Well seeing as I had a doctor’s appointment at 10:15am I decided to spend the morning in the bush! Funny how the appointment was scheduled just perfect for that LOL. Well I get out there Friday am and it was extremely foggy, wet and dead calm. I was setup in the bush about 70 yards and was ready to go. Finally heard some gobbles WAY off in the distance around 6 and nothing else. I had mallards quacking in the swamp behind me. Geese on the land owners ponds, crows firing off and even a pair of owls got into the action. Everything but Tom's. I know this property holds birds and decided to move on the Tom I heard on the other side of the property. I got half way to him when I hear 2 toms fire off behind me! The fog by this point was really thick and was making it hard to pin point the birds. I slowly walked back to where I thought they would be. As luck has it I was wrong! They were about 75 yards ahead of me in a dip in the field. I sneak back into the bush setup and start calling. These birds love this field and the land owner is a HUGE anti hunter so working them back into the bush is always a challenge. I would let off a few purrs and clucks and they would cut me off but wouldn't budge. I kept quite for about 20min and sure enough here they come down the bush line to an opening in wire fence on the opposite side. I hate when birds double back on you. There is 3-4 openings along this fence and I was in the middle. They decided to enter at the furthest one at about 40 yards. 3 toms and a few hens. I was setup on a massive oak tree. I shouldered the gun and slowly snuck around the tree to see a bunch of alert turkey's staring at me! First bearded bird my reddot saw and BOOM! Tom down. 19lbs 6oz, 10 1/4" beard, 1: spurs! Another fine season behind me!
