Got to admit maybe I've become too focused as a trail cam hunter. Over the past approx 2 months I've had over a hundred pictures on my cameras, of various deer but in particular there are 4 bucks, 1 is in the 140's, 2 are in the 150-160's and the fourth may closer to 160-170's. Going after these bucks has been frustrating, I've rattled in a number of smaller 6 and 8 pt bucks some bucks within 10 yds of my stand, but I've passed on them all waiting for one of the big 4. This morning despite the heavy winds I went out, and about 7:30 I saw a nice 8 pt buck in the field about 120 yds from me (my stand is about 70 yds into the woods), rattling and calling I couldn't get him to come onto the trail leading to my stand, then another smaller buck 6 pt joined him and the 2 walked back and forth in the field for about 15 min. but wouldn't come into the woods. What was surprising is that the wind was in my favour and the field was ploughed over. A few minutes later they walked out of sight and then a doe accompanied with the big bruiser showed up. They too circled in the ploughed field and then headed away, not sure where they went but it certainly wasn't by my stand, but it sure was great seeing him. Later in the morn I decided to check my camera at the opposite end of the woods where I have another stand. As I got to the other stand I jumped a doe with the 140 class buck, ouch. Had I been in this stand it would have been lights out as the buck was within 30 yds of my stand. Anyway not a bad morning saw 2 of the big boys, a total of 5 bucks and 3 does, 1 fawn. What was even more surprising the one doe was with its fawn bedded down. Not sure why it hasn't come into heat yet. Given all this action in the morning I was pretty pumped to get out this afternoon, but as many of you can already guess. There wasn't a deer anywhere to be seen, what a difference 8 hours makes. My best luck with the big guys has always been the end of November and early December, so hopefully that trend will continue. |

I must admit I'm the same way ,I always tell the wife I'm not going to get picky and I'm just gonna get the job done and be over with it ,but as soon as I see the quality of bucks my spot has to offer ,the games begin ,but it gets even worse when I actually see the deer in erson or up close ,thats when i get focused totally on 1 deer ,thats also when I end up hunting the whole season right down to the wire and most likely eating tag soup ,I'll pass on lessor bucks and have close mistakes,,for whatever reason I' am unable to break myself of this habbit ,I need help ,my god is there a phsyciatrist out there to help me ... |

Sounds great guys and keep this in mind. You ARE having fun and excitement. You are also building on your memory bank. I personally believe in having fun firstly and hopefully put some meat in the freezer along the way. |
