Alex paid keen attention, trying to deduce the rules of the game. According to the dealer, yellow seemed to be a safe zone. Nothing gained, nothing lost. So why was it that everyone sighed? Was it out of relief, or disappointment? If relief, Alex supposed it could be because nobody lost any money. But it seemed different... Alex snapped to attention as the next man rolled. The die landed on a red nine, and the man groaned. Tough luck buddy. Alex waited for the man to give up his chips, but was confounded. The other two slid the majority of their chips to him. Something's going on here...save it for the end. Remember everything that's going on, and assimilate the information at the end. Alex ceased his efforts to figure out the rules, and focused solely on the information presented. The third man rolled onto a black three, and received the same number of chips from each other man. Both of them looked unhappy at the result. Alex reviewed everything that had happened. Number one: Dodge had rolled his die onto a yellow symbol, with the die having the number four. Nothing had happened as a result. It was safe to assume that the die number didn't matter in that round. Number two: the second man had landed his die on a red nine, with the die number being three. The die number was less than the number on the table, but it's also impossible to get greater than a six. Apparently the act of receiving chips in this instance was negative. For now, he should avoid red numbers. Number three: the third man had rolled onto a black three, and received three black chips from each other player. This was a positive outcome. His die number was five, greater than the table number. Finally, the name of the game: "Conditions". Alex couldn't guess it's significance right now, but he'd do best to keep it in mind. I don't fully understand the rules, but I have a few ideas. Receiving chips was negative, except when the third man received black chips. I don't know the significance of the die number, if any. The name isn't enough to go on. Looks like my only choice is to figure it out as I go. Alex grinned, hoping his luck would hold. "I'm in." He scooped his chips out and took a place at the table. The dealer pushed the die towards him, and Alex gingerly picked it up. Let's see what happens. Shaking his hand, Alex threw the die onto the table. Edited by S1lverScorp1on5, Dec 10 2017, 01:51 PM.

Dodge and the two other identically dressed men watched as Alex rolled. Whether or not he noticed, there was a tension gathering, growing, and reaching it’s climax as the die tipped to it’s final resting place. It had landed on a red two; the number six was facing upward on the cube. In that moment, Alex would feel an incredible surge to his body; as if he was transforming..all of it happening in a matter of three seconds. A powerful feeling flooded the young man’s veins while his heart hammered with a new strength. The change wasn’t noticeable on the outside, but he might gasp at the raw power churning inside him as the three other men winced. Dodge laughed with his eyes closed before turning to Alex. “Nice roll.” Roll 1 Three tall stacks of chips slid to join his tokens from the slot machine. “An excellent start gentlemen, next roller is you Sir.” The dealer pushed the die towards Mr. Beckonsdale. Smiling at Alex, Dodge let the die rattle around in his closed fist for a moment. He knew that his new companion was probably shocked and confused..but feeling especially good as well. Truly it was an excellent start of Alex Snow’s game. Letting go, all eyes watched the red block bounce to land on a black five; with the number four on the die. Another strange sensation would follow; less pronounced and decidedly unpleasant. Dizziness would overtake Alex for two seconds as a small part of his new found strength dwindled slightly, but he was still much stronger than he’d ever been in his entire life. Roll 2 "You just have to give him five of your chips since it's black." Dodge told Alex with a wink. ![]() |

As the die slowly rolled to a halt, Alex felt as if he was struck by a bolt of lightning. Beating faster and faster, Alex felt himself filled with power, far more than ever before. Gasping, he held his hand in front of him. It looked perfectly normal, and yet...he knew that he was far stronger than he had been a few seconds ago. What...the hell? Undoubtedly this was the work of the game, yet how could something like that be accomplished? It was strange, even for Alex, and the vagabond felt the back of his mind stir in a slight sense of foreboding. Something wasn't right here, but Alex doubted they would let him walk away. Glancing around at the table, he caught Dodge's smile. Don't let your suspicions show. Alex clenched his fist together, staring at it intensely. He didn't have to fake this feeling of wonder; if this strength ended up being permanent...Alex chuckled at the thought. Inwardly, however, Alex felt his skin crawl. It was unnatural. Maybe he was wrong, and the game was just that, but Alex doubted it. If that was the case, they would've explained the rules and warned him about this. Best to keep a close guard. Alex watched intently as Dodge rolled the die, and saw it creep to a halt on a black five. When the die stopped moving, Alex felt his head undergo a certain amount of pressure. Rubbing his forehead, Alex shook his head back and forth. It was almost as if his senses had become dulled. His vision seemed a little duller, and his body felt a little clumsier. Alex blinked at Dodge's words, and went to grab five of his black chips. The vagabond forced himself to stop moving, realizing he'd almost bumped over one of his chip stacks with his hand. Even his depth perception was off. Carefully, Alex removed five black chips from the top, and slid them over to Dodge. I don't know what's going on here, but now I'm intrigued. Fine, Mr. Beckonsdale. I'll play your game. Looking up, he locked eyes with Dodge, with an ever so slight smirk on his face. |

