Looks like I might finally get my first crossbow!!!! woott

I'm looking at a 2008 Excalibur Equinox....bare bones....barely used for a good price.

For now, probably just hunting deer with it, so it's bit of overkill from what I read, but that wouldn't mean I wouldn't use it for moose or bear down the road!

Anyone here one one?

Only complaint seems to be the thumbhole stock and the position of the safety. I prefer the Exomax...no thumbhole. Never been a fan.

I've never fired the thumbhole crossbow yet, so I'll have to see how it feels.

I agree about the thumbhole stock. You have to take your thumb out to flip the safety off. I have last years all camo Exomax. It works great. I shoot 100gr Rage broadheads out of it, with no problems. I don't understand why Excalibur pushes those 150 grain broadheads.

your going to love the bow but the safety is the problem ,you do have to reach up for it.
If it's got fur, feathers or scales it's in trouble

While I was looking at the crossbow, the guy had three more.....some without the thumbhole. Can't say I found it any easier to turn the safety off with those ones either. I'm surprised how comfortable the thumbhole stock is.

Not really overkill. Pretty much any of the Excals from the Vixen up will give you a passthrough. I wouldn't consider it overkill as much as a confidence booster. Also the Equinox will give you a flatter trajectory, and allow for slightly longer shots.

I've got a 175# Exocet. Will probably have it forever. You can't go wrong with an Excal.

Can't believe I haven't posted any pics of it before.

Here it is all tramped out ready to go:

Not a lot of luck so far this season, but not giving up hope yet!

good looking setup, with the sts on you don't need the front dampers on it will lighten the bow a bit.
If it's got fur, feathers or scales it's in trouble

I have last years all camo Exomax. It works great. I shoot 100gr Rage broadheads out of it, with no problems. I don't understand why Excalibur pushes those 150 grain broadheads.
I had the chance to look at a few different arrows for my crossbow.

Ex-cal fire-bolt carbon arrow with 4" vanes weighs 270 grains.
The front insert is only 22 grains.
I think they use a heavy broadhead to improve foc.

Easton power-bolt carbon arrow with 5" vanes weighs 370 grains.
The front insert is 43 grains.

Easton 2216 aluminum arrow with 5" vanes weighs 335 grains.
I did not pull inserts to weigh. Should be standard insert.

Seems to me they made an arrow for their own brand of broadhead with a specific weight for best performance.
As you can see, you can build an arrow of your own weight specs.

I was able to weigh inserts because as I tightened my broadheads in place the front inserts broke free.
This happened on a set of 6 fire-bolts and 6 power-bolts.
The inserts broke free because at the time of assembly, all of the adhesive was shoved ahead by the front of the insert! Poor workmanship! The stock vane colours really suck as well.

Needless to say as I need more arrows, I will be buying components and building my own.
