Thanks for all the congrats. It was alot of fun! We where out at brents, near essexs.
Got a reasonable start that morning, but a storm was rolling in. By the time I made it to my blind it was not long and you could see the lightning and thunder coming of the lake towards me. Eventually all hell broke loss and I was holding on to the blind to keep it grounded. Needless to say the others remained indoors that morning. I was wondering what the( F) I was doing out there!! The storm past quickly and sky brightened a quick call recived a gobble reply. At first 1 then 2 reply's I could not see them for the long dead grass. They continued to reply and approach. Eventually they appeared by the shore of Brents pond. This is when I first saw them, 2 toms. One larger and darker than the other. They where 80 yards away at that point and seemed to be continuing right by. I thought I need to try a different call so I tried some soft clucks and purrs. The big tom turned a started toward my hen decoy. Once he turned the other follower. The antcipation was murder, but they approched to 30 yds. The rest is history. They seem to be tough birds ! It takes a lot to bring them down. I was using my old faithfull 12g I painted camo and 2 3/4 magnum#4 You see in the picture the desert grass gillies suit top and hood I was wearing to match the grass.
