"Chief, he's here," a young police officer said. The Chief turned and headed out of the warehouse. He was taken aback a bit by the man approaching him. "And he's a weird one," the officer whispered. "Detective Espion," the bag headed young man said flashing his card. "Have you found anything of note?" The chief shook his head. "Nothing of note, besides the break-in itself and what was stolen." "And what exactly was stolen?" Espion asked. The chief shrugged. "Priceless artifacts. The guy who owns this warehouse, he's a bit of an eccentric, likes to hire Hunters to fetch rare artifacts for him. He then turns around and sells them at the auctions." "He has two other warehouses in the area, but those were untouched." "Odd..." Espion said. The chief scratches the back of his head. "The guy who hires them, he doesn't need the money. I guess it's a bit of a game to him." "I can only imagine," Espion nodded before heading towards the warehouse. It was a rather large warehouse, heavily fortified in its construction, including the steel door that was now partially tore of its hinges and had a large dent from some impact about a foot down from the top. Espion inspected the door carefully as the chief and officer stood behind him. He turned towards them. "If you don't mind, I'd like to investigate the interior by myself for a little while." "Go right ahead," the chief nodded. Espion nodded and entered the warehouse. He applied a Gyo to his eyes and looked around the area. Noticing a surveillance camera suspended from the ceiling. He stopped using Gyo and turned towards the chief. "Got anything on that camera?" The chief shook his head. "Whoever they were, they were smart enough to cut the power. Cameras got nothing. Also, judging from the way they were able to tear down that door, we're not dealing with amateurs. As you've probably noticed, there's no sign of any vehicle or machine that could've done that." Espion nodded and turned back around. He placed his hands in his pockets and used En. I Spy Espion's En took on a swirling tornado like quality as he pulsed it from his body. Examining every nook and cranny he was capable of reaching. He walked around the area a bit, never taking his hands out of his pockets, and never bothering to look down. The chief and officer looked at each other and shrugged. Espion approached a second steel door, similarly dented and tore off the hinges. He inspected it closely while his En moved over it. Judging by the size of the dent, and the way it's tore off, it was likely the same person who tore off the entrance. Espion's eyes narrow as his En detects small faint traces of aura around the door, and around the dent. The aura was barely detectable, and Espion relied more on intuition and experience to decipher its presence but it was there, and only there. So they had at least one Nen user with them. Judging by the size and depth of the dent, they used a reinforced punch to loosen it off of the hinges, and then pushed there way inside. Most likely, we're dealing with an Enhancer, Emitter, or Transmuter with a decent amount of aura. Espion stepped inside of the room, and searched around, but found nothing of note. He stopped using his ability and exited heading towards the two officers. "Not sure what their game is yet. But I think we should keep watch of the other two warehouses just in case." The chief nodded. "He already has private security watching the other two, but I don't think he'll mind our help." Espion nodded. "Great. I'll contact a friend of mine and get him to lend a hand, that way I can watch one while he watches the other. His deductive skills aren't quite as good as mines, but he's a better fighter." The chief blinked. "Fighter? You expect a big confrontation." "It's a possibility," Espion said as he pulled out a cellphone. "We'll back you up," the chief said. Espion began walking off. "Thanks. But I'd rather you didn't. When I said "we" I meant my people. We'll be taking over the investigation now." "What?! You can't ju--" "Call my superiors if you have a problem. Trust me. It's just better this way," Espion said as he continued to walk away with the phone to his ear. "Hello? Din?" |

It was a quiet dark evening when Din arrived. He was happy to had spoken to his friend Espion, and excited to work with him again. He exited his vehicle and approached the security guards with his characteristic cheery smile. Spoiler: click to toggle "Uh, hey. Who the hell are you?" asked the guard. Din flashed his badge. "Detective Din. I'm here to stakeout the warehouse. Surely, Espion told you we're taking things over." The security guard spat. "Yeah, some bag wearing freak mentioned it. But we get paid by the hour, so I really don't see any way we're letting some random guys like you take over, I don't care about your credentials." Din used Gyo and looked over the two security guards in front of him. They didn't appear to be Nen users. "Look guys," Din said stopping Gyo. "I'm not here to cause any issues, it's just that my team works better alone. Trust me, it's likely we're dealing with some bad hombres, and I'd rather not have collateral damage on my hand." The two guards looked at each other and smirked. "The only collateral damage..." one began. "Is you if you don't get the hell out of here!" the other finished. Din nodded. "I