“Oh,” she said, blinking. A wave a relief washed over her but she knew she had to answer his question. It seemed like her situation bothered the other Hunter considerably even since they came back to the hospital. Hearing how surprised he was that the wolf had gotten in to such a predicament, made her look away in shame.

“…I should’ve been more careful,” she said quietly, “I was tired; I had been traveling on foot for 2 days from the port of entry to investigate sightings of…wolf-like mayjuu. I was running low on supplies so I was trying to find the nearest town, but it seemed to be a long way off. I kept on walking until I got exhausted. Brush and trees were scarce where I was; only fields. I was so tired that I just ended up sleeping out in the open, not thinking that someone would even consider harming me.”

His other questions were about the girls that were in the vehicle and she tried her best to answer them.

“Well…I don’t think they were Hunters. They were just regular women but…maybe some of them could’ve been mayjuu, too? They were mostly crying, but they would quickly stop. It sounded like something was constricting them whenever they made a sound. I personally felt what it was; those collars seemed to respond to sound. I tried calling out, and it would instantly tighten,” she said her voice firm about what she could recall. Her ears could tell that he was becoming angry when he spoke bythe urgency of his voice and the increased volume. Ylva’s ears lowered a bit as her hands gripped the bedsheets.

“…I was angry too, Motto. I wouldn’t have hit the back of my head repeatedly on the walls to get someone’s attention to the vehicle,”she muttered, “it’s not like I could say anything…and I wouldn’t wish this on anyone. Humans are cruel creatures; they profit on beings considered beneath them and do not consider their feelings. They’ve always been like that…”

The fur on her tail rose in anger and her aura flared in frustration as past transgression from humans started to fill her mind. Her eyes darkened as she dwelled on those memories. She had been on missions where humans have driven gentle mayjuu to the brink of extinction because they wanted to expand businesses or kill them for mere sport. It was her duty to protect them, or at least find a reasonable relocation for the animals, but the situation always made her livid.

The wolf had her own personal run-in with humans when she was very young, but…it was too painful to dwell on. The sound of the nurse’s voice grated on her ears and she turned to the woman. Her usual calm and shy demeanor was broken in that instant.

“WE ARE HAVING A PRIVATE CONVERSATION! LEAVE! NOW!” the mayjuu’s voice was deliberate, upset, and finite. It didn’t help that the words spurred her aura to flare even more.

Motto wasn’t sure who to fear more, the nurse or Ylva. The former turned and left, leaving the Hunters alone once more and he glanced uneasily towards the bed.

“It’s stupid of me to get so worked up.” Rubbing the back of his neck, the raven scowled at nothing in particular. “I mean whether or not those girls were Hunters. The fact is, something shitty is happening and I don’t like it.” Motto clamped down on Ylva’s bed rail and held tight. He wasn’t going to just walk away and let the police take care of it. They should have let him help dammit. What if there were more trucks? And where was Ylva’s truck headed anyway? Motto needed answers and ass kicking; sooner than later.

“I’m going to see to it myself. Find whoever’s responsible and.. make them stop.” The railing groaned as the metal crunched in his hands. “Stuff like that isn’t supposed to happen. To girls, to mayjuu, to Hunters, to anyone.” Motto’s aura churned darkly and he recognized the inner shudder that sometimes accompanied the rush of power and his hidden love of it. He could track those guys down and end their operation without losing control. Everything was totally fine. He just had something important to do and that was it. Sure there were risks involved, but that never stopped him before. ‘I got this.’ He assured himself.

As soon as the woman left, her expression even out. Ylva sighed as she looked back to Motto and noticed that he looked uneasy.

“I’m sorry about that; I don’t usually lose my temper…,” her voice wasn’t as sharp as before, but it still held a bit of bite as she mulled over things, “but…this situation hits close to me. If you weren’t upset about this situation, I would think that something was wrong with you.”

The wolf could sense that he was quite upset about this situation, taking to note his strength that increased due to this. The nurse was certainly going to question her about that railing and probably give the mayjuu a talking to because of how she yelled at her. Her ears twitched every now and then as she continued to listen to him speak, hearing how he was going to find these people and make them stop. Turquoise eyes widened as he mentioned this and she quickly sat up more on the bed. Determination filled her bright eyes as she looked to him and a serious expression was on her face.

“I’m going with you,” she said with such assurance that it seemed like she wouldn’t take ‘No’ for an answer. Her own aura resonated around her, mainly as a defensive instinct but also to show that she was strong as well.

“It shouldn’t happen to girls and it needs to be addressed and solves. If evidence surfaces that this is happening to mayjuu like me, I have an obligation as a UMA Hunter to become involved in this excursion,” she said with conviction and commitment. The professional tone in her voice only made it sound like she was not going to go back on her decision.

“Even if you say that I can’t go, I’ll still follow you. I want to help those girls too…because I know I can help them. I have the power to do so. WE have the power to do so. Together.”

