As soon as Sable picked up her devices, Spike started gathering the map pieces up and placing them back into their folder. He gave a short thumbs up when her voice came through clearly over the com, then went back to getting his gear back in order. Honestly, he didn't have any equipment he couldn't do without that'd jeopardize the assignment. From within his larger pack the hunter removed a much smaller backpack, transferring his med kit and a few other odds and ends over to it instead. The climbing ax he'd been using as a pointer went onto his belt with a quiet click of a clip. Spike shifted forward a bit to turn the propane burner off, with a noticeable chilling in the air at the loss of even that tiny flame. From a side pocket he removed a white bundle of cloth, that quickly unfolded into a mask. It took a bit of doing given his dreads, but the hunter managed to get the balaclava down over his face and his hat back over that. He slung his smaller pack as he stood up, adjusting the straps so it was tight against his back. "Alright, let's get going." Spike stated, then hauled himself out of the dugout. Once Sable exited, he began stomping around the edge of the hole, dislodging increasing amounts of snow from the walls. Didn't take long to bury the gear they had opted to leave behind. "I'm pretty sure Combo will send a search party to look for clues after we pull this off, best not to leave any bread crumbs behind." The hunter noted, while taking a moment to do a short series of stretches to limber up. "Stay close." |

The howling of the wind was their only company as the duo journeyed further up the mountain. The thick snow made it slow going, as well as tiring. Despite Spike's earlier assurance about the lack of outside patrols, Sable kept an eye open. It was possible they'd changed it up at the last minute, and wild animals could be lurking. Staggering a bit, Sable channeled a bit of her aura into her feet. Watching Spike's back in front of her, the Ravenness mulled over what she knew so far about her partner. He was clearly experienced in this line of work, and had been polite. Further, he seemed well prepared, and had been ready to answer her questions. A man of knowledge, and presumably, skill. His Ten and Hunter's license attested to that. She was curious about his experience in these activities, but knew better than to pry. That would only invite questions in return, questions she had no desire to answer. One question lingered in Sable's mind however. The only other Nen user she'd met was her deceased teacher, though she knew that they existed in the world. She almost asked Spike where he'd learned the power, but held her tongue at the last second. This wasn't a meet and greet, and she doubted he'd be willing to share the information anyway. The job always comes first. The snow crunched, and silence continued to rule the duo. |

Spike had to marvel at how relentless the mountain was at depositing snow along its vast range. He'd journeyed between the base and his camp at least a dozen times since he started doing recon, and each time his foot prints were always long gone; this trip was no different. In fact, if he had to guess, the pass was at least a foot or two higher than it'd been this morning. Thankfully, the apes seemed to be stepping out of his way this time around. The hunter spotted the tell-tale signs of movement a few times on the icy horizon, but they kept their distance. He chalked this up to them being the same bunch that had watched him butcher one of them for breakfast, its picked over corpse still laying somewhere beneath this fresh powder. After he and Sable nearly reached the top of a certain hill, Spike threw up a closed fist, hoping that she'd understand the gesture as stop. Similarly, he followed with a quick wave at the ground, then dropped himself prone into the snow. The hunter crawled forward to peek over the ridge, hand lowering to his belt to withdraw a pair of white binoculars. Silently he scanned the icy cliffs a few hundred yards beyond their position, then glanced over to sable, tapping the watch on his wrist rather than breaking radio silence. It was almost showtime. Within a few minutes a faint buzz could be heard over the gusting winds, before a small airship descended from the thick cloud cover above. A thunderous snap erupted from the cliff face, with only the sheared ice sheets falling from the seemingly rocky surface indicating any movement. The sound continued at first, while a line started to form horizontally hundreds of yards across the mountain, gradually being replaced by the shriek of under oiled and over used machinery straining to open the massive blast doors. The airship slowed its descent as it approached the bay beyond. It had time to wait; unfortunately, the two intruders didn't. Spike pushed forward from his position after reholstering his binoculars, sending himself over the ridge and down the slope on his stomach like a penguin. He'd barely slowed before he stopped himself completely with his hands and a quick burst of Ren, jumping to his feet before even checking if his partner was still following. By now the airship was so close its rotors completely muted out the crunching of the hunter's footfalls, as he sprinted for the lower of the fully opened doors. Said bottom door made a great temporary platform in its current position, a perfect place to reach if someone were capable of clearing the twenty-foot gap between it and the ground. Thankfully, Nen made being superhuman relatively easy. Spike squatted down for a moment, concentrating much of his aura into just his legs, then became a near blur as he rocketed skyward. Funnily enough, he actually overshot his target height by a few feet, and came down hard on his soles atop the platform. The impact would've rung out with a noticeable 'thunk' if all sound wasn't being superseded by the airship directly overhead. Squatting again, he glanced down over the edge and held out an open hand into the air. Under his face obscuring mask, Spike was frowning heavily, because he honestly didn't know if Sable could make the jump. The least he could do at this point was give her a hand up if she needed one. |