see. I see. Do you mind if I see your gun?" The security guard's eye twitched. He raised up his gun, a small semi-automatic and aimed it at Din. "Yeah, I'll let you see it alright. Get the hell outta he--!" The security guard's sentence was cut short as Din quickly reached out and grabbed the barrel of the gun. Din grunted as he charged aura into his hand and began to pull up on the gun muzzle. The guards blinked in astonishment as Din slowly bent the gun muzzle upward. Din let go, flashing a cheery smile again. "The people we're dealing with are likely able to perform a similar feat. They may be able to do it even easier then I can." The guards looked at each other and blinked. "Now, when I say "collateral damage", I do hope you take me seriously," Din smiled. "Uh, yeah sure...we'll explain the situation to our employer," one of the guards said. He pulled his friend away who just stared in astonishment at Din and his bent gun. "Feel free to bill me for the damage done to your gun. Contact Espion," Din smiled as he entered the warehouse. After looking around a bit, he decided to hide on the 2nd floor. Din got a running start, then focused aura into his feet and legs before jumping into the air. He clamped onto the side of the 2nd floor with a grunt and pulled himself up. After climbing onto the floor, Din pulled out his cellphone and dialed a number. "Did you make it, Din?" Espion answered, sitting on a small hill overlooking the warehouse he was at. "Yup. I may have angered the security guards, but oh well," Din smiled. Espion sighed. "I told them you were coming. I'm surprised they weren't willing to work with you." "Erm. I may have rubbed them the wrong way." Espion shook his head. "Got it. Just call me if anything happens." "No problem, Esp. See ya later," Din smiled. "Later," Espion said before the phone hung up. "Now time for the boring part," Din sighed as he folded his arms and leaned against a wall, closing his eyes. |

Din waited patiently with his eyes closed, leaned against a far wall. Then he heard a the bang of metal giving way. Din's eyes popped open. And he instinctively entered a crouched position. He neared the side of the floor as far as he could while remaining hidden. Over the rails he saw the metallic door giving way. A few minutes later, three figures climbed through. They wore dark sunglasses and scarfs across their face. All three seemed to be armed with guns at the waist. Not wasting any time, Din opened the palm of his right-hand, and charged aura into it. A gun materialized. He aimed and fired at the man closest to him, striking him in the neck. The men jumped at the sound, staring at their partner, but he did not fall down dead. Instead he pulled out his gun, and turned towards his companions, and fired rounds at them. The shocked men tried to reach for their weapons, but had no time to do so before they dropped dead. Din hopped down from his hiding place, and began walking towards the man. "How do you like it?" Din smiled. "A pretty good use of Conjuration and Manipulation, I thi---" Din's sentence was cut short by the sound of something metallic traveling through the air. The object struck his victim in the head, resulting in a blood splatter, and the Manipulated man falling to the ground motionless. "A Chain...?" Din thought as the object pulled back into the night. As the sound of chains grew closer, Din pulled out his cellphone and dialed Espion's number. A second later, the chain came back, this time aimed directly at his head. Din managed to react just in time as he dodged to the side, dropping his phone. Feint laughter followed, as the chain wielder watched him. "Well what do we have here. A little spider that fell right into our web?" Segon smirked. Without waiting a second, Din aimed his gun at Segon, and fired off three shots. His eyes nearly popped out of his skull when the bullets stopped in mid-air inches, away from Segon's body. Din used Gyo, checking for hidden aura. Sure enough, the bullets were encased in some kind of aura emanating from his opponent's body. "I see," Din said he cancelled his ability. The bullets vanished, and Segon stopped his ability as well. "You must be a Transmuter," Din said. Segon nodded. "And you're a Manipulator, or Conjurer. Or maybe even a Specialist..." Segon smirked. Din entered a stance, and charged aura into his fist. Segon raised an eyebrow and watched quizzically as the aura suddenly doubled in intensity. "If only you were so lucky..." Din grimaced. |

"Hey!" a young officer cried out as Espion rushed past him. The fact that he bumped into the man barely registered in Espion's mind. The police chief reached out and placed a hand on the officer's shoulder. "Let him go," he said simply. The scene was a mess. Two men were covered up with sheets, blood splatter and spent bullet casings lined the floor, there were dents and an assortment of broken material around the vicinity, and worst of all, Din's broken body lay in the middle of it. The forensics specialist immediately looked up and met Espion's eyes. "Dammit, how am I supposed to work if people keep busting in here!" Espion ignored the blonde woman as he walked towards Din, flashing his badge at her. "Hey, I don't care about your credentials, we're trying to figu--" "This is outside of your jurisdiction. PACK UP AND