”コーヒー大好き、茶も好き・ 大好きなジャヴァジャイブと私! コーヒーandティーそして ジャヴァandミー アカップカップカップカップカップッポイ!” Koi was singing along the first verse of one of her favorite songs, albeit in a completely different language. It was a thing she did, sing songs in a language she was more familiar with... even if she's only translated the first verse. The song itself? Something about liking coffee, a song that played pretty commonly back at the cafe where she had first... met a certain distasteful someone. Even after getting her issue with his methodology cleared up, it still bugged her. Particularly the fact that she couldn't replicate him. Stupid... hatsu thing. She had to stop and reminisce for a moment then. It was still very recently that she really began to understand the power that her step-brother so willingly tried to KILL her with. And now she shared it. Kinda. A lot of it was complex, and she still didn't fully comprehend what she had learned. Mostly, the technique for it was ingrained into her muscle memory, and was about as innate for her as tensing up her arm, for instance. She really didn't need to understand intricacies for her to use it. Koi liked practical application, and all that junk. But why even discuss this to herself? Or anyone that could possibly be listening? There were more important things at hand! Like this painted woodcarving she managed to haggle for super cheap on the market! She really didn't like this kind of design, but she knew it to be of high quality. High quality because the designs used were the same designs that were tattooed on her BUT that aside, the creator of this carving is legit, and his work sells for a decent price if she can find the right people. Just gotta find the right person to pawn it off to. |

Spike hated a very few, very select group of people: slow drivers, bad tippers and rude exes for example, but finicky business owners were the worst of the worst. He'd only asked the guy to hold the item for half an hour tops while he found a bank to get the cash he needed, and in that time the bastard sold it. Craziest of all, at a lower price than the hunter had talked him down to. Getting frustrated or angry wasn't going to bring him any closer to recovering the item, but it certainly convinced the business owner to describe the buyer without any hassle. Woman, green hair and great legs. Yaacov wasn't Spike's favorite artist by a long shot, yet his art had begun to fetch large sums to the right collectors since his recent death a few months prior. In the time since then the hunter had picked up several original pieces the artist had done early in his career, but alone they weren't worth much more than they'd been bought for. Yaacov's first phase had been categorized by sets of sculptures all revolving around a central theme or idea. Spike had hoped to finally complete the correct set of four he'd assembled, before being so cruelly cheated out of his important purchase. Still, sculpture #3 couldn't have gone far, as long as the woman was really on foot as he'd been told. Spike scanned crowds and looked in shops as he went along, running his options through his head before the real confrontation. He hoped the woman had just bought it as a knickknack without knowing the real history or background. If he was really unlucky and the target turned out to be another collector things could get very expensive really fast. It was days like this that the hunter wished he had fewer scruples, and could just steal it from her without feeling very unprofessional. Sadly, Spike's general practical approach to life hadn't extended to outright thievery yet, unless the effected party deserves it anyway. It was a powerful thirst that finally diverted his attention away from the hunt for a moment, and sent him looking for the nearest shop peddling something cold to drink. Ironically, seconds after breaking off the initial search did the hunter think he saw a mane of green hair against the crowd of people darting about. |

It was very slight, but she felt like... something was nearby. It wasn't anything like her brother's presence, but it had a similar feeling. She shook it off, gently grabbing at her shoulder. Paranoid as always, Koi. Ever since she was backstabbed, she could never really shake off the feeling that it was going to happen again. Even now, kilometers upon kilometers away from Ikura's influence. And yet she felt like she was being held down still. That she was still indebted to someone, or that she was living her life for someone else rather than herself. It was why she hated these organized groups. It's not too different from slavery, even if you're an executive. That's why she was here anyways, to try and break free from every chain that's kept her down for so long. Her full potential in life, or something like that. Ugh, and there it IS again! Too much introspection and deep thinking, it's annoying as hell! She doesn't want to get sidetracked by all of this. In the end it's just cloud talk. Or thoughts. It's better to make practical application and actually get shit done. Koi, you need to relax. Ah, they're selling iced coffee there. That'll do. As she approached the store and purchased her drink, she would begin to start singing again to de-stress. "熱いとアマイ! オットーミスターモット、I'm a coffee gal~! ポット渡す、カップ注ぐ、 アカップカップカップカップカップッポイ~!” |

