The sounds of the forest echoed around her as the mayjuu trotted through the tall grass that surrounded the out parts. Shouldering her pack on her back a little, careful not to put too much weight on her left shoulder, Ylva Haugen sighed in blissful relief as she continued her trek, ear and tail shamelessly out in the open as she basked in the warm sunlight. Being in the sun always made her sleepy, but today it made he energized. The lead she had gotten about an abandoned temple nestled in the very thick of forest. It didn’t take long for her to find a way here, and when she traveled on foot the remaining way, she did her best to push herself to get there as fast as she could.

And it had paid off.

Catching her breath for a little while, Ylva decided to slow down her pace. The forest seemed to be thick with foliage. It was better to move slowly so as not to injure herself or anything else. Looking behind her, the wolf mayjuu slipped easily into the woods.

“At least no one’s around,” she said to herself; usually on long journeys she’d start conversations with herself to make her feel less lonely,

“I’m just glad I don’t have to wear my cape; it’s too warm for that.”
Shade from the trees instantly provided coolness from the sun’s rays, but there was no time to rest now. The she-wolf was certain that she’d happen upon the abandon temple sooner rather than later. As she continued her search, Ylva couldn’t help but wonder what kind of people used to be here. Was it mayjuu like her or had it been inhabited by human? Or… other things?

Soon enough she’d find out, that was what she liked to believe at least.

Ears twitching slightly, Ylva looked in the direction of the sound, but noticed that it was just a deer grazing further off in the woods. The wolf would've flicked her tail in irritation from being overly sensitive to noises, but it was still. Feeling her tail not move made the wolf's demeanor change to one of sadness, but only for a bit. Pushing those thoughts away, she continued on her way and onto another train of thought.

The forests she usually frequented ended up having people in them when she was there so she had hoped it wasn’t another human just “traveling”. Stepping over a fallen tree, the mayjuu decided to sing for a little bit, hoping to lift up her mood as she continued on.

“Wandering child of the earth
Do you know just how much you're worth?
You have walked this path since your birth
You were destined for more.."

"There are those who'll tell you you're wrong
They will try to silence your song
But right here is where you belong
So don't search anymore …”

She continued to sing, the sun setting as she trekked the terrain and soon noticed the moss covered tombstones that seemed to blend into the foliage around her. If she hadn’t been paying attention, the Hunter would’ve definitely tripped. Her song trailed off a she quietly looked at everything around her.

“I’m getting close…,” she muttered to herself, but then stiffened as she heard footsteps. Tail bristling and ears lying flat, Ylva instinctively dashed off toward the biggest tombstone and crouched down low. The mayjuu used Zestu to conceal her presence as she wondered who else was out here, in the middle of nowhere, and happened to be IN THE EXACT same place she was going to? It couldn’t be coincidence, couldn’t? Was someone else tracking or following her??

Gilgamesh waltzed through the forest, Smartphone in hand, he felt at home in the wilderness having spent most of his formative years out in the middle of no where with his parents on archaeological digs and the likes and was confident he could find his way through the vast wooded expanse without having to look down. He was currently watching a video of a bunch of animals failing and let out a loud boisterous laugh at almost each and every one of them. This was a good time for him, looking for some long abandoned temple in need of some restoration another grand adventure in the making, there was nothing better in the world.

"Look at that! Three times! THREE TIMES that cat tried to make it onto the fridge! I thought they were supposed to excel at that kind of thing!" The Hunter looked at his shoulder at the very confused looking bird that was perched upon it. The bird had come to Gil while he was eating lunch and the giant was more than happy to share it with his new feathered friend. While Gilgamesh found humans like himself to be fascinating unless he was fighting with the brawler found them to be draining and full of drama so with the exception of a select few he preferred the company of creatures of all kinds.

The large bird squawked in response and the archaeologist shook his head "Bah, you don't know anything I bet you've never even seen a cat in your entire life! Does this place even have cats? " Gilgamesh had no idea what the bird had said or if the bird actually said anything at all, he filled in the blanks for his little buddy. "Maybe you have lions or tigers but not little house c-" Gilgamesh let out another howl of laughter as a bird tried to carry a large fish out of the water only to fall in due to the weight. The bird squawked again "Now that was funny! I mean I doubt you'd be weak enough to let that happen but just goes to show you don't bite off more than you can chew" The Hunter eventually looked back at the bird and noticed it staring off into the distance, there were tombstones up ahead.

