Segon sat indian style near the logging road, his eyes closed. He was focused, but also burdened with a heavy boredom. He continued the standard training to past the time, forming the aura at his fingertips into numbers. For the most part, he'd run out of things to say.

"1..."

"2..."

"3..."

Nearby, a large box truck made its way up the road. Inside, three mafioso sat.

"So...why are we doing this again?" One of them asked.

"10..."

"Because Segon asked us, idiot!" Another responded.

"11..."

"Yeah, I get that, but...Segon works for us, right? So why do we need to go out of our way to do all of this?"

"12..."

The third mafioso yawned and stretched. "Beats sitting around playing cards all day if you ask me. I enjoy checking out the scenery. Plus, all we've done is drive, that woman...Rosemary? She did all of the hard work."

"16..."

"How did she pull it off anyway?"

"17..."

"I'm not sure. But people say she's quite the looker. I'll bet she seduced all of these idiots and knocked them out somehow! What a bunch of dweebs!"

The other Mafioso laughed.

"Haha! Yeah. Some guys really can't control themselves around beautiful women!"

"20..."

"Hey, Segon..." a voice broke in.

Segon turned to Cobb.

The young man sat next to him, looking just as bored. He twirled his long black hair around in his fingers, and played with a small mushroom in his other hand.

"Why are you doing all of this again?"

"I thought I told you, Cobb,"
Segon began.

"My job keeps me in the Mafia's employ. Recently, I pissed off some Nen Cops. Well, that's putting it lightly. I killed one of them."

"Oh...?"
Cobb said, becoming a bit more interested.

Segon nodded.

"I doubt they're going to sweep all of this under the rug and forget about it. Cop killers get dealt with."

"Well, why did you do it then? Master Ekel always said killing Cops is bad for business. Especially when you have his position I'd imagine."

"I'm not sure...it seemed like the good call at the time. Really, I think I just got too into the whole thing,"
Segon smiled.

The sound of approaching tires could suddenly be heard on the horizon.

"Ah, they're here."
Segon said as he stood up.

Cobb nonchalantly popped the mushroom into his mouth and chewed it up.

The truck stopped all the logging road. The three mafioso's emerged with semi-automatic weapons, they greeted Segon and his companion and headed towards the back. The men opened the truck, revealing 16 men, crammed inside, gagged and hands bound. The mafiosos barked orders at the men, forcing them out. The frightened, dazed and confused men, obliged. The mafiosos marched them out towards the front, Segon watched them with his hands on his hip. One of the mafioso's became visibly enraged at the sight of Segon, and managed to spit his gag out.

"Segon!? What the fuck is this!? What are you doing?"

Segon waved to the man.

"Sorry. Who are you?"

"I'm Lloyd of the Eastway Family! You worked for us just last year!"

Segon put a hand to his chin and thought for a moment.

"Oh yes!" he responded.

"Funny we meet like this. Then again, I didn't exactly give her any details on who she should capture, as long as it wasn't my current employers or the Ekel Family," Segon said the latter part nodding towards Cobb.

Cobb waved. "Hi, I'm Cobb. I just work as an envoy."

"I don't care who the fuck you are!" The Mafioso spat.

"When our boss finds our what happened you're all fucked!"

Segon smiled and walked towards Lloyd.

"That's why your boss isn't going to find out, dumb dumb. Cobb and my other friends here have no problem with me getting rid of the competition for them."

The mafioso looked Segon over.

"Wh-what are you--" before the mafioso could finish his sentence, Segon lashed out with his chain, throwing one quick fluid motion into the man's temple. He fell to the ground motionless, staring wide-eyed.

The other mafioso's looked on helplessly as Segon began to pace in front of them.

"Now. We're going to play a bit of a game. In the forest, hills and mountains around us are several stashed weapons. Knives, bats, guns, explosives...almost anything. We can think our friend Cobb for procuring that for us."

Cobb smiled and nodded to the mafiosos.

