It was all a fury of wind and jarring noises to the mayjuu.

Motto’s grip tightened on the wolf as she felt him take off on foot. The sounds that had once grated on her ears soon faded and replaced with the sound of rain hitting pavement. Closing her eyes, she tried her best to relax now that the sounds and people were gone. It wasn’t until she heard a door open and close did Ylva wearily open her eyes. There were plants and the scent of warm soil was breathed into her lungs. Comforting and familiar, it made her tense, shivering body relax considerably. Slight body tremors continued, but it was due to the cold of the rain chilling her. Words of comfort came from the other that held her close to him and soothed her as she turned her head to gaze at the plants that made up the corner of this small glass building.

Ylva decided to remain quiet, her head injury throbbing softly along with the steady fall of rain hitting the glass that covered this building. This place was quieter than where they were peacefully; it carried the smells of nature with it as well. Who knew that such nature existed in the place that was inorganic? Another shiver passed through her as she felt a twinge of cold pass through her. Her hair stuck to her face as she slowly looked up at the other Hunter who was also soaked to the bone.

He’d taken care of her. Other humans wouldn’t have done such a thing towards majyuu; at least, that was the experience she had when she was younger. His kindness certainly changed her view a bit. Feeling embarrassed about those prejudice feeling, she looked away a bit, her gaze settling on a purple rose that was on a counter.

“Motto…where are we?” she asked softly, wincing every now and then and she sat up at bit to look around, even daring to sit up a bit. Moving around caused her to become a dizzy and a bit off balance, so she instantly stilled herself. Feeling him drape his coat over her, even though it was wet as well, made her feel that much more secure.

“Mnn…s-stupid headache,” she muttered lowly. Her tail hung limply off her body as she tried her best to forget the pain at the back of her head while also trying her best to asses where she actually was.

“Oh. This is a greenhouse.” Motto looked around. It contained mostly green things: ferns, spathiphyllum, philodendrons, moss, various ivy, and herbs. “Huh. I like this one. I’ve only really seen ones with flow-- easy there. You ok?”

She didn’t look good at all. Motto hated to admit it, but taking her here might have been a bad idea. He just wanted her warm and away from noise, but Ylva was suffering. Reaching up, he plucked a few leaves from a plant within his reach.

“Here.” He held it close to her face. “Inhale the scent of it. It’s peppermint.” He noticed how soaked through she was and glanced up at the rainy glass ceiling, muttering, “Good for headaches.” She needed something dry. He needed to get off his ass and help her out. This place was nice but not good enough. Dammit he was an idiot.

“Just try to relax Ylva. I’ll getcha back to the hospital when the rain lets up, ok?”

Motto swallowed and continued to hold her close. Should he keep talking to cheer her up? Maybe make her laugh? Nah.. she wasn’t feelin’ good. He ought to keep quiet and just get her back to a warm bed and dry clothes as soon as it was reasonable.

Reasonable. Huh. Whatever that was.

Motto’s standards weren’t like most people’s. Hell, no one else would have stolen a hospital patient, got ‘em drenched, and broke into a greenhouse! That kinda stuff was HIS specialty! If she got sick because of this he’d never forgive himself. The Hunter had no place in society anymore. Well, if they needed jerks he was available, but for the most part Motto began to think he really ought to keep to himself more often. But wait. If he hadn’t been such a bakka in that rented car, Ylva might have never gotten out of that awful truck! Maybe the world really did need fools like him. If only it didn’t bother him so much.

Shutting his eyes, the troubled young man shifted slowly into a cross-legged sitting position. If the downpour didn’t ease up in the next ten minutes, he’d have to just run her back in it. This hadn’t been a good idea at all. His jaw twitched with agitation, but Motto remained silent as his mind continued to spiral negatively.

“I’m…okay; my head just…really hurts,” she repeated. Ylva had never heard some something like that, but the name did make sense. It was a small, house-shaped building filled with greenery. Did people in cities make these because there weren’t any plants around? Humans were very odd sometimes. Another sharp pain shot up through the back of her head and she quickly closed her eyes for a few seconds. As if he knew what was occurring, Motto offered her some peppermint to ease her aching head. Ylva gently inhaled the scent of the herb and she could feel the pain slowly ebb away.

