Legacy of Akinzu: The Sink

Posted Image

A plethora of sinkholes found at a considerable distance away from the majority of the other Ziggurat entrances. They appeared after a mysterious explosion from deep below the surface, that seemed to reverberate all the way into the ruins.

...

The Ziggurat and it's endless mysteries! However, now seemingly a shell of its former self, the temple is riddled with strange entrances, including what's been dubbed as 'The Sink'. Absolutely nothing is known about the Sink other than the obvious; multiple sink holes leading into an uncharted area of the Ziggurat. No information is known due to the nature of the sinkholes giving the Sink its name. If an adventurer chooses to use the Sink as a means of entering, they will find no obstacle other than the sand standing in their way, maybe. Creatures have been seen falling into one of the numerous sinks while other creatures have been seen scurrying out. Harmless lizards and insects so far, but there is still no telling if there's more down there, especially considering the varying sizes of some of the sinkholes.

The Sink's origin seems to be related to an explosion from within the depths of the Ziggurat, but the actual origins of the sinkholes is up to speculation. Did animals create the sinkholes before the explosion or did these sinkholes form around an ancient building related to the Ziggurat? The increasing number of question would likely be unsettling to cautious travelers, but probably not so for foolish travelers. After all, adventurers are seen purposefully jumping into a sinkhole yet never returning. Sometimes individuals are seen teaming up by jumping into the same sinkhole, but still no return.

A scream can sometimes be heard after jumping into a sinkholes, but nobody observing the sinkholes cares to mark the sinkhole responsible for the screaming. Entrepreneurs and gamblers from the makeshift bazaar sometimes visit the Sink from, bringing hopeful adventurers with them for peculiar reasons; the gamblers gamble on whether a scream will comes from one sinkhole or another while the entrepreneurs pay for information and the like. Only the gamblers have made any money from their creative exploits while the entrepreneurs continue to be disappointed.

Lance did not want to disturb with an imposing chef so early in his journey within the Ziggurat of Akinzu. However, the chef did notice Lance's aura; a faint wimp before Lance disappeared, but Lance was spotted nonetheless. The chef had prepared with an aura imbued steak fork to parry an incoming attack, though no attack came from the cautious mercenary. The chef was disappointed by Lance's resolve, but the inevitable battle could be saved for later. After all, the chef was a mercenary, too.

"Oui, il vient de partir."

"Je refuse, je préfère le français."

Regardless of the Clean Chef's intentions with Lance in the future, the present for Lance held something different; having switched paths to the other silent path, Lance would find another round of no opposition. Though, just because there was no opposition for Lance doesn't mean the opposition never existed down the second silent path. Lance was either lucky or unlucky in that regard; future friends annihilated whatever occupied this silent path or future enemies did the same. if Lance had picked either of the other paths, perhaps he'd have more luck staying alone through his journey to locate his primary objective. Granted, would Lance's target have kept a path noisy? Lance must know the answer since he so stubbornly stuck with a silent path.

The second silent path lead Lance through a few, obsolete stains of blood, though nothing could compare to the mess the Clean Chef had made. Anyway, the stains of dried blood were aged by a few days. Whatever blazed through this path left only blood behind yet only one noticeable footprint; if Lance possessed tracking skills, he could figure out to whom the footprint belonged. Lance's target? A bodyguard of the target? No telling unless Lance miraculously knew every minute detail of his target. Aside from the single footprint in one of the aged stains of blood, nothing else of note would pass by Lance; only the end of the path awaited Lance which lead to two, 10 meter tall, twin stone doors, blank as blank could be. Where would these twin doors lead Lance?

Mizaki's calm and seemingly non-hostile approach to the Glowing Creature warranted both fear and curiosity from the similar, non-glowing creatures. As described earlier, the Glowing Creature and the surrounding humanoid creatures were nearly skin and bones with stone colored skin. The two major differences between the Glowing Creature and the non-glowing creatures, without taking Nen into consideration, was the mask the Glowing Creatures wore and the serenity exuding from its posture. All the creatures looked starved, but only the Glowing Creature seemed to be able to ignore this fact, looking as though food or anything material did not matter in the slightest.

So, being closer to not only the Glowing Creature but the other humanoid creatures would help Mizaki better understand their behavior; they both feared Mizaki yet were curious of the lone human. Mizaki possessed a healthy, metaphorical glow, similar to the Glowing Creature's literal glow, yet seemed to possess more than just aura. An inkling of the humanoid creatures' beliefs seemed to pop out when they slowly moved up to Mizaki like apes and tried to swipe at the information hunter's clothing. Either clothes of material possessions confused these creatures and Mizaki would need to figure out why, just in case the Glowing Creature harbored similar fears or anxieties.

Though, with how close Mizaki has already gotten to the serene being, the Glowing Creature looked Mizaki's way. If Mizaki focused on the Glowing Creature's eyes, he'd notice the creature's mask make a squinting motion, as if the mask wasn't actually a mask; Gyo was focused into the Glowing Creature's eyes, probably to observe the newcomer on another plane. To the Glowing Creature, Mizaki's aura was odd; not like one of the surrounding creatures, but not quite like the Glowing Creature's aura either. Mizaki was an outlier, for better or for worse. The Glowing Creature decided to act and turned its full attention towards the oddity and held out a single, Nen arm in a 'stop' motion. The aura created arm was completely outstretched, reaching about three feet out, with the fingers closed and pointed up with the palm facing Mizaki. How would Mizaki respond to a demand made by a mysterious creature while other creatures were pawing the information hunter's clothes?
