York Shin City -- a bustling metropolis full of life and opportunity. Flashing lights, large crowds, and busy stores occupy the city's interior creating a living, industrialized, biological system giving life to the city. York Shin lives up to its reputation as being the City that Never Sleeps. However, as with all cities, there are many overlooked nooks and crannies throughout the outskirts, well out of the way of the city's bright lights and busy crowds. These remote areas tend to have a bad reputation for shady characters and criminal activity as it's much easier for these types of people to move freely away from the spotlight. The full moon was shining bright, illuminating the lifeless alleys with a silvery glow. It was a cool and placid night. The air was still, the sky was clear, and the surrounding neighborhood eerily silent. "AAAARRRGGGHHH!" A booming roar pierced through the silence and echoed along the rundown buildings in the surrounding area. "You son of a bitch" he yelled through gritted teeth, as he lie on alley floor clutching his knee, "I'll kill you!" A slim, blond-haired young man wearing a tall top hat and purple tailcoat, looking oddly out of place, was standing over the man with his arm outstretched, wielding a hard and thick wooden cane. "You really shouldn't sneak up on someone like that" he said serenely as he tipped his hat. "Is there something I can help you with?" he asked with a smile, as he twirled his cane once before planting it on the pavement and leaning on to it. The man simply glared at him through his sunken eyes, gritting his teeth still. "You Oaknock then are ya?" said a second harsher and deeper voice from behind. The well-hatted young man turned curiously to see a very large, heavily tattooed man with an unkept, bushy beard and long, matted hair. "I am! My name is Oliver Oaknock, the youngest heir to the Oaknock family and the man who will restore his family's name and remind the world that the Oaknocks are the greatest weaponsmiths of all time!" he replied cheerfully. "Are you perhaps a potential customer?" he asked with a polite smile. The man let out a rough, barking laugh, exposing his mouthful of broken yellow teeth. "Yeah, a customer, that's what I am" he said sarcastically through his harsh voice. He pulled out a large club from his jacket that looked like something a troll would use to play baseball with. Suddenly, more men began to creep out from behind nearby buildings and bushes, wielding pipes and knives. There were two men on each side of Oliver, with the large, brutish man in front of him. Oliver frowned now, looking not at his assailants but at the tools they were wielding. "My my, what a sad little collection of scrap metal" he said. "Surely you don't intend to take me on with those" he said, pointing to their weapons. "Yeah, we've been needin' a bit of an upgrade" the man growled with a smirk, "tha's why we came lookin' for you, innit boys?" he continued as the men surrounding Oliver began to cackle and cheer. Oliver sighed and gripped his hat once more. "Very well then" he said, now smiling confidently. "Let's make this quick, gentleman, I've got an important appointment to attend" he said as he twirled his cane and then whipped it still, pointing it at the large man in front of him. Motto was in York New in search of his Hunter’s License. Demyan’s organization wasn’t as easy to find as he thought it would be and after weeks of research, spying on the grand hotel where he first encountered the bastard, and tailing random jerks from the pit fights, the Hunter had no leads whatsoever. Stupid fucking cities and their overpowering stench; noise and disappearing assholes. He’d been feeling sorry for himself at the bar when he overheard a phone call. Someone ordering a girl for the evening. THIS WAS IT. His chance. All he had to do was watch and wait. Write down plate numbers, take pics of faces. Stuff like that. Getting the girl’s scent would be even better, but Motto had to be patient. One thing at a time. Rising from his seat, the Hunter settled his tab and moved out onto the street. The cool air was a refreshing change for the bar’s smoky atmosphere. Motto’s drinks were hitting hard enough to make Zetsu a little difficult, but he managed well enough for the suspect to take no notice of him. Thirty minutes later, the Hunter shifted his weight where he crouched in the shadows. Motto had seen the guy enter the building across the street, but still no car. No taxi. No nothing. Motto hadn’t really planned on what he would do when the girl arrived but he was ready. Aside from the fancy-lookin’ dude and a few middle-aged guys hanging out, the street was quiet. To Motto’s surprise, one of the men suddenly moved to attack the other. Grunting in surprise, Motto tensed up as he processed the situation and readied himself to put an end to it. Before he moved, it was clear the cane carrier had things under control. Motto’s mouth opened in astonishment at the simple, clean way the fancy dude handled things. He was kinda awesome and unusual. And surrounded. Motto’s impressed grin faded quickly as his sharp ears picked up on the conversation. Could the cane dude be associated with Demyan? A weaponsmith made weapons, right? Probably. Whether or not the Oliver Oakguy was in league with Ylva’s former captors didn’t matter at the moment. He was about to get his ass kicked. Motto moved to stand and hesitated. By showing himself, he might ruin his chances of intervening the call girl’s arrival. The sound of laughter reclaimed the Hunter’s focus. Motto could tell that shit was about to go down and with a muttered curse, he got to his feet and redirected his aura outward. “I don’t care who the good guys and bad guys are…” He said in a loud voice as he crossed the street towards the group. “The numbers suck. Back off.” ![]() |