“Nicely done, and you, Sir?” The dealer passed the die to the sharp-eyed man. He was incredibly pale and it seemed like he was having difficulty standing. With what seemed like a great deal of effort, he rolled a three on the black seven. Alex wouldn’t notice the others cringe and grip the table’s edge as a terrible draining feeling overwhelmed him. It was the deadliest roll possible in the game. Laughing, the sharp eyed man clapped his hands with a fierce grin as Alex Snow and the two others all experienced a heavy take. It was painful even for Dodge, who’d been doing well over all. Bringing a hand to his temple, the handsome gambler’s weak groan was short and quickly followed by the clearing of his throat. It seemed that Mr. Beckonsdale didn’t wish to be noticed, but his suffering was great. The sleepy–eyed man coughed, and Alex’s vision faded into black. Roll 3 Still coughing the final player rolled the die with obvious desperation: A one on a red ninety. The coughing stopped and Alex’s vision returned in time to see the man fall to the floor. Dodge’s knees buckled and he too went down while the sharp-eyed player ceased his laughter. His nose began bleeding and the dealer moved chips around accordingly; seven chips from everyone’s stacks to the sharp-eyed man, and everyone’s money to the dead player. “Winner Winner, Chicken Dinner.” He announced, signaling for security to fetch the corpse. Final Roll of Game 1 “Your ...roll.” Dodge pulled himself up to stand, his face was pale and sweaty. The other player had cleaned up his nose. Edited by Gon.Pro.Hunter, Dec 12 2017, 04:57 PM.

Alex staggered as the sharp-eyed man rolled the dice, feeling most of his newfound strength disappear, and his vision blur to the point where he could barely see. Alex could just barely hear the noise of clapping hands, and saw the blur of the sharp-eyed man moving his hands. What...is going on? Gripping the table for support, Alex breathed deeply, trying to keep calm. The next roll. Just wait for the next roll. Thunk. Alex heard the die roll across the table, and his vision cleared. He felt the glow of the prior strength surge through his body yet again and sighed in relief. The third crumpled without a sound, with Dodge following close behind. Catching his breath, Alex looked closely at the third man, and felt his chest tighten. The man was dead. His chest was still as a statue, with no rise and fall. Stumbling backwards, he caught the sharp-eyed man dabbing a bloody nose out of the corner of his eye. "Your...roll." Alex looked at Dodge, who was just barely managing to support himself on the table. No way. No way am I sticking around here. Alex turned to run, and the sharp-eyed man seemed to appear in front of him. A heavy hand clapped Alex's shoulder, and he felt Dodge's hot breath in his ear. "Oh no, you can't leave. We're just getting started. The consequences for leaving will be a bit more...severe...than the consequences for losing." Alex heard Dodge lick his lips. "After all...the effects of Nen on the body of a normal person...well, they're best avoided." Alex's heart stopped momentarily, the word echoing in his head. Nen. No...no, no, no. 'Run. You'll die if you try to fight a nen user.' Zorro's words echoed in Alex's head, and his palms became coated in sweat. This can't be happening. He was fucked. Alex was backed into a corner, and he knew it. His only choice now... turning, Alex faced the table. The dealer grinned, seemingly unaffected by the events. "Round 2 gentlemen! Please welcome our new player!" Lee stumbled forward, pushed by two servants. "Wha...what's going on? I quit my job, let me go!" His gaze rested on the piles of money on the table, silencing his pleas. He needed a job. Lee knew that better than anyone. But this was a golden opportunity. He'd never have the funds to win this much normally. "I...I'll play." This was it, this was his big break! His family would never have to worry again if he won all this money! You dumbass. Alex watched with tight lips as the glint of greed appeared in Lee's eyes. The man had no idea what was coming for him. Alex didn't fully understand it himself. All he knew was that this was a death game. He couldn't bring himself to say anything to Lee, fearing that strange power named Nen. "You're up first, Mr. Snow!" The dealer was frankly jovial, beaming at all the members of the game. You piece of shit. Alex wanted nothing more than to beat that dealer until he couldn't let his fat lips flap any longer. He glanced up, glaring at Dodge with murder in his eyes. Catching the die, Alex shook it in his hand, before throwing it onto the table harder than necessary. Its sides turned, stopping with one divot facing up. |

