Legacy of Akinzu: The Sink![]() A plethora of sinkholes found at a considerable distance away from the majority of the other Ziggurat entrances. They appeared after a mysterious explosion from deep below the surface, that seemed to reverberate all the way into the ruins. ... The Ziggurat and it's endless mysteries! However, now seemingly a shell of its former self, the temple is riddled with strange entrances, including what's been dubbed as 'The Sink'. Absolutely nothing is known about the Sink other than the obvious; multiple sink holes leading into an uncharted area of the Ziggurat. No information is known due to the nature of the sinkholes giving the Sink its name. If an adventurer chooses to use the Sink as a means of entering, they will find no obstacle other than the sand standing in their way, maybe. Creatures have been seen falling into one of the numerous sinks while other creatures have been seen scurrying out. Harmless lizards and insects so far, but there is still no telling if there's more down there, especially considering the varying sizes of some of the sinkholes. The Sink's origin seems to be related to an explosion from within the depths of the Ziggurat, but the actual origins of the sinkholes is up to speculation. Did animals create the sinkholes before the explosion or did these sinkholes form around an ancient building related to the Ziggurat? The increasing number of question would likely be unsettling to cautious travelers, but probably not so for foolish travelers. After all, adventurers are seen purposefully jumping into a sinkhole yet never returning. Sometimes individuals are seen teaming up by jumping into the same sinkhole, but still no return. A scream can sometimes be heard after jumping into a sinkholes, but nobody observing the sinkholes cares to mark the sinkhole responsible for the screaming. Entrepreneurs and gamblers from the makeshift bazaar sometimes visit the Sink from, bringing hopeful adventurers with them for peculiar reasons; the gamblers gamble on whether a scream will comes from one sinkhole or another while the entrepreneurs pay for information and the like. Only the gamblers have made any money from their creative exploits while the entrepreneurs continue to be disappointed. OOC: Alrighty then, let's get started! They were just after the worm eggs, after all. Mizaki sighed, watching them walk towards the eggs, and carrying them. Although they might be valuable, each man could only carry one. He had to wonder if more, easier-to-carry loot wouldn't be more valuable than the enormous worm eggs, but he didn't really care. Unless the eggs hatched, which he was, perhaps somewhat irrationally wary of, Mizaki would give them little thought. He understood from the brainless scavengers' commentaries that the eggs were a delicacy and, from the slip, probably worth several tens or even hundreds of thousands of Jenni. However, they need not worry the young hunter would steal their loot. Mizaki was interested in other treasure, and he wasn't keen on being encumbered by the eggs. He counted the eggs around him and estimated that, at most, the lot would be worth a few million Jenni, as the tenor had said, and possibly much less. It was a meager amount to one accostumed to hunters' fortunes, and he had no qualms about ignoring them. And, having seen the worms themselves... he wasn't very much looking forward to savouring their eggs. Mizaki had little patience for the two idiots, and he waited only a few more moments until they started walking. He set a quicker pace, rapidly overtaking them. He wasn't here to be their bodyguard, while they leisurely collected loot. Perhaps one of them would have annotations or map he could borrow? It was unlikely, but now that he had an idea of the general direction where the Great Hall was, assuming they weren't leading him astray, they weren't of much more use to him. Mizaki could find the way himself, and not endure their company for much longer. He couldn't see anything else in the path worthy of interest, aside from junk and broken things. Mizaki doubted any of them would fight him if he simply sprinted and left. He was confident they wouldn't even catch him. And it seemed, from their body language and his own estimates, that it was still a long way towards the Great Hall. "If you try to catch up with me, I'll kill you both. Goodbye.", he them nonchalantly, turning towards them, before he started running comfortably throughout the tunnels, activating his IV vision again. Mizaki didn't really feel bound to his word - he had little intention of keeping it from the start, and yet he was about as coherent as the scavengers. At his pace, which he would slow down to a jog once he got away enough from them and if he weren't pursued, Mizaki could scan the environment for threats and remarkable items, and advance with care. He hoped he could make up for lost time, while, simmultaneously, not by caught unaware by whatever might lurk the shadows that surrounded him... |

