Theme Song: Rivers in the Desert

Eden took a look at his phone, it is now Wednesday evening, many vendors and shops outside have started to pack up and getting ready to close for the day, but to the Kittycat Casino, the night has only just begun. Eden walked with the client to the door and outside, he watched as the man and his group of bodyguards boarded onto the black car parked outside, and watched as the cars drive off until they disappeared from his field of vision, before letting out a light sigh that he held to himself for the longest time. "Mission" completed at last. His palm patted against his pocket, trying to find his pack of cigarettes but could not find any, after a while, he given up on finding them. It was a short but tense-full mission, and at this point, he just wanted to relax for a bit, so he turned back and walked back into the Kittycat Casino.

The Casino went through some major changes in the last few years, no longer a gentlemen's club, it is now the host of some of the newest gambling equipments and machines. Along with the slot machines, the place also hosts the more traditional gambling games and it employed some of the most skillful dealers and participants. The Casino also had a few resident bars serving drinks and food, as well as the real-life performance of piano, jazz and classical singing. The place was tastefully decorated and it was clear that the new owner put a lot of thoughts into just about every detail of the casino, from the decoration, to the furniture to even the pieces of silverware. The Kittycat Casino is truly a strange place where you can find participation transcending the class barrier, the place attracted both the high society participation and the street gamblers alike, and anyone in between. Stranger still was how the Kittycat opened its arms and welcomed just about anyone, if they dressed part. Walking into the Kittycat Casino was a strange experience. It was like being thrown into a classic movie with its lavishing decors and background music and finding people in exorbitant clothing.

For Eden, however, none of it was any concerns to him. He just needed the noise nearby to drawn out his racing heartbeat, and maybe a drink or two until his breathing returns to normal. It was an entertaining and amusing place, he could spend some time watching "experts" in their poker match until he was ready to leave the place for his next assignment. Eden walked towards the nearest bar and ordered a non-alcoholic drink from the bartender.

There was a round of loud clapping sound, Eden turned to look, it appeared that one of the poker game has just concluded with the losing side angrily stomped out and away from the table. One of the other participants was yelling loudly across the room. "We need another participant or two!! Who's next? Who wants to try this? How about you two?" It looked like he was randomly pointing at people.

Chance Town.

Its crumbling façade made from stone had mostly seen better days, but the natural wear and tear on the city that came from the local stone made her feel much more relaxed than being in a city. Having the Endless Forest nearby wasn’t a bad thing either, but it was the place where she had been captured the first time.

If anything, she was just passing by, trying to find a permanent place to call home.
But her money was running low.

The hospital visit she had after she had interviewed for Motto’s group had cost her an arm and a leg due to not having proof that she was a Hunter; why did all of her assets had to be tied to that license of hers? It didn’t help that she had to break the lease on the apartment as well. The majyuu had come to the decision that an actual house would be a better place to raise a child, especially away from the city.

Packing what little she had, Ylva Haugen decided to travel to various places. The world was her oyster for her and her child to find a home in and she had chosen to stop for a few days in this town. Money was running tight and she needed a temporary job. Taking Hunter missions were out of the question, as per her doctor’s request due to being with child.

The stress of taking on a mission was just not good for her baby.

Even the Hunter’s Association refused to give her a mission when she let it slip that she was pregnant.

So now she was working at one of the many establishments of the town, a place called “The Kitty Cat Casino”. The wolf didn’t really like places like this, but it seemed to have a lot of foot traffic and she was sure the place would be hiring since it just recently opened.
So she had heard from the locals.

Thus, she was waitressing in a somewhat cute little outfit. A small sigh left her, as she looked down at her tummy. It was good that she wasn’t showing a lot. It seemed like most tips were given to really attractive waitresses and she needed tips. Maybe she could apply for a bartender job once she gets the credentials to do so. Making sure her little bow tie was set straight, Ylva decided to hit the floor on her first night working. It looked like a packed house tonight and she hoped that all the training would pay off. It was her first time working in such a field, but she knew she’d get the hang of it sooner rather than later.
Her paycheck depended on it.