Jackpot.

As the large man made his way over to what he could only assume was a graveyard his new avian accompaniment took off into the air and out of sight "Dueces little man, see you around" He didn't bother waving, the bird wouldn't see him and he had found something far more interesting. As soon as Gil arrived at the edge of the cemetery he began looking at the stones trying to figure out if he could read the language "Let's see, what could you be hiding " As he brushed vines and weeds away from the stones Gilgamesh's excitement soon faded, the stones in their current state were unreadable. "Didn't want to know the dead men's names anyway" Gil huffed almost as if he were pouting if not for the giant grin on the giants face.

After a few minutes of searching the area Gilgamesh eventually sat down against one of the tombstones and dragged a large bottle of liquor from his bag. Quickly unscrewing the top he held it up and moved it around "Hope you don't mind drinking with me" He bellowed before taking a large swig from the bottle "Some for me" He then tipped the bottle over and poured a little onto the ground "Aaaaannnnndddd Some for you, cheers" The large hunter let out another deafening laugh as he took another drink, he knew this would be a great adventure.

Ylva kept low to the ground while hastily pulling her cloak around her and her hood up and over her ears to conceal them. It was never a bad idea to be cautious in times like these. As soon as the wolf situated herself, the sound of booming laughter reached her sensitive ears and she couldn’t help but wince a little. Peering out from behind the gravestone, Ylva’s bright turquoise eyes widened at a large man, a man larger than any other she’d ever seen before, just strolling through the forest and laughing loudly.

If anything, it was completely alarming for someone that was as small as Ylva. And especially if it was a human…or….was he a giant? She’d only heard of giants in fairytales, but if someone like herself could exist then there was a high possibility that he was indeed a giant. His height scared the daylights out of her, but it was the muscles that really frightened her. He wasn’t just tall; he had a lot of mass.

Shit.

This wasn’t good; there’s no way he could frighten him off (not like she would anyway). It was then that Ylva noticed him taking interest in the gravestones. Quickly she ducked so he couldn’t see her, but she definitely felt his footsteps and heard them. The mayjuu quickly curled up behind the headstone, shaking a bit as she heard the steps coming closer. He stopped at the exact headstone she was at but seemed peeved that there wasn’t a name on it. Instead, the large man sat down and poured….something onto the grass? The sound of liquid hitting the grass made her curious to see what it was, but she knew better than to turn around.

If anything, Ylva had to make a silent get-away before he knew she was lurking around here.

Gently, the Hunter started to crawl out from behind the headstone and make her way towards the supposed temple, ignoring the searing pain in her shoulder….but luck was not on her side today.

As she hurried along the wolf didn’t notice the abundance of tree roots nearby and ended up face planting right into the ground with a hard SMACK!

That action was HIGHLY embarrassing and she stayed still, hoping the man didn't take notice.

The trees above Gilgamesh glistened as the giants eyes followed them to their peaks. The trees seemed to rise ever upwards shrouding his drinking spot and nearly the entire graveyard in shadows. Gil took another swig from his bottle before taking his phone out once again to watch some more videos. This was a nice spot for Gil, it was quiet and peaceful and he had felt a need to relax before continuing ahead into the unknown dangers that could possibly lie ahead. It was his parents that had drilled into him the need to stop and smell the roses or in this case, tombstones. As grim as that seemed Gilgamesh truly wouldn't have it any other way this was the path his life had taken him and he was more than happy to see it to its end.

The hunter was quickly pulled out of his little day dream by faint rustling of leaves followed by a loud thud before he could even turn around to investigate the sound. Curiously Gilgamesh turned his head to investigate the source of the disturbance. There appeared to be a small girl face down on the ground covered in a cloak with a tail sticking out the back. The scene sent the large man once again into a fit of laughter that echoed throughout the forest. This laughter went on for longer than anyone would expect and even when he had calmed down a chuckle or two would escape his lips every now and again. After Gil had finished he switched to his phones front facing camera, he then made a a peace sign with his two fingers and it to his right eye. Making sure that the fallen creature in back of him was mostly in frame he snapped the picture "This is one for my book!" He chortled as he put his phone away.

