Motto was dumbfounded. Of course “Hunter” meant “Good Guy”! Hunters were noble! Brave! Strong! Sure there were some jerks out there, but most Hunters possessed good hearts and common decency. Didn’t they? They totally did. He was proud to call himself a Hunter..it meant everything to him! How could she stand there and suggest that Hunters weren’t good guys? It was so obvious!

“I don’t know what happened to make you doubt Hunters, but I’m a good guy and I’m going to prove it.”

Standing taller and lifting his chin, Motto jerked a thumb towards himself and smiled fiercely. She wasn’t the first person he’d met who had the wrong idea about Hunters. It really bothered him and Motto wanted to make a difference somehow. There had to be a way, other than proving it to one person at a time…but for now, it was the best he could do. His hands came to rest on his hips.

“My name is Motto. Motto Brook. I ..” He almost mentioned being a Pro Hunter once but decided against it. “..I’m at your service.” Surely she would be impressed by his clearly strong body and friendly smile. Soon enough she’d be shaking his hand and asking all about the Hunter’s Association. He just needed to wow her, and that would be easy enough.

Jacob stared at Motto as the man struck a pose, like he was a character in a children's hero story. Was this guy for real? Had he really gotten through the Hunter Exam with his fantasies intact? Everything Jacob had heard of the tests required to obtain the rank of Hunter suggested that only the strongest, most talented (and most ruthless) of applicants would make it through. Was this guy just stupid, or...what?

"Are you, now..." he said weakly, as Motto declared himself at 'her' service. He folded his arms over his slender chest and cocked his head to one side, one long ear flopping over his shoulder. Great. Now he was lumbered with this...this...starry-eyed would-be hero. Who would most certainly object to Jacob poking around in the ancient tombs tucked away in the graveyard's depths.

Still...it was clear that Motto was being sincere in his desire to keep the bunny safe. Jacob could hardly fault him for that. Jacob was hardly cynical (or cruel) enough to crush the man's dreams about the integrity of the Hunters, either; sooner or later Motto would discover just how...varied the Hunters were, and Jacob suspected it would be best to let him find that out on his own. And, if he had passed the Hunter Exam, then he should be able to take care of himself out here, so he wouldn't be a sack of baggage to lug around. Now, if only he could ditch the young man somewhere amidst the fog...

"Well, I guess you can stick around for a bit," he conceded, waving a hand lightly. "I don't want to interrupt what you were doing, but if you really insist, I guess you can come with me." The rabbit was clearly not quite as overawed as Motto had hoped, but 'she' hadn't told him to go away, either. Jacob doubted that he would do so, if asked. Without further delay, he turned and resumed trotting along the gravestone avenues, headed deeper into the graveyard and toward the oldest of the tombs.

The little lady didn’t seem too happy that he was going to assist her, but Motto was confident things would change soon enough. He wouldn’t quit her company until one: He was satisfied with her opinion of him as a Hunter, and two: he was certain of her safety on the other side of the NGL boarder. Strutting after the rabbit as she made her way, Motto couldn’t help but grin. One day, the Hunter’s Association would have a good opinion of him too. He’d earn a reputation this time.. not get any special treatment because of his father. He’d make things right with his old friends. He’d make the world a better place and kick ass everyday! All kinds of super strong dudes would offer to teach him and guide him, and Motto would develop a really cool new Hatsu!

The tombs were looking older where they were, and the ground was uneven. Motto made sure he was closer to the girl in case she lost balance or something. She was going to get the full Hunter protection experience! He’d totally guard her and amaze her and convince her! Then she’d tell all of her friends.

“So. Are you looking for something? My eyes are real sharp. My nose too!” Motto leaned forward to grin at the bunny. “If you told me more about what you’re doing out here, I can maybe save you some trouble.” A small tomb was ahead, and if she wasn’t paying attention the girl might trip. “Watch your step.”

