year.I say if the animal was taken legally and the hunter is happy with it good job!It doesn't matter whether its a doe fawn, forky ,a big doe or a 195" buck.Good job to the hunter.

In my opinion our deer numbers are down in my area and this buck was very thin due to the rut.He may not have made it through the winter to become a dandy next year.Coyotes kill a lot of fawns but they also kill a lot of rut weary mature bucks in the winter too.In my opinion I did the rest of the herd a favour by taking him because I believe he was the most expendable part of the herd. I have found enough dead bucks to know this is true in the winter.

I was dedicated to shooting a 3 1/2 year old or older buck this season and a minimum B&C score was not my main priority.I certainly won't knock someone who is looking for a super buck,I hope they get one but I won't put down another hunter or his prized game for shooting an animal that I may not have. I personally take your comments as a knock against the companies you"pro staff" for and I'm sure that others do too.So for you I guess I'm sorry that I shot such a crappy deer.I think your right, just another crappy old busted up rack,no character at all, what a waste of a tag!

I've seen plenty of fantastic deer shot by members of this forum and others this year and to all of those hunters I say congrats on a job well done!

Sorry if I affened you. Congrats. We all have different ways of looking deer management .From looking at the pics I would say he looks like he is still in pretty good shape,he can still breed, compared to letting some smaller deer do the job that will not amount to nothing. When we start getting pics of deer on our property each year we pick out the deer that are garbage bucks and put them on a list of deer to take out givin the oppertunity. This has worked for the last 5 years and right now we only have 2 deer that I know of that are bad and I hope to take care of a 5 pointer this week, there are aleast 6 up and coming bucks that are going to be shooters in the next couple of years. My brother passed on one of them last night..If the 140ish 8 point that I have been trying to shoot year this steps out with a missing or has broken beam in the next 2 weeks I still would let him walk and hope to see him next year.My buddy has let the same 9 point walk 3 time knowing there is a bigger deer in the area and that the 9 will even better next year. This property has very little hunting pressure ,good bedding and lots of food and all the extras we provide for them.