Four hours passed and Ylva already felt incredibly tired. People who had these jobs certainly were taken for granted. Never again would she not tip someone for serving her. The majyuu was standing at the bar, waiting for a drink order to be filled for a couple of men playing at one of the Black Jack tables. Turquoise eyes looked at the busy room. Everyone was so lively; they were either jovial, angry, making passes at beautiful women, or just people watching like she was. It certainly had a different air than other places she had experienced. It was right then that a nearby poker table had lost two of their participants and one of the tables members called out to anyone that wanted to join them, even going as far as to point at people.

A laugh left her a she picked up her drink order, making sure that they were what her customers wanted. Huffing, renewed determination filled her as she shouldered her tray and started to head towards the people she was serving. However, the majyuu moved her tray a little too quickly and, not seeing the person beside her, ended up hitting the person’s arm and knocking their drink all over his shirt.

Feeling that she had bumped into something, the majyuu quickly placed her tray down and went to apologize and help them.

“I-I’m so sorry, sir! I should’ve made sure no one was behind me!” the wolf exclaimed loudly as she grabbed some napkins and helped soak up the beverage, “I-I’ll gladly pay to get your shirt cleaned, sir!”

Despite a love of money, Spike had never really been a gambler of anything but his life. Something about spending months or years of hard work to gain revenue only to lose it with a bit of bad luck just didn't sit right with him, especially since one had to consent to taking the risk voluntarily. The hunter had done all manner of daft things and gone on near suicidal missions for even a small boost in his growing fortune, but gambling just seemed like the stupidest thing one could engage in, unless necessity demanded it. All that aside, he LOVED The Kitty Cat Casino!

Spike had visited Chance Town several years ago early in his career for some less than legal reason or another, and decided to check out the nightlife once everything was said and done. Thankfully several locals he talked to recommended the Kitty Cat as the place to definitely check out. That night turned into a memorable one for the hunter, being able to bask in all the good liquor, stunning women and debauchery he could stomach. Well, could afford would be more accurate. He'd been tossed out into the damp streets once his finances ran dry at the end of the night, yet wouldn't trade the experience for anything.

Fast forward a few years later and all the hype Spike had built up while wandering towards the city evaporated the second he saw the Kitty Cat he once knew was dead. Gone were the beauties dancing outside to preview the lavish heaven inside, replaced by a dress code and crystal chandeliers. The sight nearly brought tears to his eyes. Still, it remained looking like the best establishment in town in terms of style and clientele, so the hunter couldn't deny he was curious to see what was inside after the revamp.

It was by accident that he'd arrived to the town early in the day, but Spike was glad after seeing the state of the Kitty Cat that it gave him time to get ready. A bit of searching and a lot of bartering got him a designer tuxedo that caught his eye off the rack for a decent price, along with accessories of equal quality. Another search lead to finding a surprisingly classy hotel to freshen up in and catch up on some rest before what promised to be a big night.

Normally Spike's beanie might as well be a part of his scalp for how rarely he removed it for anything other than sleeping or bathing; however, it just didn't really go with his tux enough to justify donning it like usual. The brown, checkered leather holster containing his new pistol definitely clashed with the ensemble, but he still placed on his belt in the five o'clock position on his right side. Surprisingly, the navy jacket was enough to conceal the outside the waistband holster without any telling outlines, not that he thought any security would attempt to disarm a person of his profession.

The hunter was glad he hadn't needed to use his license to finally enter the casino, preferring not to reveal his line of work unless really necessary. There were too many professional grifters looking to take advantage of folks like him, or rather those less informed than him. Again, sadness and longing hit Spike like a freight train as he confirmed the stripper poles and pulsing EDM were long gone. The scantily clad dealers at the game tables were a nice touch with the new decor, but it just wasn't the same.

Spike was happily reminiscing as he slowly strolled looking around the bustling casino, until something cold and wet hit his chest. He didn't have to look down at the brown splotch currently soaking into his formerly pristine shirt and vest to tell it was bourbon, as the particularly sweet aroma for a whiskey was unmistakable. The hunter only sighed and looked down at the results of his infamous bad luck as the waitress rambled off apologies. It took a few moments for the words to really start sinking in, before recognition flared in his eyes and his head snapped around to confirm his ears didn't deceive him.