"If I'm going to work as a protector of those with unscrupulous morals, I'll need to stay in shape. Recently I may have pissed off the wrong people. I'll need to be prepared for retaliation. That's where you all come in!"

One of the three mafiosos from earlier removed a knife. He began cutting the ties and removing the gags of all of the bound men, while the others watched with their guns. As he did this Cobb suddenly walked forward and touched each one of the previously bound men on the side of the face with two fingers.

"This is going to be a bit of a hunt. I'm the hunter, and you're the hunted. I'll give you all a head start, and then I'm coming in after you. Whoever kills the other first wins! Feel free to band up with each other if you'd like. But you might as well try to find a weapon, right? I mean...the mafia didn't hire me to kill their enemies by chance, right?"

"Y-you fucking idiot Segon!" Lloyd called from the ground, struggling to stand, Segon turned to him.

"What's stopping any of them from just running off and escaping? You're a dead man walking!"

Segon walked towards Lloyd, he removed his chain again, but this time charged Shu into it. Cobb quietly covered his eyes as Segon reared back and slammed the Shu enhanced chain into Lloyd's head. The man's skull caved in with a gruesome crack and splatter.

"Speak when spoken to, Lloyd..."
Segon said as he turned back towards the men.

"I think you'll find venturing too far in this region can be detrimental to your health. It's full of dangerous wild life. Also, Cobb here has just infected you with a mushroom spore that will kill you if you stray too far. Is that about the gist of it, Cobb?"

Cobb shrugged. "Close enough."

Segon smiled and turned back to the men. "Okay fellas. Get a move on it!"

The men stared at each other nervously for a moment, unsure of what to do, then one finally ran into the forest screaming, followed by another and another, until they were all out of sight. Segon walked to the treeline and waited. "I'll give 'em about 20 minutes." Cobb turned to the three mafiosos standing around with their guns.

"Uh, you guys want to go pick some mushrooms?"

Segon walked through the forest slowly and methodically. Doing his best to maintain an awareness of his surroundings. There was no guarantee many of the mobsters would locate any of the weapons cache, even Segon did not know where Cobb hid them, but he wasn't willing to take any chances by giving away his position via rushing in carelessly. Although his Hatsu could easily stop most gunfire, he'd hate to waste all of the aura and make himself vulnerable. Even maintaining an En for long periods of time would prove costly, it wanted to save that for "late game", if possible. It was with this in mind Segon made his trek in search of prey, keeping a light Ten around his body for any quick adjustments he needed to make.

But unbeknown to him, an opponent was already preparing their offensive. Doing his best to conceal his presence behind a large tree trunk, the mobster waited patiently and quietly. He heard Segon's light footsteps approaching. A bead of sweat dripped down his nose, as he eyes wandered to the side, waiting for his hunter to approach. Once Segon's silhoutte was visible, his muscles tightened as he balled his hand into a fist.

Lashing out in one quick motion, the man threw his fist out. The quick blow took Segon off guard, and slammed into his face. He instinctively backpedaled and lashed out with one of his chains. The man's eyes widened as he managed to duck under the chain by rolling to the side and entering a defensive position. Segon swung his chain back towards himself and inspected the man.

"That was a pretty nice strike," Segon said rubbing the side of his face.

If I wasn't using Ten that would've stunned me a bit. Good thing none of these bums can use Nen.

"Hmph," the man said as he began to unbutton his shirt. Once he was done the man cast the shirt aside, revealing a lean body of tight muscle.

"I wont need a gun to handle you, Segon. Unlike the others I'm a trained martial artists that's spent years honing his body and fighting skills. The name's Luke, and I'll kill you with my bare hands."

Segon smiled.

"That's quite the confidence you've got there Luke. But do you really think one lucky blow means you can take me down?"

"Let's find out," Luke smiled.

Suddenly the man rushed towards Segon throwing a well-timed roundhouse kick. Segon ducked under the blow and move to the side, but the man responded with a wild left hook Segon managed to lean back to avoid, only to be struck by a strong kick to the mid-section that pushed him back. Segon grunted slightly as he slid back in the dirt in came to a stop.

