I was fooling around with my new Hawke Map scope and measuring poi drop, them looking at the data on the bullistic chart that they provide. Because its a fixed reticle and everyones xbow shoots different speeds you have to find where yours best fits on the graph. Long story short, it was lining up good just not where it was recommened for the speed of my bow. I called Hawke, guys were awesome, Told them what my drop was they worked it backwards and bow should have been shooting around 30 to 40fps faster than what it was. Turns out my bow doesn't drop off at further distances like others do at 320fps. Very impressed with my Middleton. Just have to work on making this thing quieter, these recurve limbs are loud, well at least when complared to my compound. I have a flemished string coming from Boo to try, that should quiet it a tad, i think it will slow it down too though. Edited by onmedic, Jun 17 2010, 02:03 PM.

i really have to get out there and monkey around with it Chuck. I can hit a 2" circle on my bulldog every shot but need to really start grouping at 30 and 40 and 50. I have to get some serving fixed up a bit then i'll shoot some. Really concentrating on getting my compound shooting great and trying to shoot a few days a week to get ready for bear in August. I guess thats one of the nice things about the xbow. Get her sighted in, make sure the string hasn't moved off its mark, fire a couple arrows once a week and it should be bang on everytime. I still think you have to shoot it often though. Picking it up once a year just doesn't cut it for me. Its all about being comfortable with your equipment. |

I was at Ingold archery today fooling around with a few things with my compound and xbow. I had some serving seperation i wanted to get fixed up and Brad took care of me. I was shooting one of his custom endless loop strings, older style one and he just replaced mine for nothing. I like when guys stand behind their work. We also figured out why my bow was so stinking flat shooting and off the chart for for my scope at first. I could have swore that dads bow (mine now) went through the chrono at 320fps but i was wrong, way wrong. It was smoking through at 344fps!!!!!!!!! dereck guarantees the 315 to meet or exceede 315fps but holy crap!!! 344. I wanted to change to a 125grn head for increased foc anyway so i feel good about it now. With the extra weight and better numbers its shooting 336fps. Awesome! My compound on the other hand is another story. I switched up a few things, whisper quiet but boy did i lose speed, which was a good thing for turkey but now its time to crank it up. We'll find the speed again, i'm sure of it. Time to sight in the xbow again, monkey around with some broadheads and get her awesome for my bear back up. Who knows it might even go out a night or two as my primary, its fun to shoot. |