"Ylva!?" He shouted, with an expression halfway between confusion and a smile. Without thinking he lunged forward to catch her in a quick embrace, chuckling under his breath at just how he loved to run into her or Motto like this, but hated the trouble their arrival seemed to herald for his life. At least the ruination had been only been focused on his clothes this time around, so far.

Theme Song: Rivers in the Desert

Eden's attention was focused on the poker table next to him and only turned around at the sound of what sounded like people bumping into each other. He turned around and saw someone knocking a few glasses dark blue drink all over someone else's shirt. The tray and the glasses fell down to the floor during this collision and the glasses crushed into pieces the second they hit the floor, scattering pieces of glass and dark stain all over the fancy fur mats beneath their feet.

fancy drink?

Eden brings his gaze back from the floor up to the two standing in front of them again. "Are you two alright?" He was about to go to the two when he noticed someone else rushing towards the two from the other side.

She looks to be a woman in her late 30s to 40s, wearing a more fancy version of the staff's uniform... a shift manager...? he thought. But before anyone has the chance to say anything further, the managerial looking staff pointed a finger at Ylva and almost grind her words from between her teeth in a low whisper. "You...!! Do you have any idea how much this is gonna cost to replace?!....Not to mention knocking a drink over a customer, do you know what this is going to do to our reputation, we don't have that much to fool around!!! I should have known...!! I should have known not to hire you..!" But before she could curse at Ylva further, she suddenly sucks in a large breath and abruptly turned to face Spike instead.

"Oh dear, oh dear! Where are my manners, sir, don't you worry, we will replace your shirt with no cost to you!" She quickly pulled out a handkerchief from her staff uniform and attempted to clean up the stain. "Lisa!" She calls over someone else at the distance. "Please take this gentleman to one of the guest's suite and bring him a complimentary shirt!" With that, she turns to Ylva again, but this time, her expression was almost that of a snarl as she whispered lowly to Ylva. "All of this is going to come out of your paycheck, together to property damage and damage to our reputation...I think it is going to round up to about 20,000,000 Jenni..."

Eden raised an eyebrow at that. He didn't mean to eardrop on the conversation, but that "low whisperer" is nothing to a hunter's hearing capability. His eyes went over to the victim of the incident, and against the better judgment of not blaming the victim, he couldn't help but to convey the message of "why didn't you dodge?" silently over to Spike, and then begin to interrupt the manager before she said anything else.

"Sorry to interrupt, but isn't that a bit much? The mat isn't brand new and it was used as a flooring.." He turned his gaze to Spike's shirt. "How much was the shirt? It shouldn't cost that much."

Ylva stiffened at the voice that greeted her, immediately recognizing it as Spike’s voice.

The last time she saw him was when they had escaped to Jappon together with Motto. That was almost two months ago, but it felt longer. Instantly, she was brought into an embrace by the other and Ylva couldn’t help but stiffen at such contact.

For a moment, the mayjuu had thought that she lost her mind for a second, but she then realized that it really was him. His scent would not lie to her.

“S-Spike?! W-What are you doing here?” she questioned but then pulled away once she spotted the shift manager making her way towards her. Before she could say anything or explain herself, the Hunter was given a tongue lashing by the older woman and Ylva just hung her head in embarrassment and shame. Once a very proud UMA Hunter, the majyuu was now nothing more than an underpaid waitress just trying to get by with a kid on the way.

And now her job was on the line.

Watching as she woman turned to talk to Spike, offering to give him a complimentary shirt, she turned to give her another scolding, going as far as to taking her paycheck for the damages she caused. Ylva finally looked up to the woman, her turquoise eyes wide with disbelief.

“M-Ma’am, I-I wouldn’t have any money to support myself…,” she pleaded, “a-and I really need this job! I promise to do better and work overtime and-“

Suddenly, their conversation was interrupted by quite an attractive young man who seemed to overhear the conversation. It looked as if he was coming to her defense, talking about that she only ruined a mat and the shirt shouldn’t have to cost that much.

"P-Please, sir, y-you don't have to get involved," she whispered. The majyuu was afaird that it might come back on her if someone decided to stick up for her, even if it was the right thing to do. It looked like more people were gathering, curious as to what was going on. The whispering from the onlookers made Ylva’s ears lower on her head as some of their words could be heard by her.