The mysterious woman was finally attacked by the hesitant Lance, but there was still no advantage to the mysterious woman; after all, the mysterious woman wasn't what she seemed. The kick to the the location where ribs ought to be located must have felt flat and stiff, as if hitting a solid piece of wood. Regardless of what Lance would feel when kicking, the woman would be sent flying a short distance against the corner behind her, crashing with all of Lance's weight and power against the two walls like a rag doll. Funny enough, 'rag doll' was an apt description of what Lance just kicked; the rags around the woman unraveled and revealed a white, wooden doll with God's Letter (Nen inscriptions) dotting the body of said doll. Any normal person would be shocked to see what just unfolded, but Lance may not be so dumbfounded considering his knowledge of Nen. Upon further inspection, Lance could note how oddly faceless the doll was; how did it speak with Lance or even see? Was the mysterious woman a doll all along or was there more to this than meets the eye? Lance might be able to piece together some information, but without concrete confirmation or knowledge of God's Letters, no further could the mercenary sleuth. Regardless, with the mysterious woman being out of sight, Lance could continue through either one of the four, dark paths. Granted, Lance might want to take the sword held by the mysterious woman or even the rag doll itself as a prize; the sword seemed valuable enough, but the rag doll was just another wooden creation with scribbles, not to mention the shattered torso. Treasure Mizaki became impatient with the long way towards the Great Hall and made a break for his sanity. The two scavengers looked at Mizaki's blurry image and then at each other, bursting out into chuckles and talking to each other. Their amusement was palpable and well defined on their faces; what could possibly be so amusing about their bodyguard breaking their deal and running away? The scavengers seemed to know, but apparently Mizaki didn't. "Hehehe, that fuckin' idiot doesn't know shit." "Haha! Yup, a million times yup." Mizaki would be able to run for a few minutes before seeing the scavengers again; not so odd if the scavengers were quick, which they weren't compared to Mizaki. If Mizaki continued to run away and search for the Great Hall, he'd continue to run into the scavengers time and time again, as if he was stuck in a loop. However, the scavengers saw Mizaki time and time again, so a time loop wasn't the issue. In fact, the scavengers progressively laughed harder if Mizaki continued to run and show up again. "HAHAHA! Come on, fucker! You should stop before you get tired!" "YEAH! HAHA! What he said!" If Mizaki stopped running and stopped to look at the surroundings, he'd find God's Letters (Nen inscriptions) on the floor and walls in the shape of circles and eights or infinity signs. The aura pulsing through this area was oddly strong for something that wasn't alive...maybe. The scavengers would explain if Mizaki stopped and noticed the Nen writing. "So you finally fuckin' noticed, uh? If you can't read God's Letters, then you won't know how to traverse this area and make your way to the Great Hall." "HAHAH- uh, oh, sorry. Erhm, so yeah, what he said; can you read God's Letters per chance?" The high pitched scavenger asked a question out of curiosity rather than any hostile reason; after all, a bodyguard that didn't know how to read God's Letters was actually more useful. If Mizaki could read God's Letters, he'd be able to discern a set of directions and leave the scavengers behind, so a bodyguard not knowing meant keeping the bodyguard on a metaphorical leash; beat up the scavengers and they might lie, stay with the scavengers and you might die from boredom. Both ways seemed rather terrible, so Mizaki better by a great information hunter and know how to read God's Letters. God's Letters

Donning a cowboy accent "Shoot more like quickest foot in the west woowee." he pretended to walk like a cowboy walking taking wide steps waddling his way over and whistled when he got over to the now lifeless body. Still keeping the cowboy accent"Yup I see the problem right here. You ain't made of meat you made of sticks... ohhh whats this? Getting a better look Lance dropped his accent "God's letter's someone a weak baby and they gotta be lurking around here somewhere." Lance wanted to keep himself hidden but the fact that someone already knows who he is made him wonder. He pondered if one of the gentle men up above would be one of the culprits maybe it could be a very real possibility. Using Gyou in his eye he looked around and at the doll if he could see any aura traces left over after scooping the place out with his eye. Looking at the sword the doll dropped Lance picked it up in his hand and twirled it around a bit he gave it a few test wacks in the air before using shuu and cutting up the doll into many pieces before just leaving the sword in the ground. "Just in case they try to get their toy back." Lance then looked ahead at the tunnels and simply got close them continuing on his way get close to the entrance he simply performed En to his max to feel out if anyone was lurking in the tunnels and try to figure out which was the best to go down. |