Spike was the middle of the first step of an excited dash for what he hoped was the green haired woman, when thoughts of past experiences thankfully slowed his advance. He really didn't know much about this woman, other than her hair color and figure, so erring on the side of caution was the only sensible thing to do. The hunter slipped into using Zetsu as he started to stroll towards her this time, really hoping this step was ultimately unneeded for their encounter. If briefly flashed through Spike's mind that from this distance he couldn't actually tell if the mossy mane belonged to a man or a woman, but that became a nonissue as he closed the distance and got a better look. He had to admit, the shopkeeper had been right about those legs. The swanky outfit she sported was a really nice ensemble as well, yet she seemed almost overdressed compared to those around them shopping. The hunter held off on confronting her quite yet for an admittedly stupid reason: he was dying for a drink. Seeing the line she'd be occupying was now empty, Spike sprinted to snag next before someone else with a long order did; the man and his four children that joined the line behind him for example. Sadly, he was forced to interrupt the cashier from listing off the special coffee blends due to time constraints, then just hastily handed them a couple of bills for a bottle of cola. Seeing the target hadn't gone too far, Spike took the time to twist off the cap and take a long sip before getting down to business. "Excuse me? Excuse me, miss? You with the green hair." The hunter called out in a loud, but polite tone above the crowd. "Did you buy a statue just a bit ago? |

She got one of those chocolate coffee blends that she had grown to love. Sweets are a girl's life, after all. Or something like that. Truth be told, she had spent so much of her time recently obsessing over unnatural things. Since birth she had understood she was a slave, and then after she was freed she began to fixate on her nen. So now what? As it turns out, she had known nothing about what.. ordinary people lived like. So now she had begun to explore what a normal life could be like, despite the fact that she could never really settle down in peace like that. In a sense, she envied it. Like that man with all of those children. What kind of life was it, to raise them? In the end, she had chosen a different path, but at the very least, she could share the smaller joys of simple living. Like a good cup of coffee. But her immersion into normalcy was quickly dispelled by a voice. And all of her prior paranoia settled in to plague her. She was right. There was someone tailing her. Something about the statue as well. A mugger? Not likely. They would've tried to steal from her the moment she had let her guard down. Not to mention how she would've easily been able to detect him. This was... a nen user, right? Concealing his aura while she was walking through the city. Now she had a question of even greater concern. But more importantly... what did he want with her loot? Regardless, Koi was not going to respond to this man outright. Something felt off about the whole situation, and she didn't want to have to create a scene here. Unlike this person, she was still clinging to the desire to be normal. Not to stand out. So instead, she stood up and began to walk away, keeping her aura active so that this mystery man could follow her. She was heading towards a more secluded area of the city, a good 10 minute walk of silence as she took her time to enjoy her coffee. |

As Spike watched his words go blatantly ignored and the rude woman rise from her seat he considered just letting her vanish into the crowd, because things were guaranteed to get more complicated than he'd hoped. He could only let out an annoyed groan while watching her just walk away, like he hadn't asked her a simple question a few moments ago. Begrudgingly, the Hunter ventured back into the crowd in slow pursuit of his target. After all, all the time he'd invested in this set would have been for nothing if he didn't collect the last piece. Whiling walking and finishing off his soda, Spike made a point to examine the aura the greenhead seemed to be putting on display front and center. Unless she was holding back to lure him in, it seemed like her aura was only a hair stronger than his. This revelation really was a blessing under the circumstances. The woman was obviously somewhat trained, but she was nothing compared to a few other Nen users he'd run into the last couple of months alone. Although, she might be the most annoying, with that ignoring him crap. It was just so unprofessional. It didn't go unnoticed with the Hunter that she was leading them away from sprawling crowds and prying eyes, but neither did he feel too concerned with the change of scenery. He doubted she had the foresight to set up an ambush, and further doubted it'd be really worth trying to silence or rob him over a single statue. After the first sign that they were alone in an empty block of cityscape, Spike raised his hand to his mouth and let out a piercing whistle as loud as he could muster. "Alright already, we're alone. I assume this is what you wanted? I don't really care either way. Anyway, if you're the right greenhead then you have a statue I'd like to buy. The vendor that sold it to you was holding it for me to get in the first place." The hunter quickly explained, hoping to make this exchange short and sweet. "I'm sure we can negotiate an exchange that will benefit both parties, but first things first: what is your asking price?" |