After the picture was secured Gilgamesh figured he should probably make sure the creature wasn't actually hurt. He slide over next to the fallen figure giving it a proper once over now that he was towering over it. The being was small, extremely small next to Gilgamesh but he figured that it would be about proper height for a young boy or girl though their gender was hard to make out due to the large cloak covering their entire body. With one quick move the Black-list Hunter removed the small creature's hood only to be greeted by another surprise: Wolf ears peeking through long dark hair. "Well, I'll be damned aren't you beautiful." His tone had softened and quieted from the Jagged, booming voice he had been using earlier. "I thought your kind had gone extinct or at least stopped leaving the Dark Continent"

To be fair he wasn't one hundred percent sure he knew exactly what species the girl belonged to but if he were to hazard a guess she was from the mythical race of advisers to ancient kingdoms a race once thought to be gods in some peoples eyes. To see one before him was a once in a life time opportunity but first he had to be sure that this wasn't some young kid lost in the woods cosplaying. With a gentle tug on the girl's ears he began to speak once more "These things actually real? You're not playing dress up or somethin' right?"

Laughter booming from the large man made the mayjuu’s ears lower in embarrassment.
It looked like he had taken notice but was irked her more was the fact that he didn’t see if she needed help. Not that she was trying to get his attention anyway; far from it! It was only common curtesy to help someone of they fall! Be that as it may, Ylva continued to just lie on the ground, hoping he’d lose interest in her and just….walk away? Disappear? Both options were highly favorable, in her opinion. Ears twitched to the sound of something clicking, but she wasn’t brave enough to see what that was all about, plus he was making his way over to her! Scared, her body started to shake as she waited for whatever was to come. Feeling her hood being removed, Ylva felt her heart stop in her chest.

The comment that came from the man made her blink as color flooded her cheeks.

‘He…said I was beautiful?’ she thought as he heart raced a mile a minute. It wasn’t until the man mentioned her kind being extinct or stopped leaving from some place called the Dark Continent that her eyes lit up.

This man…knew of her kind?! About to get up and be in a more presentable position, the wolf mayjuu stiffened as the behemoth of a man tug on her sensitive ears.

“Nghh! P-Please don’t d-d-do that they’re really sensitive!” she pleaded with the other as she slowly sat up. Upon touching her ears, he’s noticed that they were indeed real due to being warm and instantly flattening in the man’s hands. Her tail would've been wagging vigorously due to frustration and fear, in that moment as Ylva tried her best to sit up but the wolf wasn’t having any luck.

“Y-You’re n-not a giant, right? P-Please don’t eat me…I-I wouldn’t taste good,” she muttered quietly as she looked over her shoulder with those brilliantly colored eyes of hers paired with her flushed cheeks, “I-I’ll bite you i-if you try to eat me or harm me!”

The small wolf did her best to come off as intimidating, even giving her best growl to accentuate the point, but the wolf was sure that it would fail on the other.

He was massive; a little wolf such as herself wouldn’t be able to scare any fear into him. At least, that was what she thought..

Gilgamesh stared at her for a good minute after she spoke his face completely void of emotion, his crimson eyes not even blinking. The large Hunter did not anticipate that such a mythical creature would be so afraid. All of the stories he had read and legends he was told prepared him for a reverent being one who could stand above all else and see truth as per their myth. Instead what Gil had gotten was a little girl shaking in her boots in fear and, he didn't actually want to believe this part: Growling at him. The blank look on the man's face was slowly replaced with obvious confusion as he tried to make sense of the scene before him. "Are...You...Serious?" Was the only sentence Gilgamesh could get out before he once again erupted into a roar of laughter.

