Everyone's always telling you to be humble. When was the last time someone told you to be great?

Thank you for your input.

You said you couldn't roleplay in 80% this site has to offer. Can you tell me exactly what these arebso we can make it more accessible?

As someone with the same limitations on one of my characters, I think she's referring to the fact that its incredibly difficult to RP with other Nen using characters while yours isn't awoken. Even Luca, who's one of the sites stronger characters, not to mention armed with a pistol, has trouble hanging with any of the other Nen users. The most recent example would be a thread I did with Conjurer, and even with our experience as storytellers, it wasn't exactly easy putting together a thread that involved Luca not being murdered by a Nen enhanced slap while still keeping Mizaki challenged.

Part of this problem should be somewhat solved through the mentor program, and fixing the Hunter Exam.

The only reason why I disappeared, was that much of the RP I've began were interrupted and never continued (because the other players were missing). Probably the thing that tired me more than everything, was that the hunter exam... It is still there...

I'm glad to see you guys wanting this site to reborn.

I like a lot the free component of how you can create the character, the nonnen-techniques/nen-techniques and the other stuffs give the player so much freedom(perhaps you are right saying that the hatsu system should be revisisted).

And since my "loyalty" to HxH (the world itself), and this site being a forum (so that it doesn't spend too much of my time) I really want to continue.

If it is HxH I can't get bored.

Ehy, i had an idea :D

Maybe we could create a new staff-like role, the Nen Guide.
The Nen Guide is not a moderator, administrator or similar, his role is to give advice about a particular aspect of Nen, so to help new player and not to understand better.
To be practical, we could have a Guide for every Hatsu Catergory, so:
-Reinforcement Guide;
-Transformation Guide;
-Materialization Guide;
-Manipulation Guide;
-Emission Guide;
-Specialization Guide;
-Basic Nen Technique Guide;
-Non-nen Technique Guide.

We put this list with every guide name on an easily readable place on the forum, they are the guys you can go to ask whenever you have doubt or similar on tha field. For example, i don't know if i can create a lightsaber with Materialization Hatsu and i ask him if that is possible.
And also, they can give advices when someone makes a new request in the forum.

In this way we gather a good core of members like you were saying before and we make easier for eveyone to develop their hatsu. And at the same time we prevent to have only 1 man stressed by overwork for everyone asking to him what to do/can be done.

I'm Deadpool :P

1- a cooking test for the hunter exams where the tester give the instructions (do that for 3 minutes then wait for 1 and do that for another 4...etc) and the people can do that and stick to the minutes exactly.

2- a running test for the hunter exams where they can run and obstacle each others

3- clans and clash of clans (pun intended)

4- finally an impact on the world and maybe some small, medium, large and X large event (wanted to say mega and giga events tho)

As someone with the same limitations on one of my characters, I think she's referring to the fact that its incredibly difficult to RP with other Nen using characters while yours isn't awoken.
I could not have put it better than this.

I realize it's only 1 missing variable in the equation, but I feel its effect is major. In fact, it kept me in a slump for quite a while, which is why I brought it up in the first place with all recent happenings considered.

And while I'm here again, please allow me to contribute more input for you all to ruminate on. If I were to propose some ideas for site features and events, I'd like them to be able to function without having to put even more strenuous pressure on the staff team. What I meant is not for the staff to let it go, but to make it clear to the members that they shouldn't have to micromanage everything or else they would get swamped with site responsibilities and all the waiting game in other areas (e.g. stats updates) is gonna lag. It can be something as simple as enslaving encouraging the members to contribute ideas for small / seasonal events at a regular interval instead of having the admins and mods come up with them all the time. Members' involvement can also make them feel more affiliated with the site as a whole. If this has been done, continue doing it and maybe give the members whose ideas are chosen some candies as a sign of appreciation. Label this as 'Contest (?)' .

Glossing over Asylum's mini arc idea and the Hunter Exam being separated into little groups, I think the basic concept of that division can also be applied to events. Long story short, 1 huge seasonal event thread should be significantly reduced if not eliminated. Substitute them with ones that little groups can safely jump into. The result is gonna share a similar success to the mini arc concept (yes, I do think the mini arc idea is a special snowflake). Easier for thread mod/ game mod to manage, easier on the participants to manage, easier for everyone to interact, but more challenging for participants to leave without a notice of absence because they know everyone's gonna stare at them when they come back. Just makes everything easier, imo. This ties in well into forcing the members to contribute ideas in the long run.

Thaaaaaat brings me to a new point and proposal. Once we have enough members, maybe implement an award system like Member of the Month, Character of the Month or something similar to that. A little extrinsic motivation may work in the early stage of site revival.

...Sooooo yeaup, that's all I have for now. I'll shamelessly leave my footprints again when I have more organized proposals to present.

