“WHAT THE HELL DORN! YOU DIDN’T HAVE TO—nn..shit..shit. haaaa..nnngggg.”

Yumi had fled. His injury had been temporarily forgotten, and Motto had gone to wave his arms while yelling at the beautiful woman when his shoulder slid out of its socket. Golden-brown eyes widened and the Hunter felt weak at the knee. If not for the sling, his right arm would have hung useless and awkward. Color drained from his face. The pain was fierce. Motto breathed in short gasps as Dorn stood there watching. With a strangled groan, he clutched at the dislocation and forced it back into place.

“rrRRRR” A short scream and panicked whimpering. His good hand shook and felt around until his bottle of pills was located. Motto pulled them out and struggled to open it for a moment before bringing it to his teeth to bite it open. Dozens of little white tablets sprayed everywhere and scattered at his feet. Dorn’s expression shifted slightly as the man lowered himself to sit on the ground while scooping up as many as he could and stuffing them into his mouth.

Motto didn’t care about the bitter taste. He was too busy scrambling to overcome the pain. Normally injuries and things like that were background noise and he wasn’t bothered by it but this was different. He hadn’t felt like this since he was a kid on Greed Island. That shit hurt like hell. Moaning, he waited for the medicine to hit and noticed Dorn turning and leaving. He didn’t blame her. He was a mess. A baka sitting on the ground eating up his stupid pills like a dog in his tattered clothes and weak-ass sling. It was probably the last time he’d see her. Oh well. At least he got to. If only things were different somehow. Why the hell did he have a crush on a crazed evil woman anyway? He was a bad person.

Motto’s spiraling negativity stopped when a plate appeared in front of his face. Dorn was back and holding a slice of what looked like lemon pie under his nose. There was a little fork but it wasn’t needed. The entire thing was already swallowed. Motto sat there breathing heavily with the taste lemon on his tongue while Dorn disappeared. A moment later the entire pie was lowered to his face. Without looking up, Motto devoured it in four ravenous bites. The next pie was eaten in the same manner, and the third. His chewing slowed on the fourth, and before Dorn could take the empty tin away, she felt an iron grip on her wrist. She remained seated on the sidewalk next to Motto and pulled her head back when he moved in to kiss her. Motto opted to bypass the embarrassment. “Can I touch your hair?”

“No.”

“Damn it.” He let go of her and scowled at his shoes.

“Motto. You’re a child and I don’t have time for children.” Dorn’s voice was light and airy, sighing in mild irritation.

“No I’m not!” he was indignant but the cream on his cheek did nothing to support it.

“Ugh. I’m only interested in real men. Stop bothering me and go away. I don’t want you Motto. I never have. You’re a little boy and always will be.”

Anger welled up in the Hunter’s heart and on his face, but Motto was too weak to sustain it. His pride shriveled up and went silent. “I want to be a man. Teach me how.”

"..That's something a child would say."

".........shit!" Motto grabbed his hair in frustration. He was a child and it was so embarrassing! Dorn had gotten to her feet. “Wait!”

“No. Go away, Motto. I will kill you if you bother me again.” The bakery door opened and closed.

Motto sat there for a long time. Numbness took over his body and his mind. He was nothing.

Everyone's always telling you to be humble. When was the last time someone told you to be great?

Rewarding for Motto since it's in his perspective:

150,000 jenni and 1 RP. Just as always, you're very good at portraying your people in their fullest and giving them character. Your strong point as a writer is handling the internal struggles and development of people.