The laughter ended as he stretched his hand out gently placing it on the Holy Wolf's head, giving it a gentle rub. The girl was Legit, her ears were completely real and while she might not have the composure of her ancestors she was still one of them. You can relax kid I ate something twice your size for lunch so I'll be good for a few more hours" The grin that had appeared on him since the laughter never seemed to fade. "'sides I doubt you'd make a very good mean, probably mostly just skin and bones" The hunter gave the small she-wolf another pat on the head before removing his hand, fishing around for his bottle.

Another swig before continuing.

"I'm a Hunter, I've been searching for an abandoned temple around here since I heard about it two days ago" He had intentionally left answering the giant question out on purpose and nodded to the edges of the temple "Looks like I got lucky and found it already" The expression on Gil's face showed he was pleased with the recent discovery but his inquisitive gaze revealed he was far more interested in the girl in front of him.

"Two Questions for ya, kid"

He looked down at her menacingly, he would never do anything to harm the person in front of him but he saw no reason not to mess with the girl a little. The giant slammed one hand down on the ground as he stood up and began to make his way back to his bag. "First, what's a pretty lil' thing such as yourself doing out in the middle of these woods, it's dangerous you know" Gilgamesh snatched his bag up and quickly returned to the fallen she-wolf "All sorts of creatures would gladly make a meal out of you so you better have a damned good reason to be wandering on your lonesome"

One large hand of the Hunter was quickly shoved into his bag as he spoke again "Now, the second question" His tone was somber and his face was solemn, if only for a second "Would you like to have a drink with me?" With that he quickly pulled out two small glasses and held up the bottle with another hand, a large goofy grin on his face "Least I could do for scarin' ya"

As the wolf sat up, she was greeted with laughter at her attempt to ward of the other. If anything it was to be expected; she was small compared to him and she was sure that he could squash her easily if her wanted to.

The wolf gave the other a glare as she finally composed herself in presentable manner, not really liking that he could just laugh at her like that.

“Why do you laugh at me? I’m being serious,” she muttered low. At the very least, he wasn’t attacking her or being cruel physically to her. A pain shot through her shoulder, making the mayjuu wince a bit. Her shoulder was acting up again and she needed medicine for the pain. That dumb trip up she had just a while ago didn’t help matter either. Taken out of her thoughts by the other speaking and patting her head, Ylva looked to the other with wide eyes when he announced that she had eaten something bigger than her.

It was believable, that’s for sure.

He patted her head once more, making the wolf flush a bit from embarrassment due to not being used to something like that from complete strangers. She shied away from the touch and shook her head a bit. Pulling her hood over her head, bright turquoise watched as the other took out a bottle and drank from it. This human was very strange….and she had never seen a bottle like that before. Did it contain water?

The large man started to discuss why he was here and it seemed they were there for the same reasons: to find the abandoned temple and explore it. Of course, her goal was to find something that would her find out where she came from. A light when off in her head; he had said something about ‘her kind’ when he was giving her a once over.

Did….that mean he knew about a race of mayjuu that was just like her? She had to know and hopefully he knew more about that race than the information she found together with her friend Jacob.

She had to ask this man.

Soon enough, his gaze settled on her once more and she stiffened. It was then that he looked down at her with a terrifying look and Ylva quickly turned her gaze to the ground. If her tail could move, it would’ve tucked itself into her lap or between her legs but…a previous encounter with a vicious Nen user had rendered her tail immobile and also permanently injured her shoulder, hence the pain.

He questioned her about why she was out here alone, even going as far as saying that she was dangerous to be out here. A bit of her own prided pushed her to looked up at the other and give him another glare.

“I am perfectly fine on my own, thank you very much,” she stated plainly to him, “I happen to be a Hunter as well and I am here to explore the temple to find out where I come from.” Ylva cleared her throat a littler before continuing on. “You seem…to know what I am when you stated that you had thought ‘my kind’ had gone extinct or…stopped leaving the Dark Continent? What does that mean? You…can you…tell me more about that, please?”

Hopefully she didn’t sound too desperate for such information, but…it was certainly the biggest lead, besides her friend Jacob’s lead, she ever had.

When the other talked about his second question to her, to “drink” with him, the mayjuu was confused. He…wanted to drink more stuff out of that bottle?