A small sigh left her.

“…thank you,” she said in a quiet tone, “you knew that about peppermint…you’re pretty knowledgeable about herbs.” The mayjuu was feeling a bit embarrassed; she knew that fact about peppermint but hadn’t been able to seek the herb out due to her pain. She felt embarrassingly weak right now and she didn’t want that to be something that her fellow Hunter would remember about her.
Hopefully this pain would pass soon.

“You…don’t have to take me back,” she said a she looked to the plants, “I...was actually planning on trying to leave soon…if you could imagine that, haha…but I know I have to go back…” It was a dry laughter because now she knew that she needed to be back there. The wolf had thought that her head injury was just minor but now…she knew that it wasn’t and it needed to be taken care, even if it was in a place that she didn’t like.

Plus…her things were back there and she needed to get them.

Ylva shifted a bit in Motto’s arms and felt him bring her closer to him. He was trying to keep her warm and safe and…she wasn’t really sure how to acknowledge this kindness that was thrusted upon her. Humans, in her past, hadn’t always been so kind. Even going far enough as to harm her physically. Every day, she was grateful to be raised by two human parents that loved her as if she were their own child. To protect her, though, they kept her away from others. Because of this, Ylva always felt very awkward around others. Honestly, if she wasn’t in so much pain and not feeling too well, she’d be gone by now or even actively trying to get away from Motto.

Blinking slowly, bright turquoise eyes looked up at the other. Seeing him make such drastic decisions today made her wonder if he thought with his emotions. Occasionally, she’d do the same. It made her a bit curious to know more about him.

“You…think a lot with your emotions, don’t you?” she asked, genuine curiosity coming across in her voice. The mayjuu moved once more, not wanting to cause the other discomfort for holding her for too long.

“You don’t have to take me back…”

Genuine confusion beset Motto’s face. Well how else could she possibly….?? Ylva's movement startled him. Oops. She wanted to leave now. Grunting boyishly, the Hunter loosened his hold on the girl almost entirely, as much as he could without letting her fall. It seemed like an awfully bad idea to let her walk in such a condition, but she was an adult! Who was he to stop her? (unless she couldn’t even manage to stand) This was too strange! Ylva’s next comment cut off Motto’s thought process; baffling him even more.

“HUH?” Blinking at the girl still in his lap, the young man’s mouth partially opened and an awkward sound escaped. “I don’t understand how we … you want to leave, Right? And.. what about my ….emotions?! haha…What?” Motto shook his head and had a laugh at himself. He really wasn’t sure what Ylva was talking about! Was the part about emotions somehow connected to walking back to the hospital? Man he was a real moron today!

“Nevermind.” He calmed and waited for her to get up. Until she did so, he’d sit there as politely as he good and enjoy the green smell around him.

Blinking, Ylva tilted her head a bit as she tried to understand what HE was talking about. It seemed like a bit of miscommunication was occurring, and she couldn’t help but…laugh a bit.

“I think my words must’ve confused you; I’m sorry,” the soft laughter died out as she tried to explain herself, “I meant that before you came into my room at that…what was it called again? A “hospital”? Before you came in my room, and that horrid woman was trying to do something to something to me, I thought about leaving through the window. Now, though, I think it would be best if I stayed there…I don’t…ngh…think I can really treat this and my leg at the same time. Being a Hunter comes first…and I need to be treated properly if I want to continue.” It took a lot for her to come to that decision; Ylva didn’t like that place but from what Motto had said about the place being somewhere a person can be healed, it seemed like the logical decision to come to.

“Plus, if I leave now, these bandages would become beyond ruined and I don’t think they’re supposed to get wet even it they're already soaked,” she added on, “and…it’s warm in here.” Ylva eyes looked to his, her head tilting a bit as she studied him, her ears twitching a bit.

“And I think you think with you emotions because no sensible person would do what did,” she said softly, but smiled, “…you’re a very genuine person and thought about me first. You're..ngh…different from other humans.”

The mayjuu winched during the last part, sitting herself back down in Motto’s lap as she waited out the pain. A sudden realization came to her, and she closed her eyes.