“Pftt…this is why waitresses are paid so low; they can’t even serve drinks right.”

“Didn’t they give her proper training before letting her work?”

“If she was my worker, I’d fire her on the spot!”

“Young people these days certainly don’t know how to work these jobs. It’s so simple! Back in my day, we’d take care of customers like kings!”

The wolf just looked to the ground. Honestly, the Hunter wanted to work as a lounge singer but…management thought she was suited to her current job due to her disclosing that she was pregnant. They said it wouldn’t give off a good image if she started showing while singing on stage so waitress it was.

But…it looked like that job was going to be a thing of the past soon…

Considering the embrace had come suddenly, Spike wasn't surprised for the first few seconds that the hug felt like he was holding a Ylva shaped mannequin aloft instead of the real deal. Hearing her surprised voice brought a devious smirk to his face as he lowered her to the ground, but the arrival of the shift manager ruined his chance to answer her. Honestly, if it had been a man yelling at his friend like this old bat the hunter would've laid his ass out with a punch just on general principle. This was the height of being an unprofessional person in a powerful position in his eyes, degrading your employees like this.

"Don't worry about it." Spike stated in a jovial but dismissive tone at the manager, waving off the approaching Lisa as well, "I'll be fine" Under the pleasant tone he felt like seeing how the horrid woman liked getting verbally lashed by someone in a better position than yourself. Unfortunately, there was no doubt that it would destroy even the slimmest chance that Ylva would keep her job, since she seemed to be her boss' hate sink for the evening.

As the hunter went to again reassure the staff that he was fine and punishment for the accident was unnecessary, the arrival of a second man interrupted his chain of thought and briefly added a viable target to the verbal melee. The look the meddler gave Spike made his face very punchable indeed. "Hey, I know you're trying to help, but listen to the woman." He fired at the good Samaritan, backing up his friend's shaky words. "We don't need your help. I got this."

Despite his reassurances, Spike felt slightly powerless to really sort this problem out in his usual method: throwing money at it. Twenty million was chump change in the grand scheme of things, but without using his bank accounts the tab might as well have been twenty billion. Seeing Ylva's ears lower in obvious sadness and shame was downright heartbreaking, especially after everything she'd suffered up until this point. You'd think just statistically she'd be able to find a job that didn't leave her emotionally abused after leaving York Shin City.

"Ma'am" He addressed the manager in a calm cadence with a small smile. "Like I said before, it's fine. I don't think any of us like making a spectacle like this, so maybe we can just forgot this little incident happened and move on. I'm sure this young woman just got a bit careless while working so hard to achieve the standards of such a fine establishment, and I doubt she'll make the same mistake again with your excellent guidance. You can tell she's really broken up about it."

The hunter punctuated that last point by laying a reassuring hand on his friend's shoulder, then turning back to the target of his flattery. "It is so hard to find help in the service industry so eager to please or attached to their job, so wouldn't it seem a waste to toss aside such a valuable resource like her? I think another chance is in order, you owe it to yourself to attempt giving the girl's skills a bit of polishing."

Theme Song: Rivers in the Desert

Eden folded his arms in front of his chest and stood back to watch the situation as it unfolds. His eyes following the exchange between the three of them, the beautiful waitress's tearful plead and the other guy's attempts at reasoning and he felt a bit uneasy staring at the unmoving gaze of the managerial staff. What was more unsettling to him was that there was noticeably a crowd gathering around them, and if you know anything about arguments and settlements, you would know that things that could have been easily settled are often guided into a more confrontational stage when a crowd of spectators got involved and voiced their opinions. And right now, their opinions are not sounding too friendly...

In Eden's mind, he was pretty sure that the amount that the managerial staff claimed was too high, and she knows it too. He was sure that if the waitress just stood her ground, that the manager was going to back down eventually. However, as they someone attracted a crowd of onlookers and he could hear them talking behind his back, questioning the training or the lack of training that the staffs here got, the staff's qualifications and standards in general, and even going further to question whether Kitty Cat Casino was as good of an establishment as advertised and comparing to other places...when someone compared the Kitty Cat Casino to an older place and said that the other place was better, that was even Eden's heart skipped a beat and he knew that was the deciding moment. He was standing directly across from the management staff and he could see her gaze turned ice cold, if it was cold fury from before, now any sense of temperature is gone from the gaze.