“You’ll slow me down.” Motto had waited until Ylva was finished speaking to make his abrupt dismissal. Standing straighter, he let go of her bed rail and said sternly, “With those injuries, you will get in the way and end up in another truck.” Amber eyes flashed as he pointed at her. “Stay here.”

Without another word, the Hunter turned and yanked the door open. Motto didn’t bother to close it behind him as he stormed down the corridor past the wheelchairs and rolling laundry carts. Just as he turned a corner, he nearly collided with a man bringing take out to his wife who had just given birth. Motto moved out of the way with a weakened expression and watched the man pass. Dammit he was starving. He hadn’t eaten since .. since that morning! Grumbling, he walked by the vending machine that still held the unwanted SaveLifers candy up to mock him. Motto didn’t want to, but he’d have to stop for food somewhere.

Ten minutes later, he arrived at the Police station with mayo still on his face from the sandwich he inhaled on the way. “Uh. I was in a car accident this morning?” The receptionist didn’t look up for her paperwork. “Do I need to fill out a report or something? I left the scene in an ambulance, so I didn’t uhhh.. do the thing there.” No reply. Not even a blink. Motto’s jaw twitched and he pulled out his Hunter’s License. “I want to see the officer in charge of the truck incident this morning.” He slammed the license down onto the receptionist’s papers. “Now.”

A steady anger started to grow and fill Ylva as let him talk. Why was he putting her down? Did he not believe that she was strong enough to take care of herself? She had never felt so insulted by someone else’s words in her entire life, and people had said some incredibly terrible things to her.

Turquoise turned dark as she glared at the other. She would NOT stay there and just let him go and do this on his own! As soon as he left, Ylva immediately started to formulate a plan to leave this hospital without the nurses an staff knowing. Motto did it before, and she was capable of doing what he can.

“Treating me like some damn burden….,” she muttered as she slipped off the bed, “I’ll show him what I can do…I will NOT be patronized by someone like him.”

She’ll prove to him that she was a capable partner in this endeavor. Stuffing her pillows underneath the blankets, the mayjuu made her way to the closet to see if her dress was in there. Thankfully it was. Dressing, the wolf made sure to check the room before making her escape. Even though her ankle was hurting, it only spurred her on to find Motto and work to bring down that smuggling operation. It was wrapped securely so it would be fine for what she wanted to do next:

To walk right past everyone by using Zetsu.

Closing her eyes, the Hunter focused on closing off her aura so she wouldn’t be felt or noticed by anyone. Taking a deep breath, Ylva gently opened the hospital door and walked down the corridor that would lead her out into the city. The clever wolf had already gotten ahold of Motto’s scent; it reminded her too much of the forests and it was a hard scent to resist taking note of. Following it, she started off.

And she had a little present to give her new ”friend” of her’s…

Armed with new information, Motto left the police station and hailed a taxi. It drove right past him. Narrowing his eyes, Motto watched it continue until out of sight and muttered something about cities under his breath. He’d just catch another one. Whenever it came. Time was ticking by and he couldn’t just stand around, so Motto stuffed his hands into his pockets and began walking. He’d just keep up a good pace like that until another taxi showed up.

He’d get out to the scene of the crime and poke around. Look for clues, and find a way to track that guy! Wait. That was the stupidest idea ever. Just how the heck was he going to find out where he was going? The truck.. the police probably investigated it already. But with if nen were involved somehow? Motto frowned and stopped walking. It was dark and rather cold, but he only realized it just then. If the truck driver was a nen-user, he would’ve used it during their little run in. So chances were slim he might find anything the authorities hadn’t already. Dammit. Back at the station, the captain had patiently listened to Motto’s insistence on being involved before waving him off like a child.

There was no way he would go back there now.

That captain jerk and his snobby lieutenant could just sit behind their shiny desks and smirk all day, no problem. Motto was going to get off his butt and get to the bottom of this!! Right after he figured out how. Shivering a little as an icy breeze swept through his hair, the Hunter sought temporary shelter in an alley. Looking up at the stars, he tried to summon any shred of cleverness he had to form a plan.

Traveling through the city proved to be a bit more challenging than she had first thought. It was only when she was younger did she ever really go into cities for supplies, but even that was on very rare occasions in her past. Now, cities seemed to have changed, just like she did, with age.

Sure, it was easy when someone was carrying you around everywhere but now that Ylva was walking the streets alone, it was a different matter. The sounds were abrasive and the smells were too much at times. Keeping her mind focused on the task, the wolf used her sense of smell to keep track of Motto’s scent and follow that until she dead ended her trail. Or find him. Whichever comes first. The trail led her to two places, one of them being a sandwich shop and the other being the police station. Standing outside of the building, the mayjuu inwardly ‘tsk, tsk’ed about Motto’s choice of gathering information. It was a good start, but it always seemed that police departments didn’t really like helping Hunters too much. Some places are more cooperative than others when you flash them your license. Sometimes. It was why she didn’t like relying on the police.

Sniffing the air once more, Ylva picked up a trail that led away from the building and down the street until it stopped at an alley.

And there he was, just looking up at the sky.