Jacob looked around as he - they - walked, inspecting the tombs and graves as they went. As he did, he did his best not to be annoyed by Motto's chattering. He told himself that the naive man was trying to help, in his own ham-handed way. He was being nice.

And yet...He'd been hoping to explore this grave yard for months! And here he was, lumbered with some lunk-headed, starry-eyed, story-fed...hero. He wasn't cynical by a long shot, but Jacob would prefer not to have to dodge or explain his 'activities' once he found something interesting. To be fair to Motto, there was no guarantee that he'd find anything to take with him - which was fine! He'd love finding some new information, but...ugh.

"Oh no, I couldn't do that." He shook his head, stepping his way over the little tomb. "The search is part of the point. If I let you just find it for me, then that would kind of defeat the purpose!" He clasps his hands behind his back as he walks, looking around as they continued to pass among the graves. They were starting to become proper tombs, not just little family mausoleums.

"Mmm, let's see..." he murmurs to himself, ears flicking thoughtfully as he looked over the slumping mounds and gloomy doorways.

He could respect that. Motto knew all too well about wanting to do something on one’s own. The little rabbit was pretty brave to be out here. Around them, larger monuments stood quietly in the mist; some of them enclosed in little structures. Motto wondered what kinds of people were buried here and how old this place was. His hands slid into his pockets, and the Hunter began humming to himself as he looked about.

“I don’t want a fancy thing like that..” He announced after some time. Motto was staring up at a particularly large crypt. “I want to just be with the forest. The soil. You know? Not in a cold stone house. I mean.. it’s pretty and probably took someone a lot of work to make, but it just looks lonely and sad to me.”

Motto fell silent again and continued to follow the girl closely. Her aura seemed to be real docile… it was a good thing he was there to protect her. Sheesh.

“How do you wanna be buried?” He asked suddenly, leaning over to make eye contact. “I bet ya got big plans since you’re so … into this stuff?...So, a big one or a little one?” Motto grinned. This was like a game! She probably wanted something cool. Something he hadn’t thought of. “A fancy dress? Haha. Actually, now that I think about it, it’s kinda nice. But I wouldn’t want a suit or anything.. just my regular clothes. So, how about it? I’m guessing you might want a dress and maybe….a little tomb? With a statue??”

Motto stood in front of the girl now; blocking her path and waiting to see if he guessed right.

Jacob had only been half-listening to Motto's ramblings. He was much more interested in looking for a specific type of tomb, the kind that was half-collapsed and appeared to be built into the side of a hill, the old barrow mounds. He was sure there would be a few around somewhere. He managed a distracted "Hmm?" when Motto leaned over to look at him, but it was only when the Hunter put himself in Jacob's way and causing the bunny to draw up short that he actually gave him his full attention.

"How do I want to be buried?" he repeated, cocking his head. He found he wasn't annoyed at Motto for his intrusiveness and nosiness - he recognized those same elements in himself naturally enough, so he could hardly begrudge the Hunter his. Finally, he said, "I don't. Want to be buried, I mean." He gestured at the graves that surrounded them. "I'd much rather be cremated, and scattered off the top of a mountain."

He wondered how the young man would take that. He'd encountered people who thought cremation was 'unacceptable' before, for some reason, so he was curious to see how the Hunter would tip on this. He did find Motto's suggestion of being buried in a pretty dress amusing (and, if he were being honest, he had to admit that it wasn't a bad idea).

His ears twitched. He could hear the telltale little crumbling sounds of dirt and stone not quite doing the job of holding up the weight put on it, and looked down at Motto's feet. Was the ground just starting to sink there, where it had been humped up in a small mound? "You probably don't want to stand there," he warned, pointing down at the man's feet.

“Cremated.. ohhhhh.” Motto’s hand held his chin. It wasn’t something he knew much about. At all. He debated on whether or not it had anything to do with cream or mating. Mating seemed unlikely because it wasn’t really possible…was it?