“Motto, do you think…you could check out where they treated my head? I want…to make sure it’s okay,” she asked, concern in her voice about her wound. The wolf hadn’t, and couldn’t, check on it herself and needed another pair of willing eyes and hands to do so.

Hopefully, the wound wasn’t infected.

Motto did his best to listen carefully as Ylva explained, but when she mentioned being a Hunter, everything stopped. SHE WAS A HUNTER. Suddenly his chest felt uncomfortably warm and Motto’s throat tightened. His whole body tensed up as a rushing sound filled his ears. The fact that something like that had happened to a Hunter really bothered him. Motto nearly got lost in the anger, it came on so strong.

She had been talking. Motto blinked and tried to pay attention. She thought he was different from other humans. Heh. She wasn’t the only one. Before he could properly respond, Ylva asked him to check her injury.

“Mm? Oh. Yeah sure. Ok.” His hands relaxed a little and he did his best to inspect the girl’s bandaged head without touching it, but her hair was pretty thick and curly, so he moved it aside with caution. Right away he could tell it wasn’t good. Fresh blood seeped from an opening in Ylva’s stitches and it was beginning to swell.

“Well? It’s not bad. But it’s not good either. We have to get ya back sooner than later I’m afraid.” Eyebrows lifting apologetically, Motto smiled and got to his feet quickly while holding the other Hunter in his arms. “Just keep that coat over your.. yeah like that.” He pulled it over her head, and practically smushed the girl’s face into himself. For reasons that were unclear, Motto counted down from three before opening the door and rushing into the downpour. Six minutes later, the hospital's automatic doors slid open for a panting young man with a girl in his arms. Squeaking on the high polished floors, the hunter’s boots made steady progress all the way back to Ylva’s room. Once there, he set her down on the bed and locked eyes with her turquoise ones.

“Don’t do anything.” He commanded firmly, pulling her bedding up around her. Without breaking his gaze, Motto addressed the nurse that entered. “She needs help getting into dry clothes. Her bandages are in bad shape too.”

Standing, Motto continued to stare until the nurse who had approached Ylva’s side cleared her throat awkwardly. Snapping out of his hardened focus, the young man blinked several times and hastily ran a through his spiky hair before turning and nearly walking into the wall. Somehow he managed to leave the room without another series of mishaps and paced the corridor until given the go-ahead to re-enter.

Ylva stayed still, bracing herself if he accidentally brushed against the wound. Having such thick hair came with drawbacks, but she could never bring herself to cut it. She simply loved her locks. His hands were careful and as soon as he reached the wound, the wolf’s body moved away a bit but she quickly stilled. As he addressed what he saw, she knew that she had to be taken back to the hospital.

“It must’ve been the rain water that caused it to be so sensitive,” she stated, “and…it’s probably for the best. It…did hurt when you got close. N-Not that it was your fault that it hurt, b-because it wasn’t.” Ylva didn’t want Motto to feel guilty for making her wince. He was a good person, doing all this for someone he didn’t even know.

“He’s a good natured person….,”, she thought quietly. He stood to his feet and helped drape the coat over her head while holding her close to him. The sound of rain pouring against the coat made her ears lower, but she found a bit of comfort from the scent of the greenhouse that seem to cling to the young man holding her. It was pleasant, to say the least, more so than the damp smells of the city.

In a matter of minutes, they both reached the hospital. The cold air of the building made the mayjuu shiver in his arms. The smell of antiseptics and sanitary cleaning products assaulted her nose and instinctively made her stop moving, but she willed herself to relax.

“It’s for the best. I have to be here to get trearted,” she thought repeatedly until the sound of a door opening made her peek out from the coat. They were back in her hospital room. Motto walked over to the bed, setting her down and then staring intently into her own eyes. It wasn’t aggressive or angry, just a very intense gaze as he pulled up the bed blankets around her. His lips parted to speak, voice firm as he told her not to do anything. Slowly, Ylva nodded her head, her own gaze locking with his. Why was he looking at her with such a focused gaze? Was he lost in thought? For some reason, her face felt hot in that moment. Was she…coming down with a fever? It had to be.