Seeing him being so nonchalant started a new flame of anger in her chest. Huffing, Ylva activated her Zetsu and got as close as she could to him before dismissing it away.

“Really? All that talk back at the hospital and you’re just twiddling your damn fingers in this alley way? Saying I was the ONE that would be taken away by those barbaric people…like I DESERVE it because I'm injured?! I can't BELIEVE I thought you were nice,”she said, upset and noticeably offended beyond all measure, “you, sir, are an ASS!” Her leg quickly came up and kneed him as hard as she could in his stomach.

“INSENSITIVE, ARROGANT, ‘I-DON’T-NEED-HELP’,” words kept flowing and she pulled back her arm and socked him really good in the face, “JERK! ” The wolf’s face was flushed, hair loose and hanging in her face as the Hunter’s eyes shined with a vivid fury that soon waned into annoyance and then tiredness. She hadn’t felt that upset in quite some time and all he wanted to do was help him.

“Just…let me…help you,” the young woman breathed as she calmed herself down, as well as try to catch her breath from being so upset and also from walking all over the city.

To his surprise, Ylva was standing there, and Motto wondered why he hadn’t noticed. His expression shifted as he quickly assumed she’d been using Zetsu and following him. Motto’s agitation didn’t last long as her words and attitude assaulted him in rapid succession. Blinking at the furious girl, the Hunter mentally scrambled to defend himself. Twiddling his fingers?! She didn’t deserve….!!! HE WAS NICE!!! SIR?!!

Motto’s mouth opened to retort, but instead he found himself bent over in unexpected pain. Dammit she kicked hard. Ylva’s subsequent insults didn’t quite register as Motto coughed and tried to keep his sandwich down. Her fist connected with his face and sent the Hunter to his hands and knees. Stunned and pissed, Motto forced himself to recover and lunged for the girl. If successful he’d pin Ylva against the alleys opposite brick wall and hold her there.

“Like this Ylva? Huh? How’re ya gonna help? HUH? He spoke earnestly, his amber eyes angry. Motto could see she was upset and he didn’t want to hurt her, but better this than never seeing her again. He wouldn't be able to forgive himself if something happened.

“You’re injured. So you managed to sneak up on me and .. stuff, but there’s maybe a bunch of dudes Ylva. What if you get .. “ His grip would loosen and Motto’s voice would become softer. “..Next time .. you can’t bang your head..”

A smirk touched her lips as she saw the doubled over and onto his knees. Maybe know he’d understand that she was strong; strong enough to help him with this plan that she wanted in on. It was a short lived victory, though, and soon she found herself pinned to the wall. Head hitting the brick, her body involuntarily jerked up a bit from the pain. His words were wasted on the wolf, not caring that he was yelling at her and that his voice had grown soft towards the end. It sparked her animal instinct, being cornered in such a position and being injured.

Like a wild animal caught in a hunting trap.

Swiftly, Ylva arched her neck back and slammed her forehead onto the others, hoping that the impact would cause him to stumble backwards and she slipped through his loosened grip.

"...you'll be sorry," she muttered, "underestimating me is not a wise decision..,"

If he thought that she was just some weak think to look after, she’d show him. Giving herself some distance to get her barrings, the mayjuu closed her eyes as she focused her Nen to her throat. She had to at least pour more than half of her own aura to her throat to pull this off. Ylva hated this technique; it was born out of hatred and malice that still lurks in her heart somewhere. It was horrible to watch, especially if she sang the entirety of her Nen song.

Only a couple of verses, to get her point across. Opening her eyes, her aura resonated within her throat as she prepared to sing Distorted Melody: Concerto of Delusion.

"Do you....just not believe that I can actually do things on my own? even if I'm not injured?" she retorted back at the other, quietly moving through the shadows, "you...shouldn't count an injured wolf out...you should be afraid of them."

Hopefully this trivial conversation would keep him from noticing what she was planning.

Motto’s words came to an abrupt stop when his head flew back from the strike. Staggering back, the Hunter groaned angrily and brought his hands to his face. Dammit she was stubborn. Wetness on his fingers turned out to be blood, and Motto glared up at the wolf-girl. Her eyes were closed much to his surprise and he shook his head to rid himself of the dizziness before speaking.

“I wouldn’t know what you’re capable of..” He replied through grit teeth. “..maybe pretending to be weak is something you like to do until you’re mad. I don’t know.” She had tricked him or something..made him feel sorry for her! He still kinda did! Motto didn’t like to be confused and right now, he wasn’t sure what to do. She was acting tough, but maybe it was just a show. Back there in the truck, she looked real bad. She was probably still in rough shape and shouldn’t even be out here in the cold!

“Forget what I said. Ylva. Dammit just GO BACK TO THE HOSPITAL ALREADY!” His voice echoed strangely and Motto realized it had begun to snow. Tiny white flakes fell all around the tense pair. “Hey! Do you hear me? I don’t have time for this! You’re…YOU’RE ALREADY IN MY WAY!”

With that, Motto turned his back and began to stride away furiously.