Mizaki halted, frustrated with how long it was taking him. He felt was if he wasn't moving at all, thinking he'd never get anywhere at this pace. He resisted the urge to punch the two laughing idiots in the face when they started chuckling and talking with one another. What the fuck were they laughing about? He started running again, and was met with the sight of the two scavengers - you got to be kidding me. How, were they even there? He wasn't going too fast, but neither were they that fast. Mizaki felt he had ventured outside of time, into the cyclical eternities of a Borges' essay or story. He stopped for a man to organize his thoughts, and confront the chuckling scavengers; there was no point to continue running mindlessly and tire himself. He stopped, and looked around him. He saw nothing with the IV camera. He turned it off, and used Gyo. Mizaki had the 'a-ha!' moment he was hoping for as the saw the nen inscriptions, or, as they were often dubbed, God's Letters. An oddly strong aura was emanating from the drawings. He turned towards the scavengers, a hint of a smile in his lips. Mizaki was tempted to laugh at the high pitched one's question. He had learned how to read God's Letters little time after he'd been taught how to read - even his hatsu's working principle dealt with nen writing. Tough luck for them - not that many nen users would be proficient enough to read these inscriptions well. He considered, however, whether he should leave them behind, or use them some other way. After all, although they were idiots, they might not be entirely unuseful. He read the directions inscribed in the letters. If they were laughing, he assumed they may know how to read them too. Therefore, they might follow him, and it might be best to deal with them now than later. It meant that he would have to bear their company, but he guessed he could make that sacrifice. He had brought earplugs with him, after all. "Alright, you tell me where to go and I'll stick with you.", he told them, raising both his hands. "If you shut up, I'll stay with you. If I suspect you're lying, I'll kill you. I suppose I could force you to tell me the way, but that would be disagreeable for everyone involved - I'm not to keen on torture myself - and you could lie to me, which would be a drag." They don't know I know - and I may use that to my advantage. "One more of your idiotic laughs, however, and I'll storm off running wherever. So, shut the fuck up, tell me where we need to head to get to the Great Hall and I'll be your bodyguard." |

Lance's pace was meticulous, to say the least, but a cautious pace didn't always mean a quick pace. Up to this point in time, Lance seemed to favor rushing into action and getting the job done as quickly as possible, but now that a Nen enemy has surfaced, other personality traits surfaced within Lance the mercenary. Could the new enemy be an actual enemy though? Well, a sword swing might make the answer the clear, but the mysterious woman knew very well that Lance could have dodged the sword swing. Regardless, the mysterious woman was no longer around, but her impact on Lance was palpable. Anyway, Lance used En to scan the dark pathways in an attempt to measure the danger each path may present in the short future. However, with Lance's En only reaching so far, no potent information presented itself to the mercenary, prompting the original option; picking the pathway at random, more or less. Sudden, animal-like shrieks came from one direction, clanging from another, and silence from the other two paths. Take the path of shrieks, metal clanging, or one of the silent paths? The two scavengers weren't able to laugh all their anxiety out of their system, but just enough to get them moving along again. However, one of the scavengers, the low pitched fellow, didn't like being threatened my Mizaki...again. Mizaki seemed to have a bad habit of threatening people's lives if things didn't go his way, so the scavenger wanted to correct this behavior right then and there, maybe. "Hey! Stop fuckin' threatening out lives all the time! It's getting fuckin' annoying!" "Yeah, you're right! He does threaten us when things seem out of his favor. I wonder if that's why he's been alone up until now." The lone wolf type of dude alright, but how lonely was Mizaki? Could the life threatening be a bluff just to get them to move along or was the hunter more than willing to take the lives of those who didn't cooperate? Mizaki was creating disturbing questions within the scavengers' minds, but nothing was prompted other than swifter movement and more complaining. The scavengers didn't wait for a response from Mizaki and simply continued moving through the Nen filled tunnel network. Granted, they did try to speed things along and take the shorter path towards the Greater Hall. Mizaki would likely notice the shift in behavior, which would likely be embarrassing to the scavengers. |