Eden turned to look at behind his back and questioning what in the hell was the other staff doing...why haven't they try to break the crowd yet, and only to find no other staff in sight, makes him wonder what was going on here.

The manager speaks. "Sir...I appreciate your concern, but this is an internal matter, and I ask you to mind your own business and stay out of this." she turned to Eden. "Cleaning spot itself might not worth the price, but the cost came from closing down the entire sector and replacing the entire floor..not to mention." her gaze turned towards Ylva. "The damage to our reputation. I can already see what the rumors are going to be like, the competition is not going to let this chance go by easily. If I let this incident go without the proper punishment, we will never be able to hold our heads up in the gambling world. No...you step into the gambling world, you play by its standard, and any mistake will be punished according to the rules, and this, this is how this world is run. No exception for anyone!" She stared at Ylva's eyes, gaze cold and unmoving like a tome stone. "You know about this when you applied for this job, and I have told you that this place has no spot for a softly like you, and yet, you stayed and didn't leave when I told you to...now you are paying the price. $20,000,000 Jenni, not negotiable, we will let our legal team know about this." She turned her attention to the crowd instead.

"Ladies and Gentlement!" She greeted the room of spectators. "The Kitty Cat Casino is a wonderful establishment, that much I can guarantee you, and there is no better place to enjoy yourself than here! Tonight, although I am ashamed to have you look at this, at our lack of supervision of our staff, it will never happen again! In the meantime, let me put on a show for you instead! As an apology for our misstep." When she finished, she turned to look at Ylva again, this time with a cold smirk. "I know you don't have the money to pay it. So, let's charge you in another way. Put on an entertaining show and play this game of gamble instead, if you win, you will gain more than enough to pay the petty cash, and if you lose...I heard that human organs sell pretty well in the black market..."

Eden frowned deeply at that, and he hated himself for it. This has nothing to do with him and he may as well be another spectator. He doesn't owe Ylva anything, and he has no obligation to help her out whatsoever...And yet...and yet....!

The motion of putting a pregnant woman into this kind of situation, to gamble this large of an amount and even risking their body parts, this was disgusting and unbearable.

Since when did I become such a good person...? I killed people in missions before, and I am not that far off from a killer or a spy, I shouldn't have been able to feel anything from this...and yet, I feel my blood boiling and I just can't stand by and do nothing....This is insane. What am I doing...why am I doing this?

He crunches down on his teeth and told himself to calm down, but he couldn't stop the words that escaped his lips. "I don't think it would be fair for the lady to play this...what kind of gamble? Would she play alone or would she play against someone?" He asked for more clarification.

The manager smiled smugly. "There are 6 players for this game, since she seeks to not only not losing, but win the game for money, she would be competing against the other 5. Winner takes all, loser pays for all. It could be random guests that we have here, or if no one volunteers...Our staff would be more than happy to fill in the roles." She smiled.

Eden frowned. The odds are not looking good right now... He signed. "I can play as well."

The words from the manager made the wolf regain her composure as the woman locked eyes with the mayjuu.

Ylva’s own gaze was stead-fast, holding its own against the woman that was beating her down with mere words. No. She wouldn’t give this woman the pleasure of seeing her squirm. It wasn’t until the woman greeted the gathered crowd and talked about Ylva playing a little game did her resolve falter a bit. It was when the woman stated the terms of if she lost that Ylva placed a hand on her slightly protruding stomach.

Organs? On the black market…?

No, she needed every piece of herself if she was going to have her child.

Or maybe…

They would take her child from her?!

There was no way she’d let anyone near her and her unborn child; she’d fight tooth and nail.

A bit of malicious aura seeped out from her as she turned to the woman but quickly calmed down, her face serious as she looked to the woman. “I know there’s no way out of this unless I play,” she said, coldness echoed in her voice, “so I’ll play, ma’am.” Her eyes immediately looked to Spike, knowing he’d disapprove of her doing something like this.