The moment the cube stopped on a black eight with one as it’s face value, Alex would experience another orgasmic surge. It was as if he could see things on a whole new level; the general swirl of casino activity all him seemed to slow down as his vision took in more detail than he thought possible. Cards being shuffled showed their colors and symbols with remarkable clarity, dice on several tables were easy to discern and even the spinning roulette table where a crowd was gathered had distinct markings that he could track with ease. Light glinted from a woman’s earring, Alex could make out it’s individual inset stones. Roll 1 Dodge seemed to be having trouble breathing and lunged for the die as the dealer moved everyone’s chips towards Alex; eight from each one. Mr. Beckonsdale’s trembling fingers barely managed to touch the game piece and it tumbled from his weak hand on a black one. Two was the die’s number. To Alex’s horror, Dodge convulsed violently while his skin became ashen. Foam dribbled from his mouth while another delightful wave of power washed over Alex. It seemed like he had the energy of five men and that he could play this game all night!! The sharp-eyed man had soiled himself in addition to the twin streams of blood oozing from his nose. Roll 2 “Sir, are you able to roll?” The dealer seemed unphased by the man’s lack of response and put the die in the player’s hand. After what seemed like a solid minute, he moved his hand to let the die fall. Six on a black two. Alex’s back arched as more of their aura poured into him, it was enough to make the young man giddy, he could crush them with a single hand if he felt like it. Roll 3 Dodge slipped into unconsciousness while the sharp-eyed man vomited into a nearby plant before collapsing to the floor. Lee, was too busy looking at his own hands to pay attention. He’d felt a terrifying drain on his soul each time the die had been rolled and he couldn’t see his own hands or feel them. Everything was blurry. “Help me! I.. I’ve fallen ill!” He stammered in a small voice. “Your roll Sir.” The dealer reminded in a kind tone as he moved two chips from everyone’s stacks to the sharp-eyed man’s corner. “I.. I..cannot!” Lee cried, “I must go!” The guards blocked his attempt to flee and the poor man looked at Alex as he took up the die. “For Henrietta.” He said solemnly, and let the cube fly. Yellow. Alex shivered, feeling his power grow even further. It was tempting, oh so tempting, to give in and let himself be consumed by it. Yet...Alex didn't want it. It wasn't him. Memories of Sohrab's atrocities flickered through his mind, and Alex shook his head wildly. He didn't want any part of it. He'd had enough of being controlled by something else. Looking up, the table seemed strangely empty. Dodge and the sharp-eyed man were both on the floor, with Lee being the only other still standing. For a moment, Alex was tempted to fight his way out. From what he understood, power was transferred around, meaning that Alex had most of it right now. Surely he could make it, nen or not. Even as he had the thought, Alex felt the dealer's eyes on him. A shiver racked the vagabond's body, and Alex gripped himself tightly. No choice but to play. No choice but to play. Alex repeated the words to himself, hoping only to make it out of the casino alive. Asking for anything more was greedy. As he watched, Dodge and the sharp-eyed man slowly picked themselves up off the floor. Wiping a thin trail of vomit from his mouth, the sharp-eyed man looked terribly ill. However, he was still better off than Dodge, whose skin had turned a sickly grey, eyes shrunken into his skull. Alex couldn't help but feel a small sense of satisfaction at their conditions. Grabbing the due, Alex held it tightly. Double or nothing. Alex released, and the die tumbled to a halt. A single divot gleamed once again. |

