Wanderer, eater of two cakes, taker of threesomes

Genma's time spent travelling this time had been pleasant. Arukan was on the whole was a place he'd liked being each time he'd visited. The investigation from three years before in which a woman had lost herself and was said to have hurt her children came to mind. She was a middle age single mother with three children in their teens who had gone to school with bruises each and every day of the week. She swore she had nothing to do with the injuries but the authorities and the hunter's association had a hard time believing her words. A simple case by all accounts, Genma was called in as a favor. In the end, after two weeks of investigations, it was found out that her boyfriend had been drugging her and was the source of the bruises. He never confessed to exactly what went on. Genma handled it and at the end of the second week, Hank, his boss came into town and dealt with the rest. All things considered, he remembered the Arukan Continent fondly based on that trip and what he saw.

He snapped back to reality, realizing he'd missed some of his surroundings but he was clearly still on the right path. He'd already passed the worst of it with the first few sections he found himself climbing and had since begun traversing a series of plateau like flat areas between two of the peaks. There was snow up this far in altitude still and Genma couldn't help but feel alive as the wind bit the bare portions of his skin just enough to make him feel alive but not cause him to be uncomfortably cold. It was an odd feeling seeing snow but not feeling the deep cold. He's always thought where there was snow, there was too much cold. He was wrong.

He'd momentarily forgotten Walter refused to wait at the office those days ago when he initially left on this hunt but was reminded quickly a moment later when the dog-like creature brushed up against his left leg. Walter took a deep breath and as if satisfied with the smells around it, moved on ahead. Genma was blown away at the wherewithal of the animal who had proven he could outpace Genma himself fairly easily if he'd wanted to. Genma never knew the breed of the animal but fully assumed it was borderline 'beast' level creature that simply walked all day showing very little sign of being physically tired if it suited him. It definitely wasn't an average dog. Walter refused to attack anything on order or of his own volition and Genma was ok with that.

He caught up to the little white beast a few moments later and was robbed of his breath as he stared down into the cavernous and deceptively hidden area below. He understood why this was the site of the treasure. No average person would easily be able to find this place on a map and get here in a reasonable amount of time given how far away from civilization it seemed to be. Genma was always prepared for treasure hunts like this and his heavy pack and all of his adventuring gear contained in it was proof. He'd spent long enough getting here and it was clear he'd be here for a while before sleeping in a real bed again but strangely...he was...happy. He was a treasure hunter for a reason. It was exhilarating.

Below him stood a damn near immaculate white stone temple similar to the picture he held in his hands with four large pillars on each corner built directly into the mountain itself. It was too far to see now but it looked as though the middle of the first altarlike area in between each of the 4 pillars was rather empty except for the snow that covered the temple on the outside edge. Genma could not see far enough inside the large open mouthed cave that protected the rest of the temple but he assumed it would be somewhat protected by the elements. After taking in the sight, he smiled and reminded himself of the goal. The pearls buried inside the temple below.

an eternally busy little mango

As Jake slowly made progress up the snowy incline, she slipped on a rock and fell, tumbling down the hill. “Son of a Yeti! Jack was supposed to tumble down the hill not Jake.” She joked to herself. The good thing about this woman from the southern islands is that she always found something to joke about even if she was cold, tired, and freaked out by the weird weather. Oh, she’s seen snow before. But never this thick. So deep that your feet got buried in inches of snow when you walked. It was tiring and annoying. Her crotch was wet from the stuff and she didn’t like it. At least, now she didn’t. A few hours ago, when she first saw the sight, she was as happy and excited as a child at Christmas. She tumbled in it, made snow angels, and even scooped some up and made snow cones with it. The last one was not the best idea. It chilled her to the bone.

Jake got up and brushed snow off her shoulders and head. She picked up the articles that had fallen out of her pack and replaced them in their proper places. She sneezed. She sneezed again and shivered. She hugged the thick fur-lined coat she had on closer to herself and looked up to gauge how much farther she was going to travel that day. Maybe it wasn’t such a good idea to have set out in this snowy wilderness knowing that she knew nothing of this kind of terrain and weather. Oh well… she always seemed to manage. How is today any different? She placed her hands together and whispered a short prayer to her mother in heaven and proceeded forward.

Two hours later, it was dark and still there was no shelter in sight. Should she risk camping out in the open? But what about wild animals and the chilly wind? She vetoed herself against it and pressed forward. Eventually she came to a plateau. “Finally! Some flat land! My feet are killing me!” she muttered under her heaving. She stumbled forward, relishing the feel of flat land on her soles. Then she noticed something out of the ordinary. Ahead of her was light. She squinted her eyes to see farther and ascertain the origin of the brilliance. No use. Despite being exhausted and hungry, she moved forward hoping that light meant shelter. Maybe it was a camp of friendly natives who could share their hot food with her. The thought was a comfort and gave her the energy needed to move. Unfortunately, her dreaming made her miss the drop in front of her and once again, Jake fell down and hit her crown and her bag came tumbling after.