“What’s cremated?” Motto didn’t like the idea of the bunny being scattered off the top of a mountain, but it wasn’t really any of his business. “Do … people…eat you?” Cringing at his own concept, the Hunter ignored the sounds of loose dirt and missed her comment entirely. It would be the saddest thing he ever heard if she was turned into a cream of some kind. Even if she was a very expensive moisturizer. He’d buy ‘em all and keep ‘em special! Guard ‘em.

The ground gave way and Motto’s footing was already lost before he could escape. Down into the dark sinkhole he went, reaching out for something to stop his fall. A tombstone, or a clump of grass, or a ..rabbit’s leg? Dammit. Motto saw the hole he fell through grow a bit smaller before landing hard on his back. Grunting, he winced at the force of his impact against what felt like solid stone. The Hunter coughed and squeezed his eyes shut as he processed what just happened.

"What?" Jacob blinked at Motto. He'd never thought there was someone (well, any adult) who didn't know what cremation was. "Eat...No! Jeez, no. Cremation's where-"

He never got any further. Down went Motto, sinking down into the hole he'd been warned about. Jacob didn't even get a chance to react; the man's hand closed about his ankle, The bunny's eyes widened and he disappeared down the hole after the Hunter with a squeal.

Down, down, dow-THUMP. Good news! He'd landed without dying! Bad news, he'd landed square on top of Motto. He groans, lying flat on his back, the effeminate bunny sprawled partially across Motto as he stared up at the invisible ceiling and the distant little hole they'd entered by.

Eventually, he groaned as he gained his breath back, then coughed, sending up a cloud of gravedust. "Oooghnn..." He rolled over onto his front, slowly pushing up to his knees, then sits back and coughs again as he looked around into...where had they landed?

“….” Motto blinked at the bunny girl on top of him for a moment before slowly sitting up. Looking around he made out pillars from floor to ceiling and strange carvings on the walls. The place was extremely dark and the air felt stale.

“This place hasn’t been touched in a long time..” He muttered, his voice echoing slightly. “Some kind of.. secret tomb or something?” He glanced at the rabbit and waited to hear her thoughts. Maybe this sort of stuff was her specialty. He got to his feet and sniffed around. Nothing out of the ordinary considering what just happened.

The Hunter’s eyes adjusted easily as they normally did, even in the darkest of places. Knowing his vision to be abnormally good, Motto kept close to the girl.

“Careful Miss. There’s nothing to trip on, but there are some small gaps between stones in the floor. Can ya see ok? There’s not a whole lot to see hah. Just some pillars and weird carvings of hearts. Wait. Hearts?” Motto scratched his head. The images depicted a variety of different scenes; all of them involving a couple doing romantic things. This secret tomb just got a LOT weirder.

Jacob gave himself a shake before looking around. Well, he'd wanted a tomb no one knew about. Looks like the gods answered his wish. He did wonder about the hearts, and the odd things that could only barely be seen in the gloom.

"Hang on, I've got something here..." He pulls his bag around (hopefully his stuff survived the fall) and rummages inside, leaning forward almost to the point of sticking his head inside. Finally, he pulls out an electric lantern, giving it a shake to make sure nothing was rattling around before turning the switch and flooding the room with light.

"Ah, that's better," he said, standing up and turning in a slow circle. "Now, let's see what you've stumbled into..." There really were hearts on the walls, inlaid in dusty glazed tiles, and interspersed with strange romantic scenes. This was definitely a little outside of what he was used to finding in a tomb.

"Well," he said after a long moment. "This is definitely a little...um...strange. Usually tombs have death or life-after-death imagery in them. This is..." He couldn't think of a suitable word that wouldn't have him repeating himself, so he left it hanging. He walked slowly around the room, inspecting the decor but being very careful not to actually touch anything. The weirdest tombs were often the most heavily trapped, and the last thing he wanted was to set off something strange in this place.

"This place might out-date even the grave yard up above," he said aloud as he worked his circuit. "It's pretty clear no one's been here in ages. Amazing workmanship, though!"