The clearing of the nurse’s throat made her break out of that focus. Her eyes quickly looked down at the blankets, not really sure as to what to make of that interaction. As the young man left, Ylva shyly looked to the nurse and followed her instructions. Even though she was nervous, she let the nurse assist her with bathing, dressing her wound and her leg, and administer some much needed medicine.

One thought plagued her mind, though; why DID he stare at her with such intense focus….?

‘They weren’t all Hunters Motto, just Ylva.’ He told himself. The raven was pacing outside the wolf-girl’s.. the Hunter’s hospital room, and feeling strangely agitated. The whole day had been upsetting, but the fact that a Hunter had been in such a situation really bothered him. Hunters weren’t supposed to be victims like that. They were the ones doing the rescuing! Shaking his head, Motto tried to relax and think of something else. ‘Maybe she’s … weak or something? No! Hunters aren’t weak!’ Cursing silently, he ran his hand through his hair again and looked up to see the nurse standing in his path.

“She’s decent now. You can go in.”

Motto nodded and did his best to compose himself before entering. She needed to rest..and not to answer his questions. He could figure this out without interrogating the poor girl. He’d put her through enough already. Motto stuffed his hands in his pockets and went in.

“Hey. Sorry about the ..rain and stuff. Heh. You feelin’ ok?”

He wanted to make sure his new Hunter friend was ok but Motto had some thinking to do tonight. A plan was starting to form in his mind. He needed to make sure no one was stolen like that again. The police force might be working on it, but Motto had an uneasy feeling.

Ylva’s hair was cleaned and dried, pulled into a tidy braid that fell off her shoulder. It was obvious that it wasn’t her doing due to the small pout on her face. The nurse had suggested it, saying it would make her look fetching, whatever that meant. She let the woman do as she pleased; it would be easier on her to let her do whatever than put up a fuss. Fresh bandages covered her wounds and she looked a bit better as some color was now a bit more evident in her cheeks. The sound of the door opening made her look to here Motto was. Ears alert, the wolf watched him walk in. That intense stare he gave her before leaving previously was still fresh in her mind.

It was something that she wanted to ask him, but he spoke first.

“O-Oh! It’s okay. I know…you were only looking out for me and thinking in the moment,” she said, the corners of her mouth lifting a bit, “and I’m fine. I guess the medication here is stronger than some of the herbs I would use when I scavenge.”

There was a little moment of awkward silence. The mayjuu could sense that something seemed to be on the Hunter’s mind as if something was weighing heavily on his mind. Now that she felt better, the anxiety that she usually felt when dealing with people came back and she was struggling a bit to ask him about that intense gaze. ‘Come on, he held you for goodness sake you can ask him a question,’ she thought, mentally scolding herself.

“Um…Motto? Why were you looking at me before the nurse came in?” her voice was quiet, almost to the point of muttering, “I’m sorry…you look like you have something on you mind. I shouldn’t have asked..”

Ylva looked much better than before, and Motto couldn’t help but feel relieved. She’d probably be in good shape tomorrow. He should probably check just to make sure. After all, she’d never been in a hospital before.. maybe she didn’t much experience with cities. Sheesh he couldn’t just leave her..but the trail was already growing cold as the hours passed. There might be another truckload of .. well.. stolen girls on its way to some damn place or something! Motto’s thoughts halted at hearing his name.

“Huh?” Looking at her? What now? Ylva seemed .. troubled, or was it angry? Scared?

“I was .. thinking. Mm.” Brows knit together while his arms crossed over his chest. Motto didn’t really want to tell her and bring up any bad feelings, but she might have important details that would help him. Screw it. She was a Hunter and he’d treat her with the respect she deserved. “I just.. I’m surprised that this happened to you.” He gestured to her new clean bandages, and brought his hands to his hips. “I mean, that’s pretty serious. Did any of the other girls have nen? I didn’t notice it, but maybe I missed something. Did you talk with them? Were they Hunters Ylva?” A surge of anger bubbled up inside, and Motto worked a fist into his other hand while beginning to pace again. “I just can’t stand to think that .. someone would do that! I’m pissed about it. I mean, you’re a Hunter dammit! We’re Hunters! That crap isn’t supposed to happen!”

“Young man, please lower your voice.” The nurse stood in the doorway, her own natural aura pulsing thick and black; causing Motto’s hair to stand on end.