“One, one on the black Jack! What was good now turns bla—“ The dealer’s smile twisted into a horrified grimace. As aura pulsed into Alex, his body emitted a bight glow momentarily and he felt sharper than ever. Stronger, faster…better than ever. Roll 1 In less than a second, Alex would notice Lee’s pained expression and the two new corpses as well as the dealer who just barely managed to dodge another casino-goer. The chips slid into disarray as a man in noble fashion stood on the table top, heaving with ragged breaths. He was making a gargling noise, and although his back was turned to Alex, it was clear the gambler was searching for something. Another undignified sound came from the VIP of royal descent room, followed by shattering glass. Should Alex turn to look, he would see a shirtless and haggard gentleman with troublesome marks on his neck and face. There was an animal-like air about him. Something was amiss. Noticing Lee, the shirtless guest opened his mouth to reveal a rotten set of teeth and let loose a vicious growl. He charged at Lee with awkward steps, as if the man had a problem with his joints. ![]() The Kitty Cat's former waiter hadn’t noticed. He was still gripping the table’s edge with a dazed expression. Another half second and the odd marked up gentleman would reach Lee. Three more vacant looking nobles staggered out from the private gambling area as the man leapt off Alex’s table into group of men playing poker. More power, his body filled to the absolute brim. I feel like I'm gonna explode. Alex's body was even vibrating slightly, against his own will. Dodge and the sharp-eyed man crumpled, clearly dead. The waiter seemed to be drained as well, but still breathing. The dealer? As Alex glanced up at him, just in time to catch him dodge another man, who stood on top of their table. Alex's hair stood on end, despite only being able to see the man's back. Something's wrong. Shattering glass caught Alex's attention. Whipping around, he saw more of the strange acting people, including one who was charging directly at the waiter. Crooked teeth, a bestial look in the man's eyes. He was hollow. That waiter is going to die. Alex could tell from the thing's unnatural movements that nothing good was about to happen. Yet...Alex glanced at the dealer. He was almost certain that the dealer was the one using nen, and he'd been warned not to leave the table. Rrrgh. Seeing the dealer on the ground, with a surprised look in his eyes, Alex figured this wasn't part of the game. The thing reached Lee, grabbing the waiter's wrist. Too fast. Alex headed straight for the dealer. If he was the one using nen to give Alex strength, he had to keep him alive. Hauling him to his feet, he heard Lee screaming behind him. Sorry bud, but I don't have time for you. Holding on to the dealer's wrist, Alex made a beeline for the exit to the main casino area. Raaaaagh. One of the things was in their way. Letting out a growl, Alex slammed a right straight into the thing's chest. It flew away at an angle, crashing into a row of slot machines. Unbelievably, it didn't seem to be hurt at all. It immediately rose up, and started stumbling towards them again. "Let's go!" Alex dug in his feet, and ran. Sprinting towards the double doors leading to the main area, Alex skidded to a halt. The doors had slammed shut in his face. You're gonna let us through you sons of... A wave of nen poured through the doors, and Alex felt his knees nearly buckle. His breath came shorter and shorter, and Alex backed away. The creatures steadily made their way towards the duo. The nen user on the other side of the doors sighed in mild exhaustion. He'd been roused quite suddenly from a sleep, and asked to seal the doors with his hatsu. What a bother. As he stood with his hands up, he watched curiously as the large security force stood guard. A small section of them were suiting up in heavy body armor, the other nen users in the force. None of them possessed hatsu, mainly relying on shuu coated bullets. By his count, it would be another hour before they were ready to head in and deal with whatever was inside. What a pain. Yawning, he focused on the doors once more. |

Lighting a cigarette, Igor inhaled and held it; enjoying the first rush of nicotine since his shift started six hours ago. His last shift at the Kitty Cat. Hell, the last of anyone’s shifts at the Kitty Cat. Fuck them all. He blew out his lungful of smoke and proceeded to walk into the darkened streets of Chance town, a small dog snarling at him as he walked by. “You’re going to die tonight.” He said with a shrug to the animal, causing it’s owner to glance up startled and less than pleased. The former bartender maintained his leisurely pace and continued to smoke. A man in a tuxedo rushed past followed by another less formally dressed person, causing a light chuckle from Igor. “Looks like it’s beginning.” He sighed. “Zone alpha contained, sir.” Ejecting his spent round, the security officer awaited orders. The protocols for a bio hazardous event were well underway and the proper channels were informed. Soon the region’s emergency response units would arrive as well as the chemical team and additional enforcement squads. “Nice work sergeant. Let’s keep it that way until the boys get here.” Women shrieked and banged on the main room’s doors as glass shattered and tables were abandoned. A waitress was knocked over and Lee was bitten. He didn’t have a chance to scream out due to the creature’s teeth in his larnax as well as Lee’s state of exhaustion. “MY FUCKING DICE!” The dealer’s desperation made it seem as though he was more in danger without the dice than with the messed up gentleman eating Lee’s throat. “PLEASE I NEED THE DICE!!!” He begged Alex as the chaos unfolded. One female in particular stood out from the panicked throng. She wore a fine gown and walked in a strange manner.