Mizaki raised an eyebrow menancingly at eruption of nervous laughter that his threat provoked. He let his lips curve into a triumphant smile as they started moving again, at a satisfying pace. Although they walked nearly side by side, he set the pace, subtly asserting his dominance. He had resorted to death threats perhaps too often, as one of the scavengers dared to note aloud. "If you think I'm bluffing, just try me.", he answered, his voice level - no hint of hesitation or overconfidence. He had meant those threats... mostly. He wouldn't kill them unless they posed a threat, but he wouldn't have any qualms about incapacitating them if they hindered his goal. He expected this threat to loom over the two long enough that they wouldn't bother him until they entered the Great Hall. He didn't answer immediately, but let several moments pass until they were already moving again. Mizaki's silence was a weight that carried over to his threat. It signalled, once again that he was in power. An anxious man feels pressed to speak for the silence is awkward for him and he can not bear it - but the truly powerful's silence was never awkward for them. He who understood power understood most of human's relations. And he who could project confidence, could hold the illusion of power. In this case, however, he could afford to break that illusion - he had real power over those two, because he was, in fact, stronger than either of them. Mizaki read the nen inscriptions in the tunnel as they walked through it. It was mostly directions, but there were some whose sense he couldn't decipher, even though he could read. He commited all he could to memory, reckoning it might be useful to him in the future. Mizaki was happy that they were taking the shorter, more direct route to their destination, and that they were moving faster than even before. He could sense that the scavengers were afraid of him, and embarassed of it. Neither made any attempts to decieve him, or even to take a longer route. He had the situation under control... but he couldn't shake the uneasy feeling that emanated from the strong aura trapped in the tunnel network. |

Deciding he had wasted too much time as is Lance decides he wants to actually make some headway. Not really feeling anything with his En he quickly retracted it and decided to hide his presence and save his strength by performing Zetsu. The one thing that the En didn't pick up was sound too which Lance's ears did pick up some spooky noises and Lance decided it would be best to avoid more confrontation. Reaching into a small satchel he brought Lance pulled out a small flashlight and turned it down shining it down the two silent paths. Not really worried what's ahead Lance went down on the most left silent path. Bolting down at an amazing rate Lance was thinking he needed to cover a lot of ground and quick and going down at top speed would make it a quick trip to the site but he does know that it could be a long trip and he doesn't know if he is heading the right way. So it would be best to go as fast as he can so he could finally make it to the site he still has a long journey laid out ahead of him this is only the starting area he hopes to make good ground like this, |

The scavengers didn't waste too much time getting their so called 'bodyguard' to his intended destination, The Great Hall. Only whispers were spoken between the scavengers as they skimmed through scrap and attempted to keep their head attached to their necks. Mizaki was far more bloodthirsty than the two scavengers could have imagined, or perhaps the scavengers were just annoying and unnecessary enough to warrant death. Either which way, Mizaki wasn't one to be trifled with. A few hours passed as the scavengers seemed to take loops and detours, but Mizaki would know based on the nen inscriptions the route called for loops and detours lest they be trapped. Eventually, the scavengers and Mizaki found themselves inside a tunnel-like area lined with makeshift holes for windows. The two scavengers stopped and explained the situation to Mizaki, their awfully kindhearted bodyguard; "Right...so...this is as far we'll fuckin' go. Good luck, fucker." "Right, see you later. We're not getting any closer." Mizaki would likely pop a fuse if he wasn't clever enough to look out of the makeshift windows of the tunnel; the tunnel turned out to be a bridge or overlook from which Mizaki would be able to see