I put a meat sickle out about a month ago to shoot a coyote, or wolf. The bait is beside my 300 yrd target exactly three hundred yards from my house. Lots of activity from fishers and foxes on the trail cam. I keep awatch on the area and have seen coyotes on numerous occations within 50 yrds of the bait but not one on camera. I'm hoping once things warm up they will start hitting it since they know its there, I think the problem at the moment is, its hard as a rock. Looked out today and saw a fox on it in the middle of the day and thought it was the big male that has been coming so I decided to shoot it. Here is the pic before the shot. ( the cam is 12' from the bait, at 3 hundred yrds he was just a speck)

Here is the pic where he was laying when I went to the bait. This was a new fox that had never been to the bait before. He was so badly covered in mange that half his tail was gone, no fur on his belly at all and covered in huge rows of scabs.I didn't even want to touch it never mind doing anything with it. Should have taken some pics with my camera but I just wanted to get rid of it before I got any of the little buggers on me. ssscc

Good shot Mark
I had done a lot of practising for my elk hunt last year. I have targets set up at 100, 200, 300, 400, and 500 yrds. I figured no sence letting all that practising go to waste. Great thing is Chuck the 300 yrds is measured from the hot tub so I can relax while I'm waiting for them to come. I haven't figured out yet how to stop the scope from fogging up. lolol

Great shot Mark, you did him a favor.
If it's got fur, feathers or scales it's in trouble

Nice shot mark !!

I've got some bait out and the yotes were hammering it till I put the cam up. They would come in untill the flash went off.
They're pretty smart.

throw that thing in a river or high in a tree. Glad you killed it, but don't let it spread mange to the other foxes around.

That is a great shot.I havent seen the MANGE in any of our coyotes we have shot for over 5 years now .But 5 years ago MOTHER NATURE was doing her part to control the coyote population because 50% of the coyotes we shot had some sort of the mange ,some worse than others. The worst one I have ever seen was one I had shot that year.I was walking a fencerow and this"THING" I called it at the time jumped out 20 yards in front of me and I wasnt sure what the heck it was.by the time I realized it was a sickly looking coyote it had made it out to 100 yards and I DROPPED HIM IN HIS TRACKS.Iwalked up to this "THING" and couldnt believe what I was looking at.This coyote had absolutely no hair on its entire body except for the top of his head and a small puff of fur on the end of his tail.He was nothing but skin and bones.I dont know how he was surviving cause I can remember the temperatures being like -10 or more for a week straight for highs.I had defenitely did this guy a favour I believe.

Just looked out the window at work here and its snowing again.Just might be able to get back out tomorrow and get after them coyotes that have been outsmarting us the last few times out.Lots of rain the last few days though ,might be a bit mucky walking?