“You…want me to drink what’s in the bottle? Is it…water? Juice?” she inquired, tilting her head as she looked at the small glasses with curiosity. Pain flared in her shoulder again and Ylva gripped it a little with her good hand.

“I-If you have water, I’ll take that,” she muttered quietly, “I…have to take some with my medicine.”

Gilgamesh began to pour the contents of his bottle into the cups, filling them almost to the brim "It's much better than water, it's whiskey!" He shoved the glass into the girls hand, grinning a big goofy grin "That'll make the pain go away, Physical, mental or emotional Whiskey helps solve all those problems!" The Hunter let out a little chuckle and clinked his glass to the girls "Cheers kid" And without further interruption he knocked back his glass and drained it in one go. The drink gave time to think about the girls request and it was obvious to almost anyone that the she-wolf knew next to nothing about her species he would hazard a guess to say she probably didn't know anything about her own family.

"Don't know if I can tell you much, you're race is ancient for one, renown in the kingdom's of old for their wisdom and guidance." He looked down at her "Kings were considered blessed by the gods if they were to meet such a being. Hell, in the more rural,
farming towns your kind WERE considered gods
" He let out a chuckled as he refilled his glass "Gods of the harvest I believe, festivals were thrown in your honor in hopes of bountiful harvests" He gave the young girl a wink "Some even went so far to say that if you caught one they had to grant you a wish."

The playful features on Gilgamesh's face turned solemn as he took a small sip "And then people decided they didn't need you folks and that was the last bit of text I've ever read about the Mac Tire Naofa" He sighed "Either human's killed off your ancestors entirely and the ones left alive are on the dark continent...Or your kind isn't extinct and you may or may not be the last of your kind outside of that scary place." He gave the girl a consoling smile before speaking once again.

"The Dark Continent...It is a world outside of our own it is beyond any of the continents. It is said that it houses the strongest monsters in existence...and might be the cradle of humanity" The Hunter shrugged and finished his glass "No one really knows since we aren't allowed to go, it is said no one who goes there comes back alive so...If you're looking for your family, I'd suggest giving up, no point in throwing away your life."

As a consolation smile washed across his face Gilgamesh poured the girl a new glass assuming she had finished her first one. "Sorry that I have to be the bearer of shit news I know it is probably not something you want to hear" He sighed and continued, the tone in his voice more upbeat "Buuuuutttt that doesn't mean you can't find new family, create one on your own that will help you on your journey, hell I'd be the first to sign up, sounds like one hell of an adventure" He raised his glass again back to his old self "So, here's to a budding new adventure kid!"

“W-Whiskey? I’ve…never had that before; is it like punch?” the wolf questioned as she took the glass in her right and held it to her. Her ears twitched at the mention of making the physical pain going away. Will it really help her shoulder and tail feel better? Sniffing the drink a little, she sneezed slightly before drinking half the glass. The instantaneous burning sensation caught the wolf off-guard and a coughing fit ensued.

Holding back a bit of tears from her throat being irriated, the wolf drank the rest, thinking it would be rude to leave the “whiskey” in the glass. It probably took time for it to work on her injuries, so Ylva sat back and listened to the other speak. He certainly knew more than Jacob did about her kind. Turquoise eyes shined brightly as the young mayjuu absorbed all the information this man had to offer her. Apparently she was called a ‘Mac Tire Naofa’ and they were treated nice by the kings of old and even people out in rural communities. Festivals were held in their honor but it looked like people didn’t want them around or went back to the place called “The Dark Continent” or….were killed off.

Ylva hoped it wasn’t the latter.

“I….I never knew any of this,” she said as she looked to the ground, “my parents….they were humans and raised me while I was a baby but told me that I wasn’t truly theirs when I was older. They had found me on their door step in a ragged basket…”

To think that her kind had been so important in peoples’ lives and now…she could be the only one left.

The Dark Continent; that place seemed scary, from what the large Hunter told her. Maybe she was the last one alive from that place…and there was no need for her to continue on her search but…someone birthed her so maybe… there was hope of finding another, such as herself, alive.