Some quick problems i've identified:
1. Lack of staff, lack of players. These are self perpetuating issues.
I haven't been less active because of any issues with site mechanics themselves. It's because of the lack of players and lack of attentive, motivated staff. Staff need to set an example for players. Staff while I was around would frequently shirk their duties quite blatantly, and outright refuse to go against the grain or toy with anything that could get any resistance. The solution here isn't more flashy systems, it's a solid staff team that ROLEPLAYS ALONGSIDE the players, and is incredibly active to facilitate events like narration. And I cannot stress this enough, this may be one of the most important parts of the list. Mods can not be reluctant to participate in their duties. If even the staff doesn't want to play on the site, why in gods name do you think players would?

2. Upward Mobility.
Even the most experienced members on this site are still considered "early game" in terms of larger sitewide goals. This would be fine, if the majority of character developement here didn't revolve around progression. Characters are made and promised development as they traverse upwards through the ranks. The problem is, it doesn't happen. Nowhere near fast enough to be appealing or give any hopes of becoming of relative strength. There need to be STRONG players for the newbies to look up to, and there needs to be a genuine system that promotes the drive for upward mobility. The current systems can be so strict to choke out abuse that they strangle anyone hopeful of moving up. I'm not saying people need to become endgame, but im saying that literally everyone on the site is in the early-mid game rut with no hope of getting out.

In terms of the system itself, I think SP should come in larger quantities, but be worth less. I also think it may be a good idea to explore the idea of seperating money and SP, being able to do separate threads for each. This would promote individuality and specialization, instead of the top players being all essentially the same in terms of stats. I could go into specifics on how the grading system could be revamped, but this is a post for generalization.

2. Too much PVE, not enough PVP.
Now I don't mean PVP as in actual player combat, I'm saying there isn't enough player interaction and there's too focus on players going on missions and facing the enviroment. Positive and consistent player interaction is vital to creating an interest as it forges both character relationships and OOC social drive to continue roleplaying. Going along with upward mobility, and the previously mentioned saga sugguestions.
ARCS WILL FORM ORGANICALLY IF YOU LET THEM.
If you give players enough upward mobility, they will become strong themselves and accomplish goals. If a player moves upwards enough, and if the social and mechanic enviroment will reward them somehow for doing so, powerful players will make daring moves that will shake up the norm. However, there needs to be some sort of drive for them to do so. Meaning, there needs to be more site wide plot. Global threats. We need a faction system as well. On a site with more players, we could afford to use more PVE, but at this point there isn't enough player interaction.

These are deep underlying issues that aren't going to be solved with even perfectly refined and reworked systems. These issues are fundamental problems and need to be worked upon by a team of passionate staff, HEAVY advertising, and a possible restructure of the very site foundation. These are not quick fixes. There are no easy answers.

So that's my opinion on the matter.

That being said, if you need someone to take a leadership role in this vital period of time for the site, I'm going to be here for you.

Hey Keni, could you put the checklist of things we've discussed up on top, it's a bit hard to find as it is.

So, I'm posting here to note that this hasn't died. New systems or system revamps are being worked on in the staff section right now, but progress has been going slow.

Some of the things being actively worked right now include a system for Heaven's Arena and proposed revamps to various existing systems (such as items, grading, and nntechs) that I believe are the first step to creating a stronger foundation for our site. A lot of the suggestions made here still have yet to be officially proposed and developed, but it's become clear to me that one of the main issues we have is the small size of our staff.

As many good ideas as are proposed, it does little good if we only have a small handful of people capable and willing to work on implementing them. This goes for general activity on the site too, as one of the major roles of staff is supporting the member-base either by approving applications/adjustments or by making sure they have someone to roleplay with.

For this reason, I'm putting a request here for people that might be interested in supporting the site to send me a PM. Even if you're not fully confident in your knowledge of the system or in your ability to grade/narrate, that's fine - as long as you're willing to learn and to lend a hand when it comes to working on/implementing systems. I'm going to be on the lookout for two people, one archive mod and one game mod, to tutor.

For the potential Archive Mod, I would teach him/her how to review apps and adjustments and tutor them on how to create/critique hatsu. I would also expect them to take a role in working on and implementing some of the system revamps/proposals being worked on right now that would affect them (changes to Items, Hatsu, etc).

For Game Mod, I would assign him/her missions/threads to narrate for other members while I supervise/give advice. I would also like to discuss story and worldbuilding ideas with this person, and at some point perhaps work together with them to run a big story arc. This person would also be expected to lend a hand in developing IC systems (such as Heaven's Arena or a grading system).

If anyone is at all interested by this offer, please shoot me a message. Even if you're not interested in the tutor-deal but still think you might be of some use in getting the systems we're working on up and running, you're help would be welcome.
