This past Saturday Well the old boy and I had a tough week so far but we were seeking revenge today and this time we had the wife and Brayden along, our main goal of the day was to try and get Brady his first bird. I tried to talk mom into using my stomper but there was no way she wanted to shoot it and said she was more than happy to be along and hope to watch her son take his first bird, she had to work a rare Saturday and only had a couple of hours before she had to leave. The three of us sat together with the old boy down about 80yds. The birds had roosted totally different and we had birds within 50yds of us :o :o, the gobbling started at 5:30. After trading tree yelps back with another hen for a few minutes we had the gobblers going crazy so I let off and just waited. They started to pitch down and a big gobbler came our way, he was not on the ground for 5 minutes when I gave the command for Brayden to drop the hammer on him at 20yds. He had his first bird down on his first turkey hunt (with a gun in his hands), what a thrill to watch your boy become the hunter you always dreamed he could and hope he would be. We kept hunkered down and I kept right on the call as we still had birds coming our way, they held up at 80yds and then the hens proceeded to take them the other way. I showed Mom and Brady how to tag the bird, cased up the 20, gave mom a pat on the bum & a kiss and sent her off to work while the three of us hashed out a plan to go after the other birds. We circled around and got in front of them I hoped, it was confirmed on my second series of yelps that we had as the gobbles were still in about the middle of the bush. My next set of yelps had them gobbling again and they were coming our way. Within minutes we had 4 jakes in front of us but I assured dad to hold out a bit more as I could here the Tom's coming. A couple of hens appeared and they had two big boy's in tow. I told Dad as soon as they clear the brush to let em have it and I would try to get a poke at the second one before he got out of dodge. At 20yds Dad made quick work of the first guy and to my surprise the second Tom kept coming, BOOM!!!!! The three generations of slayers had completed what I would consider a once in a lifetime hunt!!! Three Toms down in the same bush by 8:17!!!!!! I text Mom and told her the news but she though for sure I was pulling her leg, I was not and here are the pictures to prove it!! One proud little hunter!!! ![]() Three generations of very happy slayers!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() Now to get Mom one tomorrow up at one of my Sunday hunting spots!!! |

I wish my first year hunting was as good as his but he earned all that success too.He set a lot of decoys and cleaned a lot of birds. He didn't just wait in the truck! Goose smasher |