two, ten meter tall, stone doors. On these doors looked to be carving telling a vague story lost in translation ages ago, though a top tier archeologist might be able to figure out the story. Regardless, the two large doors likely leading into Mizaki's goal, The Great Hall, weren't the only things that might catch Mizaki's attention; strange, humanoid, seemingly starved, skin and bone creatures lurked near the door. Being as high up as the twin stone doors are tall, Mizaki might not be able to tell exactly what these humanoid creatures are. However, one of these strange creatures stood out like a sore, glowing thumb. The Glowing Creature Unlike the other humanoid creatures, The Glowing Creature had flowing hair, glowing patches of skin, and what looked to be a mask with horns for a face. Some symbols reminiscent of the nen inscriptions Mizaki has seen were tattooed onto The Glowing Creature, though at this point those inscriptions looked more like gibberish. Another noteworthy difference between this creature and the rest was the peace and serenity exuding from the...floating being? The Glowing Creature was floating about half a meter from the ground, as if by magic, but Mizaki would know better upon using Gyo in his eyes; transparent arms surrounded The Glowing Creature, holding the creature up off the ground to mimic floating. Given the situation, Mizaki would likely be too preoccupied with the doors leading to the Great Hall and the creatures seemingly guarding said doors to notice the scavengers had left, probably out of fear for...everything. A good reason to leave, in all honesty; who would be stupid enough to mess with starved, humanoid creatures? One of these creatures seemingly knew Nen, too! Would Mizaki risk getting close or try and find another way into The Great Hall? The scavengers didn't cross the other side of the tunnel-bridge-overlook thing, so perhaps that was the way down the steep, 20 meter drop to the twin door's spacious, 25 meter large, square location. Given Mizaki's previous courses of action, he'd likely push through the creatures and past the doors, if he could. Though, maybe Mizaki would try to look for another way into the Great Hall? The Glowing Creature's Stats Running at full speed for a prolonged period of time has the same effect on all things human - exhaustion. Fortunately for Lance, he wouldn't have to sprint long enough to exhaust himself; about fifty meters after sprinting into one of the silent paths, Lance would see a glowing light at the end of said path. fifty more meters and Lance would find himself in a fifty meter large, cube-like area which would look very familiar to any gourmet nut - an ancient kitchen. Everything inside the ancient kitchen was very square and uniform, likely for easy storage, and looked to be two stories tall. Probably the most spacious yet busy looking kitchen Lance will ever see in his lifetime. Though, a kitchen this large seemed rather silly, but perhaps the Ziggurat housed a community populated enough to warrant such a massive marvel of cooking engineering. Regardless of size, the ancient kitchen wasn't empty or clean; a single, modern looking, gourmet chef seemed to be busy cooking food. The ingredients the oddly clean and modern chef was using were stained with blood like the entirety of the first floor of the massive kitchen. Blood, oddly clean chef, limbs and corpses from various creatures and humanoids littering the area...many flags ought to be raised by the mercenary Lance. The Clean Chef The chef seemed too busy cooking to noticed Lance, but given Lance's experience with oddities, the mercenary would likely keep his distance for the time being until further information could be gathered. Though, whether or not Lance got closer, specks of aura littered the first floor of the kitchen. If Lance felt like looking around to find these patches of aura, he's notice squeaky clean cooking utensils littering the kitchen. Much like The Clean Chef, the utensils were absolutely clean, not a speck of blood or organic material could be seen on the metal cooking tools. Would Lance try to sneak past the chef and into the next room or confront the chef to get answers? The Clean Chef's Stats

Lance looked around the room and quickly decided to just dip out before the chef noticed. Lance was not in the mood for useless fighting either just avoid as much conflict as possible unless it looks like he could win without much strength as such with the doll. Turning himself around Lance decided he'd rather go down the other silent path if he ran into another weird thing he'd simply go down all the other holes to see where they lead. Barreling down the new silent tunnel Lance wondered if there would be another weirdo there in his way he wishes to just get to the place with ease but surely this wild treasure hunt would attract a lot of people. A much weirder crowd would be here a lot of hunters too hope no one would be able to recognize him that would be the worst possible thing that could happen to him a group of hunter who has seen his face on the hunter site and think they could try to take him on that a very real possibility his bounty is pretty sizeable let's hope nobody would notice him and he could sneak his way out of this crazy last wish with a handful of rare jewels and such without much problems. |