Sable's quiet introspection was interrupted as Spike threw up his fist in a gesture unmistakably telling her to stop moving. Complying, Sable lowered herself to the ground next to him, making sure to remain hidden behind the rise. Spike's white clothing was far better in this blizzard than hers, something she took note of for the future. Picking black might help once inside, but it wouldn't be as necessary then. Best to dress for the environment. Spike peered at something through the binoculars, presumably the target location. Looking back at her, the man tapped his watch. A simple nod back was all the confirmation Sable gave that she understood. The pair waited for their window of opportunity, with Sable content to follow Spike's lead. Even though she knew the basic plan, Spike no doubt had a better grasp on the intel, due to him probably having many hours to read it over. If he led them into an unfavorable situation, that would just mean that she was wrong to have judged him as a professional. Spike's slide down the hill might have been comical in a different situation. As it is, the Ravenness copied his movements with a second thought. As they neared the bottom door, Spike flew into the air, his Nen jump sending him over the door before he landed on top. Any doubt about the strength of the man's Nen was dispelled after that sight. Unfortunately, this also meant that even with Spike's arm reach to help, Sable knew she couldn't make that jump. At least, not in the way Spike had. Of course, pure strength isn't all there is to Nen. More than anything, it's how you use it. Still, Spike's jump had solidified Sable's next goal: strengthen her Nen. But as always, the mission comes first. Taking a few steps back, she channeled all 100% of her aura into her legs. Pushing off, she dashed before leaping with all of her strength. Due to her dash, she flew up and forward at an angle. As she flew through the air, Sable channeled her aura, focusing all of it into her right foot. At the apex of her leap, a little more than halfway up the door, Sable's arc coincided with the wall. Letting her right foot lead, Sable pushed off the wall again, gaining an extra five feet of height. As she sailed away from the wall, Sable reached up, grabbing Spike's hand. He hauled her up, getting both of them onto the lower door. The Ravenness gave Spike a thumbs-up to thank him for the help. |

Spike had to let out a relieved sigh after getting a good grip on Sable's hand. It hadn't seemed like she'd have the prowess to make the jump as he had for a moment there, but then she pulled it off quite well; albeit in a more creative manner to compensate. Honestly, he thought better of her reaching the goal this way, than if she'd done it with raw power like him. The hunter had to give credit where credit was due, but for the sake of time he just settled for returning the thumbs up. Besides, they'd have time for congratulations once the mission was over. Keeping low but fast, Spike sprinted across the door over to a staircase on the left side of the bay's entrance, just as the map had indicated. From the ground level the bases of massive metal struts supporting the ceiling helped to obscure things along with innumerable crates and containers, besides the airship of course, but from the second floor one could get a better view. Cargo choked the catwalk the hunter carefully crept unto, yet it still had room for two people to walk abreast, as well as spots between boxes and look down at the ground floor. While the airship's rotors died down as the engines idled down, teams of people in white coveralls darted around it on either side, attaching fuels hoses and lining up forklifts for the payload to be unloaded. Spike only allowed himself a few seconds before continuing down the catwalk, taking a quick glance at his watch. He couldn't recall if he told Sable that the airship was their first option for getting out of here, but didn't stop to check. Either way, they didn't have time to dawdle. The pair crossed two doorways before coming to a corridor, which after a few descending steps went on a few meters then came to a corner. The sound of friendly banter and an occasional laugh could be heard around said corner once the pair of intruders drew closer. Thankfully, it sounded like the sources weren't moving, which Spike confirmed as he gingerly peaked around the wall's edge. There was no one in the next long corridor, but the voices were coming from a room with an open door a bit further down. It didn't take much to pick up on at least three distinct speech patterns. Attempting to sprint across the doorway without being seen was a bigger risk than silencing the jovial trio within, given there was no indication whether someone had eyes on it or not. The hunter made his homicidal intentions clear to Sable with a quick finger drawn across his throat in a universal symbol, then added two more digits up for a silent countdown. 3...2.... |

