Woke up late and didnt head to the bush till 5:45am. We woke up and made it out of the house in 4 minutes. My dad and i drove 140kmh down the dirt roads to get to the bush before the turkeys flew out of there roosts. We pretty much ran across the field to get to our hunting spot. We set ourselfs up about 30 yrds in the bush facing towards the middle. we got settled in and by then it was about 20 mins before they should fly out of there roosts. my dad began calling and the turkeys were going crazy, both hens and gobblers. it sounded like there were 2 turkeys gobbling from the back and 1 in the front of the bush. when it sounded like they had flown out of their roost my dad decieded to test out his new screaming hen call he had bought. As soon as he used that call the turkey responded and was on its way. It then went quite for about 10 mins, all of the sudden a gobble came through the bush and he had to be close. Then off in the distance me and my dad spotted 2 turkeys walk through a opening. He hit the screaming hen call again once they reached a spot behind tall grass and weeds. The first turkey popped his head out of the grass then the other turkey beside him at about 50yrds now. The turkeys were visible enough to notice they were 2 jakes one with a solid red head and about a 2inch beard and the one following him was a Jake with a bright colourful head and about a 6 1/2 inch beard. my dad hit the call one more time and the bigger of the 2 gobbled right infront of us. my dad said "As soon as that turkey gets in the opening you take him" . I put the gun up and BOOM!! shot the jake in a opening at 40yds with my 12 gauge. It was a very exciting hunt and managed to get myself my very first turkey. sgun

Beard: 6 1/2"