Koi would finally turn around to face her stalker. No words still, just a blank expression on her face as she slowly finished up her coffee. It was part of her appearance a stoic, but it was also because she needed to size him up. He didn't seem anything special, quite normal really. Nice hair, though. She was kinda jealous of people who could wear normal clothing and look good. In combative terms, she was sure to win. She had the advantage in this exchange, and could likely negotiate more aggressively. Definitely something she was going to abuse in their discussion. Sluuuuuurp. She set down both her coffee and the statue, uncovering it just so Spike could verify that this indeed was the statue he was looking for. Then again, if he was willing to stalk her halfway across the city for this, he was probably already certain that she had it. Koi put her hands on her hips and sighed. "Name's..." Oh, she should use a fake name. Man, that was so weird. Technically Koi is a fake name of her birth name... her mafia name... and now here she was making a fake name for a fake name. It was convoluted and stupid, and it would only be a matter of time before she would have to have thousands of fake personas. Deception and lies is way too much work sometimes.. "Wisteria. I know a couple of rich families that would pay liquid gold for this statue." "Yaacov didn't really sell a lot of his works. Not willingly, anyways. He came from a poor family and kinda had to do small time carvings on the street before his benefactors started commissioning him for the big stuff. By the time he died, carvings like these are usually really in poor state, since the common folk that bought his work initially didn't really know how to preserve these. The fact that this one is almost pristine tells me it may have been one of his last works. Something like that would easily net a few million jenni. Sorry that you got stiffed pal, but I'm trying to make money too." She paused, thinking about something. Staring at the way Spike's aura fluctuated. "But... I might be willing to make an exchange. How 'bout you answer a few questions from me? First off, who are you and what are you doing with one of Yaacov's works? The guy was only really famous in his home country, so you're obviously no novice to this. Second... Why do you know about nen?" Edited by Patricia, Sep 20 2017, 12:55 PM.

The continued silence from his coffee slurping friend was still somewhat working on Spike's impatient nerves, but he understood its purpose: looking him over. He did the same thing all the time, just being on the receiving end this blatantly felt weird. The hunter preferred to make his observations unseen from the shadows before revealing himself, or in this girl's case earlier from a crowd's anonymity and a shroud of Zetsu. Under her scrutiny he just returned her neutral expression with one of his own and crossed his arms until they could get down to business. Spike cracked a tiny smile after finally having his opening question about the statue answered when she placed it before him; although, it quickly faded when the greenhead produced an obviously false name. Truthfully, he couldn't really blame her for not wanting to reveal her name to a stranger, just if she was gonna lie about it one really should have an alias on standby. This slip up, and the fact she didn't mention Yaacov pieces as a set, gave the hunter hope he could still come out on top of this deal. Spike had maintained a blank expression and simply nodded along as he listened to "Wisteria" state her demands, but a wide smirk suddenly spread across his face at the inquiry concerning Nen. He hadn't been expecting that to be one of the questions, or how she specifically phrased it. Asking why he knew Nen, instead of who taught him, just struck the hunter as something a fellow hunter wouldn't likely say. Given that it was still considered forbidden knowledge outside of the Hunter Association, he assumed that she must've learned from a particularly capable criminal or like-minded organization. Being a Nen Genius was also an option, but it wouldn't explain how'd she'd know the proper name without instruction. "Rembrandt, at your service." Spike finally fired back, using an alias usually reserved as a radio call sign working for certain clientele. "We're in the same line of work: making money. Flipping artifacts is kinda my thing, but I've branched out into art dealing lately. Made a killing on some paintings just the other day." He continued, only embellishing his accomplishments a little for the sake of the story. "As for the second question, I'm a man who thirsts for knowledge. I had a friend who dabbled in the ability, so I asked him to share what he knew. Honestly, I was impressed with Nen at first due to a few useful regenerative benefits, but later noted it didn't have too many everyday applications in my experience. I've moved on to more interesting endeavors." The hunter went on, hoping that downplaying his skill could come in handy if Miss Wisteria decided she wanted the statue AND the cash. "I hope that satisfies your curiosity. Now then, I must ask you the same question: Why do you know about Nen? Inquiring minds must know." Edited by Bug in a Bag, Sep 21 2017, 09:06 PM.

