Well another wolf hunt and the cold temperatures have gotten the best of the clients.
We have only had two hunters up since coyhunter and because of the cold they only hunted 4-5 hours then gave up and went home...Looks like I'll have to go out and kill some more wolves to show everybody " it can be done" LOL
Are you getting daytime pics on trail cams (can you post them) or seeing them on the baits during the daytime?

I dont put out cams because last year the wolves got smart and went nocturnal..
We have seen wolves at camp #1 daytime while feeding our horses..I took a red one from there in I think it was late December at 2pm... Have left them alone hoping to have clients shoot them but?

Joe
The wolves got smart to the cams? or just that they were being hunted? dontget1 If the the wolves have gone nocturnal how do you expect the clients to be able to shoot one? How do you know if they are nocturnal or not without the cams?

I told you I put cams up last year. I was seeing them during the day until I put cams up... I even got one or two on cams but they stopped shownng up and got them on night pics.. And I know because I do chores on both properties and bait every day...My problem is I dont always have a camera on hand.. My expierience with trail cams is that at -30-40 they dont work too well. I gave my clients rain-checks N\C.I wouldn't even go out in those temps.. Mother nature is a kicker..LOL
I expect to go out this week.....We shaw see.. I have to fill my second tag.

So your clients are driving all that way and giving up after one sit because of the cold ?

Can't understand why they wouldn't wait out for temps too accommodate them or even give it an hour or two each day . Guess there not me .

Is it a far walk to the baits ?

Well we dont all live in the north and are use to the temps. If you have hunted wolves you would know you cant get it done in an hour or two.. Dont you live in balmy Sudbury..LOL Even though you are only 7 hours away it gets colder up here...
Have you shot any this year? Show us some pics....

I guess your right ,,,, But,,,,,, I don't think they can be shot from the couch in front of the TV as well ?

I would think an hour or 2 in stand would be far better then not being in stand . Do you suggest to people that going home is a better option then hunting ?
Long drive to just up and go home after one sit ? Confusing.

If I was hunting and it was just to cold to hunt
1 Should I just go home and not hunt at all or
2 Try as much as possible to get out. 7 hour drive and all.

If 1 is the answer then why wouldn't you let people know that its going to be that cold and they should just stay home ?

You know me ,,, If I hunted wolves there would be some dead ones on the ground.

Hey Ray the weather man said it would be warm.... My clients come when they want.. I dont tell my clients to go home,I tell them to hunt...If they decide they have had enough then that is their choice... All I can do is bait and hope the weather co-operates..My clients were doctors and they have responsibilities to their patients,so they cant hang around for ever....Maybe when you have some time you can give me pointers on bear hunting too,,LOL My clients left happy and will be back....

Besides we have only had TWO people up to wolf hunt... How many dead wolves did you expect ?

I've watched quite a few wolf episodes, latest one was hunt tv. Looks tough, long sits, those suckers are so smart and elusive.
Good luck Joe, quite an accomplishment taking a wolf, specially in those super cold conditions