LEAVE!" Espion barked at her, he could barely contain the bloodlust seeping through his pores, and after being dumbstruck for a second, the woman responded to the beckoning of the chief outside. Espion turned back towards Din. He stooped down and examined his body. He didn't need I Spy to tell what happened here as he examined Din's disfigured face and maimed arm. They pulled his arm out of the socket. Justice Fist was the only offensive Enhancer ability Din had...if his right arm was wounded that would put him at a severe disadvantage against a skilled Nen user. But... Espion clenched his fist as his thoughts continued to race. This wasn't just a simple manner of giving themselves an advantage Espion considered as he noted each one of Din's fingers were broken. They were making a statement. No...were toying with him... Espion reached down and with two fingers he closed Din's still open eyes. After clearing his throat he reached down into his pocket and dialed a number, during his best to regain his composure. "Hello?" Espion's boss answered. "Din's dead..." Espion said. "God Dammit! We'll get the sonuvabitches who did this Espion. Don't worry." "I know..." Espion said, trailing off a bit. "...Espion. Don't worry. This isn't your fault. You can't blame yourself for Din's fate. He was an Enhancer that relied on Manipulator and Conjuration abilities. If he'd been more careful about developing his Nen techniques..." "I don't want to hear it," Espion said flatly before hanging up. He considered maybe he shouldn't have spoken to the chief like that. But right now he didn't care. He couldn't help but feel partially responsible for Din's death. After all, he was the one who taught Din how to use Nen, and perhaps his own personality rubbed off on him a bit more than it should. After all, an Enhancer would fit into the Assault Division much more than Investigations, and Din was as straightforward as Enhancers got. Maybe that's why he was so adamant at being an investigator in the first place. Espion looked over his shoulder noting that the cops had actually pulled off. Gotta hand it to that chief of theirs, he thought. Espion then turned his attention to the scenery. The forensics team would be able to piece everything together better, but there was no reason for Espion to not get a start on what really happened. He took a walk around, examining the environment. Two men, riddled with bullets, the bullets didn't match any law enforcement arms he was aware of. It was their bullets. Din's Manipulation. But where is the other one? Espion turned his attention to the blood trail and set off to followed it. |

It was a short walk to the nearby docking area from the warehouse. The blood trail ended around there though. Espion stopped using I Spy. "He jumped into the water then?" Espion considered. Suddenly Espion heard a loud splash and a gasp. He peered over into the water, and saw a man bleeding profusely from the side of his head struggling for air. "Pl-please! Help me!" the man cried out. He desperately reached up and grabbed onto the board. Espion reached down and with a loud grunt awkwardly pulled the man up. Both of them fell back and Espion stood dusting himself off. "Who are you?" Espion asked. The man panted as he looked up at Espion. "I'm...I'm...I can't tell you nothin'" the man said. Espion sighed and pulled his watch out of his pocket. A light Shu covered the watch as he held it in front of the man's face. "What happened at the warehouse?" Espion asked. The man's eyes grew wide and lifeless as he suddenly felt compared to answer Espion. "We came to raid the place. But someone was here. He did something to me. Magic or something. Made me shoot the others. Than...I...blacked out. When I woke up I heard police sirens...so I crawled here, to hide." Black out? That wasn't part of Din's ability. "Why did you blackout?" Espion asked. "I...I don't remember..." No good. Espion thought. Without actually knowing what happened the best he can do is guess. Espion stopped using Hypnotic Suggestion, and placed the watch back into his pocket. The man immediately snapped to his senses. "Wha--what the hell did you do to me!? What is this?" Espion ignored the man's questioning as he placed his fingers to his chin, thinking. "Well, I'll just have to wait..." Espion said to himself. "Wait for wh-!?" "You're lucky," Espion broke in, noting the man's head injury and blood loss. "I'm surprised you regained consciousness, let alone remained lucid after a wound like that." "Unless..." Espion stooped down and got a better look at the man. He used Gyo. The traces were faint, but Espion could see aura seeping from the man's body. His nodes had been opened, either from Din's ability or the blow the damaged his head. "I see..." Espion said as he removed his pocket knife. "Wha--what are you doing? I thought you were going to help me!" the frightened man cried. "Sorry," Espion said flicking the knife open. "Your aura nodes have been opened. I can't risk you becoming another problem I have to deal with." "Aura nodes? What the hell are yo--" the man was cut short, as Espion let go of his knife, then quickly pulsed I Spy from his body, driving the knife forward and into the man's skull. Espion then Manipulated the knife back into his hand. He wiped the blood off and placed it back in his pocket. |