But it was her time to stick up for herself and take care of her own misgivings, but she wouldn’t stop him if he joined. The one thing, though, that was a setback was the fact that she didn’t know HOW to play ANY of these games that had to do with gambling. It was all new to her, which was why she chose to be either a lounge singer or a waitress. All she knew about gambling is that people somehow always cheat in the end when they win.

Or attempt to win.

Stand straight, Ylva looked to the manager once more, wondering why the woman had picked her organs to be the object to take from her if she lost? It all seemed…very odd to her…

“Do you mind if I ask what game it is going to be and the rules of the game?” Ylva asked, still doing her best to be polite with the woman that, now, was putting two lives in jeopardy. When the other man interjected and said he’d play, Ylva looked to him. Why? Why would he play for her or get involved? To her, it didn’t make sense and she felt that she’d have to owe this man something for doing this.

“I’m…sorry for having involved you in this, sir,” Ylva said quietly to the stranger, her voice gentle but her eyes betrayed in her showing how embarrassed she was about all this. Those eyes then turned to Spike. "Especially you, Spike...I know I've put you through a lot..."

In his typical fashion the second Spike's diplomacy failed he started mentally fishing for a third option to get out of this. Whenever payoffs and sweet talk couldn't solve an issue calling in a favor was normally his next step, but that wasn't gonna work this time around for several reasons. Chiefly among them was that contacting any of the real heavy hitters in the underworld that owned him a favor would both be breaking self-exile and a waste of a favor honestly.

A solid that big was something to call in if Demyan's boys actually 100% knew it was him that helped with the escape; although, Ylva's life was worth more than some solid if it came down to it.

Right as the rude woman was mentioning some game, Spike was running the local criminal element through his mind looking for anyone he trusted enough not to sell him out if he just picked Ylva up and ran at that point. Unfortunately, he had nobody really to fall back on in this area. The hunter let out a long sigh under his breath as he gave up on trying to escape, at least for now, begrudgingly consenting to this high stakes game of chance. In the absolute worst scenario he saw himself seeing if he and Ylva could split the payment to the organ thieves.

A kidney a piece might just cover the fees, and if they made it to a better city he could rustle up a slightly used one for each of them for a complete pair from some shady ex-clients.

"Eh, it's alright. This really isn't your fault. More than anything I'm just glad I decided to hit up the casino tonight." Spike fire back at his friend in a cheerful tone, putting on a reassuring smile for her. "Truth be told, if I hadn't shown up you might not have dropped a drink on anyone, so I think I actually owe you an apology for tonight." He continued, chuckling at himself under his breath. Truth be told, this was a very Motto situation he'd gotten them into.

"I still say you're taking this too far, but count me in. I'll play." The hunter slung at the manager once again, contempt clear in his tone and eyes squinted to drive the point home.

I'm just here to RP

Eden would feel a sharp pain in his neck and experience extreme disorientation as the casino’s staff member addressed the gathering crowd. A hand on his shoulder would guide him backwards into the strong grip of another, and Eden was led away without being noticed. He would find himself in an empty room, bound to a chair sometime later.

“Ah. That’s better. Comfortable?” A kind-voiced man bent over to greet Eden as his sedative wore off. “Just a few questions and off we go. Back to the party in no time at all.”

Meanwhile~

“The game is called “Masters and Slaves”.” The dealer announced in a commanding, showcase-like voice. “Choose a number and the wheel determines your circumstances. You each have one save, an opportunity to switch places with another player’s outcome. Black numerals are masters while the red are slaves. Ladies?” With a flourish the dealer stood to the side to reveal three women.

“Dealer calls six for the man in black, and you Sir? Ma’am?” The dealer nodded to Spike and Ylva.

“We claim four, two, and seven.” One of the three stated cooly. The trio was exceptionally beautiful; all three dressed in edgy tuxedos and grinning in a ominous way.

other players

“Excellent.” The dealer clasped her hands together. “The remaining digits are one, three, and five.” All heads turned to Spike and Ylva. Although Eden was nowhere to be seen, his fate was locked in the moment he agreed to play. This game involved a bit more then the spinning wheel only it hadn’t been disclosed and wouldn’t be unless one tried to withdraw.
