So, as you all know our current Nen system allows full usage of every Nen application, both fundamental and advanced, free of charge to anyone who desires it. New characters with base stats are able to efficiently utilize every advanced application right off the bat, despite the series making it clear that advanced Nen techniques are difficult to learn and require a considerable amount of practice and experience.

This proposal would essentially make advanced Nen techniques matter more by requiring members to gradually "unlock" them as their characters grow stronger, as well as pay AP for them. As it is I believe advanced Nen techniques are taken for granted and not given the proper level of importance and effectiveness.

Here's how the system would work:

  • The four applications that would primarily be affected by this system are Shu, Ko, In, and En.
  • Each member will be allowed to choose two of these four techniques to gain at no cost; the other two, however, will require that you pay 1AP in order to learn them

Also, I propose that we make the character rank correlate with the number of Advanced Nen Technique slots available. For example, an H-rank character will be allowed one advanced Nen technique. At G-rank, the character will unlock another slot, allowing a total of two advanced Nen techniques, and so on.

As an alternative, I was thinking perhaps instead of character rank, we could make the unlockable slots correlate with the amount of SP the character has earned. This is primarily because of how difficult and uncommon it is for characters to "rank up" here.

The goal behind these changes is twofold. Firstly, to bring our system closer to canon where these Advanced Techniques are not universally known amongst nen users (Killua still can't use En, In, or Ko; the boss of Neon's body guards couldn't use Shuu). The second goal is to introduce a new dynamic of character customization to the site, allowing members to personalize their characters by selecting the advanced techniques most suited to them (for instance, a swordsman might begin with Shuu, or a brawler interested in dealing a lot of damage might choose Ko). This would also introduce more of a group dynamic on missions, where a group might search for a member with Shuu or Ko for combat reasons, En for information gathering, or In for hatsu-based subterfuge.

How's progress thus far with the new system being fully revamped for a re-grand opening?

There's a long list of systems/overhauls we're developing/have planned, and I expect working on them will be a continuous process.

That said, we're hoping to get the first batch of new systems/revamps out relatively soon - my goal is the start of summer. Some of the things you could expect to see are - release of a Celestial Tower system, changes to how Advanced Nen Techniques are handled, updates to the grading system, and a revamp to both the nntech and item systems. Another thing we're currently working on, that I hope to release along with the rest, is a compendium for site narrative materials and an arc system that ties into it. Most of these things, except the compendium, are close to completion, but are still in the need of final balancing and/or tweaks.

What I said earlier about us being understaffed is still true. We only have a handful of people working on these systems, and could always use some extra hands on board to speed things up. Not just to help iron out these systems, but also to help promote general activity on the site through approving apps or narrating threads.

Asylum, being the former creator of the site I'd love to help out. In terms of these new systems and general activity in terms of advertisement. I don't about approving applications or narrating threads. I'll help you guys iron out these new systems and advertise. Cause the sooner they are complete the sooner I may even role play again having it been years since I've role played (looks at my old account's Nagasaki, Saburo character to remake).