The mayjuu was pulled from her thoughts as she heard the man suggest that she create a new family. But…how did one go about doing something like that? Seeing him pour her another glass, the wolf sighed softly as she muddled over all this new information.

A small wave of warmth came over her as she contemplated asking him another question. Why were her cheeks so warm? But it wasn’t her cheeks; everything felt warm.

“Hmm…I guess making my own family wouldn’t be bad,” she mused softly as she sipped at the glass and tried not to cough from the taste and sensation, “y-you’re very knowledgeable, sir…do…do you know something that…that can heal serious injuries?”

Her left hand gently went to touch her tail. A dulled shock of pain traveled up her spine as she ran her fingers through the fur there, but the tail still didn’t move. The wolf could live with an injured shoulder but her tail….her tail was precious to her. It hadn’t moved since she engaged that dreadful woman in battle; only ever quivering slightly at the tip.

Quickly her ears stood alert as she finally realized something; she hadn’t introduced herself! How Rude of her! Very, very rude!

“Ah!! I’m…mm…I’m sorry that I haadn’t …I hand NOT shared my name with yooouu Mr.,” she said, but her words were starting to slurr a little. Shaking her head a bit, not having alcohol in her life up unitl this point and knowing its dizzying effects, Ylva swayed a bit before placing her left hand over her heart.

“I..am….I am Ylva Haugeeen,” her voice was slightly louder but she ended up scaring herself and lowering her volume and then smiling in giddy manner, “aaaaand! I am NOT a Kiid! I am….I am all of tweeeenty-two years of age!”

Gilgamesh's face lit up as the young wolf-girl downed half the glass in one go "Shit kid! You ever drink before!" He laughed and slapped his leg as the coughing fit ensued soon after letting him know it was the exact opposite. The Hunter was elated to find a drinking companion so far out into the middle of no where even if they were a newbie. "Yeah, it's got a nice kick to it, makes you know that you're drinking the good stuff." Gil was telling the truth, this was a bottle of whiskey recovered from a burnt out mansion of a long over thrown government on the Esanian Continent.

As the large man listened he tried to make sense of how a unique girl such as herself wouldn't have figured out that she was adopted sooner but decided it would be better if he didn't ask.

He waved off the idea with one hand and as he took another drink he finally felt a flash of warmth come over him as the alcohol began to kick in. He looked down at the girl as she talked about curing her wounds.

"You mean...Like a doctor?" He raised an eyebrow at her as he continued the sentence "It depends on what's hurting and how you got hurt." Gil set the large bottle down trying to figure out how to explain it all. "There are Nen healers who are probably the best in the world but they come with a heavy price tag and it's not always money"

Gilgamesh shrugged "Can't help you much there, I heal pretty damn fast, never needed much help in that regard" He wished he could help the girl, he really did. Alas Doctors and Medicine men were not his strong suit, people weren't his strong suit.

As they continued to drink Gil started to notice the poor little light weight was getting drunk, fast. His suspicions were confirmed when she shouted at him about forgetting to introduce herself. This brought fourth another loud laugh as she then shouted her name at him "Ylva, Lovely name!"

Crimson eyes met teal as he grabbed on of her hands to shake it "My name is Gilgamesh, It is a pleasure to meet you YOUNG LADY" He let out another laugh as he drove her point home. Her age did surprise him, he was almost certain she was a teenager and not three years his junior.

With the introductions over, he stood up and packed the bottle after pouring the drunk she-wolf one final drink. "Alright, Now that we have a good buzz going let's see what this temple is all about!" With one arm he attempted to scoop the girl up and place her onto her feet "Upsie daisy! Let's get this show on the road!"

There was excitement in the air as the giant prepared to enter the temple. He was certainly more sober than his slurring companion but he was buzzed beyond a doubt and feeling it more every passing minute. While Gilgamesh would prefer a nice quiet afternoon with his new companion enjoying some nice booze and an ancient temple he was itching for a fight now. The Hunter silently hoped that they wouldn't be along in their adventure, that some mystical guardian or magical beast or even grave robbers would get in his way and give him a reason to cut loose.

He doubted he could say the same for his companion