As they walked in silence for hours, the hunter was absorbed in his thoughts. He never stopped paying close attention to the two scavengers and their fearful whispering. He'd grown more and more convinced that his threats had had the desired effect, even though he hadn't carried out any of them, but he wasn't careless enough to let his guard down, lest they try something. Mizaki made no signs of impatience at the detours they took - the inscriptions warned of the dangers and traps that awaited those who didn't take them. - even if just a tiny extent of it is true..., he dreamed... and he'd done his research, it was not vague speculation. Although the most conservative experts dismissed the legends as having little more credibility one ought to warrant to any myth, others, albeit showing much reserve upon the veracity of their content (which he, naturally, expected), were very enthusiastic about the possibilities... It was certainly worth investigating, and his skepticism had proven itself excessive plenty of times before. Mizaki nodded at their explanation as they stopped on the windowed tunnel. He told them calmly he understood, that they may go, and thanked, his lips curved in amusement, for their wish of good luck. He might need it, but he wasn't focused on the conversation at all. Immediately upon he (at least temporarily) untangled himself from the scavengers, burstling with excitment he spent several minutes observing the stone doors. He soon realized he was standing on a bridge, but he was more interested on the gigantic doors themselves. They led to The Great Hall, and probably closer to what he sought in the ruins. He read the story carefully, more than once, but he struggled to make any sense of it. It was written in an ancient-tongue he couldn't decipher, and although he recognized or could guess the meaning of a few words, it only led him to form a very vague idea that it was a tale of death and... rebirth? It was more than enough to bring many paleolinguists to an orgasm at once, and many archeologists would be brought to climax from a glance at the intricate carvings of human-looking creatures near the stone doors. Mizaki turned on, once again, his glasses display and carefully took hundreds of photographs, in various angles, of everything of interest he seen, in maximum definiton and adjusting to the lighting. It might yet hold considerable importance in writing the history of the Yehua empire, too oft shrouded in mystery - and, therefore, a record ought to be preserved, even if it costed him some of his battery. He turned it off as soon as he had taken the photos, not wanting to waste any - even though it was yet long before it needed a recharge. A creature stood out, amongst all of the strange ones. It was vaguely humanoid, but it... glowed. It was masked, its hair was fluid, and it had horns resembling a deer's. He was covered sparsely with symbols that looked like God's Letters, but he couldn't understand the writing at all. It irratiated a serene and unsettling aura and, above all it... floated. Mizaki used Gyo at once, and stared at the creature. It was being invisibly lifted into the air by two nen arms. He had taken dozens of photos of it, and even video, to show it from all angles. Mizaki looked at the other creatures - and they were now even more real, even too real, and if they were, they might be guarding the door and not enjoy the prospect of anyone crossing through it. It made him hesitate, and there seemed to be another way down - probably through were his two companions were headed. However, he had only thoughts for the glowing creature. Its sheer aura was... unlike anything that Mizaki had even seen. He was fascinated by it, drawn towards it, not without much apprehension and a very uneasy feeling. It was not the unbelievable amount of nen - he had had the fortune or misfortune of knowing a few nen users whose auras would compare to that of this creature. Although the hunter had no intentions of fighting it, he wanted to get closer to it, and study it. However, he would have to risk the former to achieve the latter. If things went badly, well... a twenty-meter drop wasn't that bad. It was survivable, certainly, without major injuries, if he did things right. With this thought in mind, he advanced towards the door, towards the glowing creature, channeling his curiosity and lack of hostility through his aura. It was the only way he could hope to communicate with the creature, and it might be enough. |