Sable quietly followed Spike, making sure to keep as silent as possible. Glancing down, she watched with interest as the white-clad workers unloaded the airship. That could be a good exit plan. They'd left most of their climbing equipment at the dugout, so they'd need another way out of here that didn't involve climbing back down the mountain. Snapping back to reality, Sable made sure to maintain her Zetsu, dulling her presence. If there really weren't any Nen users, Ten would probably be more than enough in a combat situation. The sound of voices halted their progress, as the pair quietly crept towards the doorway. Spike slid his finger across his throat, prompting a nod from the Ravenness. Flexing her muscles, she prepared for the struggle. Three fingers. A bit of adrenaline started coursing through her veins. Two fingers. Deep breath, eyes closed. One. Zero. Sable dashed into the room, hot on Spike's heels. Two of the guards were talking to each other, faced perpendicular to the door. The third was busy rummaging around at a vending machine, though threw in the occasional comment to their conversation. That was problematic, it would've been easier if all three had been clustered together. Looks like they were going to have to made do. The first two were startled, and turned with bewilderment at the two arrivals. With no time to signal, Sable hoped Spike would take the man on the left. Her hair streaming behind her, Sable jumped, catching the man's neck in between her legs. The pair fell heavily, with the man struggling to escape. His neck snapped with one strong twist of her lower body, and she scrambled to her feet, eyes on the third man by the vending machine. By now he had comprehended the situation, and was fumbling for his sidearm. Gathering Ren in her feet, Sable sprinted for the man. If even one bullet escaped that gun, it would alert the whole complex. Just as he clicked off the safety, Sable ripped the gun from his hand and quickly ejected the magazine, and let the loaded bullet spiral out as she pulled back the slide. Tossing it behind her, Sable ducked under the man's clumsy punch and grabbed him in a stranglehold, covering his mouth to keep the noise minimal. "I can snap your neck whenever I want. Keep quiet, and stop struggling if you want to live." The man's struggles subsided, though he was still wide-eyed with terror. Should Spike be done with the third man, Sable would glance over at him. "You fine with using this guy to find the package Alpha?" |

Despite going through everything leading up to this point, it was only when the time came to dispose of some people, that Spike felt an anxious pang in his gut. It hadn't occurred to him earlier, but given Combo was a client it wasn't that big a stretch to think that a few of the guards were people he'd gotten to know personally. He still doubted that any of the Nen users he'd worked with on bodyguard detail were there; however, the regular guards were a different story. The hunter was too much of a professional to pull his punches over former acquaintances or lunch buddies, yet he'd still feel a bit a bad putting them down, even if it'd mostly be quick and painless. Spike pushed his internal conflict aside the moment his count reached zero, bounding into the room with only a few swift strides. The guard on the left barely had time to fix eyes on the white blur before it was upon him. The exclamation rising in the man's throat got silenced in an instant, as the blur materialized into a man and a fist briefly but violently slammed into his throat. Spike's attention went to the third guard before the second had even fallen, the doomed man grasping at his throat and futilely trying to breath with a crushed trachea closing off his lungs. The hunter was about to give the last combatant the same treatment, when Sable handled the situation for him instead, quiet handily in fact. Wasn't as quick and decisive as a powerful punch to the throat, but her methods were overall effective nonetheless. Quick hands allowed him to grab the front of the asphyxiated man's uniform before he collapsed, as well as catch the pistol his partner had tossed behind her in midair. There was no telling who else could be within earshot, so playing it safe was really the only sensible way to go about this. Spike gently lowered the blue faced corpse to the floor absentmindedly, focusing on the pistol instead. "Yes, Beta, proceed. Show me what you can do." He replied softly with a polite cadence, glancing at Sable for a moment before going back to examining the pistol. Spike had only started using firearms fairly recently, finally giving in to the fact that were just so damn convenient. Unfortunately, his last few missions had shown that picking something in a harder hitting caliber would benefit him greatly against the threats he normally faced. Combo always kept his men in top of the line gear, so it wasn't surprising that he'd stocked these guards with some quality firearms as well. This one would make as good a souvenir as anything. Sable nodded an affirmative, turning her full attention to the man she had grasped in a headlock. Hooking a chair with her ankle, she spun it around before throwing her hostage into it. "You're dead the moment you call for help." Releasing her hand from his mouth, she saw an ever so slight urge to call out in his eyes. Blazing her Ren, Sable directed her murderous intent straight towards him. The grunt's eyes widened as it flowed over him, transfixed by the sight before him. A deep, dark fear blossomed within of this woman standing in front of him. Letting her Nen dissipate, Sable could tell he wouldn't be calling for help anytime soon. "278456. Where is it?" The man shook his head silently. Despite the immediate danger in front of him, he knew far worse horrors awaited him if he betrayed Don Combo. Sable's swift punch hit him directly in his throat, leaving him gasping for air. As his jaw dropped to intake oxygen, Sable reached in and ripped out a single front tooth from the top. His scream came out as no more than a sputter, forcing him to draw breath instead. Not allowing him to make noise was her top priority, which was in a way the cruelest action of all. "278456. Tell me when you're ready." Clamping a hand over the man's mouth, she flicked out her blade. Blood and tears stained the floor, with the man's face the shade of a tomato, and seemingly crumpled inward. His breath was ragged, and his throat was raw from the muffled screams he'd been releasing for the past hour. Stepping back, Sable released her hand. His eyes told her that he was finally broken. "278456." The cold statement was repeated once more, only with more of an edge this time. The man's will broke. He knew that betrayal would be worse, but he couldn't take it anymore. He only wanted the pain to stop. "End of the hall...right...down stairs...left...left...inside." The words were barely louder than a mumble. Mucus dripped from his nose as he sniffled in shame, yet he couldn't help but feel relieved to have a break from the terrible pain. A small smile crossed his face right up through the moment Sable snapped his neck. Letting the corpse fall to the floor, she nodded at Spike. "Did you catch that Alpha?" She couldn't help a small hint of satisfaction from creeping through her, satisfied at her success and usefulness to her partner. Relevant Technique