Something felt off about Rembrandt's alibi here. For one, it was obvious that he was using a false name. Rembrandt being the name of a foreign painter... and while this guy certainly looked FOREIGN, Rembrandt didn't sound like a native name. Well, it was natural for them to be using false names, just part of the trade, I guess. But there was a bit more to it than that. The way he was bragging about his accomplishments in peddling this shit... really ticked her off. A slight corner of her mouth twitched as she struggled not to clench her jaw. What, was she supposed to fork over this million-billion piece just cause he had more experience? Bloody taut wasn't going to split profits, after all. Moreover... there was his testimony on Nen. Learned it from a friend? That sounded so... off. It's a powerful energy that pushes the limits of mankind... it's not just something you pass around in a friend group like a magazine. Or maybe this was the entitlement of a normal life. Another facet of living a normal life... even Nen becomes more normal for you. Her envy spiked more, becoming ever so malicious. Was he lying about this, just to see how much Koi really knew about the secrets of Nen? Or was this fool that oblivious to the true nature of the world? Maybe this is what Kenneth talked about with these kinds of people. So unknowing about the truth... it was really ticking her off now. "A friend?" She decided to poke at it. "That's a rather casual discovery for Nen, doncha think? Sounds like you either got really lucky or... you got friends in good places." That was another point she had forgotten to bring up to herself. It would make sense for him to learn about nen from a friend if they were Hunters. But why not bring that up in the first place? Wouldn't mentioning that he was part of the Hunter's Association be the largest tool of leverage for negotiations? "As for me... I gained this ability when someone attempted to murder me." Unlike Rembrandt here, Koi wasn't going to hide anything about her ability. To a sense, it was her pride and joy to be able to say that. That she was able to cheat death and become near superhuman as her reward. This would also be able to gauge Rembrandt's full understanding of Nen as well. Would he be shocked at this statement? "Well... I think we can make a deal, though. Not the kind of deal you would've imagined." She grinned as she set the statue aside somewhere further. "It's not every day I get to meet a fellow Nen user. How about a bit of a friendly spar? First to get the other flat on the ground wins the statue. Sounds good?" |

"It's a bit of both really." Spike initially fired back at the questioning of his Nen pedigree, chuckling under his breath at "Wisteria's" seeming annoyance. He couldn't put his finger on it, but subtle shifts in her fave and body language while he'd explained himself spoke volumes. Truth be told, the hunter actually took a bit of perverse pleasure in seeing his financial rivals squirm during deals, and this woman was no exception. It was fun to say the least. Wisteria's own explanation forced Spike to raise a curious eyebrow, because for being "baptized" she came out still looking pretty good. Shortly after he'd opened his nodes the proper way, his master had gone into details about other less safe alternatives they could've gone with; and the frequent loss of limbs and body functions inherent with baptism made it very clear he dodged a bullet. Whoever was trying to kill her seemed like they must've half-assed the attempted, that or she was a lot tougher than she looked. Spike's eyebrow remained high after Wisteria suggested they settle this with violence, but it was quickly joined by a frown and punctuated with a quick sigh. This was the most unprofessional thing he'd ever seen, outside of a few horrors he'd witnessed working for organized crime in the past. Still, grinding her ass into the pavement would be the most uncomplicated and lucrative job he'd taken in a while. Violence wasn't his style, yet he couldn't argue with getting the statue and keeping his money. "Alright, if that's how you want to play this." The hunter rambled off in a dismissive tone, making a show of starting a series of stretches to limber up. While working the kinks out of a few stubborn joints he made a point to scan the area for potential cover and improvised weapons if need be, feeling confident he had everything he needed to win as the routine ended. A moment later Spike settled into a loose orthodox boxing stance, beckoning his opponent forward with a sweep of his right hand and a small smirk. His Nen blossomed from the tranquil flow of Ten to the flaring blaze of Ren as he prepared for their first clash. "Oh yeah, let's make this more interesting; If you lose I'd like to hear your real name. I'll return the favor if the impossible happens, and I end up on the ground." |