Luke entered a defensive strike and watched Segon attentively.

"Not bad. I can see why the Families hired you."

"You're not bad yourself Mister Luke. But I'm afraid without a gun you're good as dead."

"We'll see about that. This next strike will be your undoing. Then I'll reveal your corruption to all of the Families, bring your head to my boss, and get a promotion!"

Segon simply smiled politely.

"Lofty goals..."

The man crouched down and tightened his muscles again, then he sprang forward, launching himself towards Segon with all the speed he could muster. Segon simply waited, keeping his hands on his chain. As the main drew closer, Segon threw out a chain again, the man managed to twist his body, dodging to the side and continuing to close the distance, Segon brought the chain back towards the back of the man, but this time he simply ducked and threw out a hand grabbing onto the chain.

"Stupid tricks like this wont work on me Segon!" The man said, rage and resentment painted across his face as he continued to approach. But suddenly his attention was focused on the chain, as it suddenly stiffened and become harder to the touch. Luke could not see it, but Segon poured Shu into his chain.

Using the newly reinforced chain as a pulley, Segon yanked himself towards the man delivering a swift upwards kick into his chin. The man's head yanked upwards as spit flew from his mouth and he let go of Segon's chain. Segon brought his newly free chain into the man's side. It struck with quite a bit of force, knocking the wind out of him and sending him into the ground, perhaps breaking a few ribs as well.

The stunned man laid on the ground clutching his injured side and looked up at Segon, who was staring down at him with a grin on his face.

"A shame it had to end like this. You could've been an interesting opponent if your life turned out differently," Segon said, as he poured even more of his Aura into his chain.

"Wai--" the man started, but his cry for mercy was cut short when Segon brought his Shu reinforced chain down upon his skull, causing a sickening crack to emanate through the immediate area.

The man who was Luke lay dead on the forest floor, as Segon continued his hunt.

Segon walked through the forests listening carefully. He hadn't run past anyone since he'd defeated Luke, but he was certain he'd see someone sooner or later.

Suddenly something to the side caught Segon's attention. He turned towards a tree, to see two large horned beetles engaged in a fight for dominance on a tree. Segon walked towards the tree and inspected the battle. He found himself drawn towards their struggle, it was quite fascinating to him. Something about their Darwinian compulsion to battle urged him to watch.

Suddenly something behind him caught his attention, a sound stirring in the bushes. As Segon turned his head a rock suddenly flew from the woods at a high-rate of speed. Segon narrowly avoided the rock as it sailed past his head and into the tree before him, embedding itself firmly in the bark, and killing one of the beetles.

Segon turned fully towards the brush.

"Hey, I was watching that!" he shouted angrily.

S-shit! a lone mafioso thought as he crouched down, picking up another rock to load into the slingshot he found.

Just my luck. There's supposedly all kinds of weapons in this forest and I come across a damn slingshot!

Segon held onto his chain as he begin to walk towards the brush. Suddenly another rock flew forward. Segon spun his chain around in a circle, deflecting the rock away from him. He continued to walk towards the brush, spinning the chain the whole time.

The mafioso continued to attempt to hold out, but eventually his nerves gave and he rushed away, dropping the slingshot as he went.

"Fuck!"

"There you are..." Segon grinned as he followed the mafioso with his eyes and dashed after him, charging Shu into his chain while spinning it. When he began to gain on the main he threw the chain forward, but suddenly felt the ground give way.

"Hm!?"

Segon looked down to see himself falling into a leaf concealed pit.

"Hah! Good work!" Another Mafioso called as he stepped out of the brush. His comrade stood nearby, hunched over on his knees as he caught his breath.

"Man, next time you're playing the bait and I'm making the trap."

"Relax. We got this bastard, that's all that matters."

Unbeknown to the men Segon was perfectly find, grabbing onto an underground root from a nearby tree with his chain.

He looked down at the bottom of the hole. It was fairly deep. Segon was impressed they'd managed to dig it so quickly.

Guess they have lots of practice digging holes...