Despite saying he wanted to see what his partner in action, Spike had knelt to pick up the discarded magazine for his new pistol when Sable flared up with murderous intent. The experience was mildly unnerving for him while maintaining zetsu, so he could only imagine how rough it was for that poor bastard with his nodes still closed. With the magazine reinserted, the hunter made sure the safety was on, despite not racking a round in the chamber, then slipped it into the back of his waistband for safe keeping. Spike had to wince when Sable reached in to rip a tooth out of the guard's mouth. Breaking the man's fingers would've been his go to way to grab his attention, but he'd venture getting a tooth forcibly extracted was a more traumatizing experience. Again breaking from his observation, the hunter turned to the vending machine out of curiosity, and noticed the display read some money had already been deposited. It made sense in hindsight, seeing as one of the guards had been in the middle of getting a snack when their death arrived. A few gloved button presses later, a chocolate bar would come ambling forward, then drop down into the withdrawal shoot with a small 'thunk'. After having nothing but gristly stew for what seemed like an eternity, the promise of even a single candy bar was enough to bring a wide grin under the hunter's mask. Having the guard break a second later was just icing on the cake. Incidentally, the light clank of the shoot being opened coincided with his sudden death. "Yep, it was faint, but I got it. Excellent work by the way." Spike congratulated without actually looking at Sable, focusing his eyes on the colorful package in his hands instead. No sooner had he worked the wrapper open, the hunter lifted his mask slightly to take a big bite out of the chocolaty contents, severing the bar just north of the center. Discovering caramel and nuts elevated his enjoyment of the chocolate immensely, just further raising this admittedly mundane moment from pleasurable to unforgettable. When this was all over, Spike made a mental note to buy a whole pallet of these things; calories and detriment to waistline by damned. "Want the other half?" he asked, holding the rest of the bar out to his partner. After that fine bit of torturing, she certainly deserved something to get the taste of mountain ape out of her mouth. Still, he seriously hoped Sable said no for obvious reasons. |

Sable took a careful look at Spike. He seemed unsettled at her interrogation, which annoyed her a little after his specific interest in her abilities. But, she was used to reactions like this, so she simply nodded her thanks at his praise, even if he was just trying to be polite; which was very ironic considering the current situation. It appeared Spike had taken the spare time to grab a snack from the vending machine in the form of a chocolate bar. His offer was far more appealing than the earlier praise, but Sable regrettably turned him down. Her sweet tooth cried out in protest, but she knew that it would only distract her from the task at hand. The pistol in Spike's hand would no doubt come in handy if there was trouble, though she'd prefer to keep this quiet if possible. For a moment, she debated whether or not to lead the way out the door towards their destination, but discarded the errant thought. Spike was her senior, and more experienced in operations such as this. Putting that aside, he was most definitely stronger than her, and had more aura. She'd do better to follow his lead, and learn from him if possible. Of course, for that to happen, he'd need to finish eating his chocolate bar first. Her stomach growling a little, Sable waited patiently for the team leader to finish his snack, trying not to betray any desire for the chocolate on her face. |
