Her trench coat billowing about her in the intense wind coming do from the higher elevation terrain before her, Wren stood at the base of the mountain. Climbing season had just begun, so she was far from alone, various other individuals dotted the mountainside. The location? The infamous Mount Miera of the Republic of Rokario, or to be more precise, one of the outskirt mountains, far less notable, but less menacing only in height. Still combatting the fierce air currents, Wren trudged up a ridge to an overlook, from which she could survey the mountain she hoped to climb. True to its reputation, the very mountainside itself was imposing and fierce in appearance, and even from a good 100 meters from the base of the mountain, Wren could already tell she was going to be in for a tough time. Darnit, now climbing this stupid mountain is going to be even more difficult. As she braced herself for the climb a tinge of distaste touched Wren’s features. Some may wonder why someone so devoid of any desire to climb a mountain might choose to do so? For many, the answer would be that they sought to test their limits, or perhaps to strengthen their fortitude, but neither was the case for Wren. Rather, her goals seemed far more selfish, or less inspired, but to her, they were a powerful driving force. What Wren sought was something uniquely available this time of year, and considered a delicacy so rare, it could only be bought at an incredibly high price: the egg of the honey eagle. Only present for a month each year, only one egg is laid by a honey eagle pair each year. This egg is guarded by the birds, each easily possessing a 10 meter wing span, not to mention talons and a beak that can easily tear through bone. While these facts could dissuade most, all Wren cared about was the acquisition of her prize, the egg itself. The egg had given the bird it’s name, and was said to be an exquisite treat, one of the most enjoyable sweets in the world. Loving the mere thought of sweet treats, resisting the pull of such a delectable object was not an option for Wren. Such a desire had fueled Wren’s journey, compelling her to travel across two continents, and even begin to scale the mountain before her. With great vigor, Wren leaped from her perch, sliding down the ridge and breaking into a run as she approached the mountain. Her dash drew to a slow jog as she closed the distance and began to prepare to ascend. It seemed she was faced with quite the conundrum, as before her there hardly seemed to be many options, with near vertical mountain face as far as she could see to either side. I suppose I’ll just have to search out a route. This is going to be such a drag… Those eggs better be worth it. Wren’s slow jog gradually continued to decrease in velocity, until she was standing completely still at the base of the mountain. Figuring that here was as good a place to start as anywhere, Wren reached up and grasped a rock jutting out above her, and pulled up beginning her ascent. Initially, each new foothold or crevice to be used in the climb seemed elusive, and the inexperienced climber Wren would search for what felt like ages before getting her grip and continuing. However, as Wren continued to slowly but steadily gain height, she began to develop a rhythm for her climbing, and her body acclimated itself to the difficult terrain in a slothlike manner. She could tell that her heart rate had increased slightly, but she found that regulating her breathing was still an action of ease, and that the cool temperatures were keeping her from breaking a sweat. Despite the challenge posed by the mountain, she had not quite yet begin to exert herself too much, and she figured at her current rate, she could continue for a while. After a good thirty minutes of climbing, Wren noted that the mountain had begin to flatten out slightly. The trend continued, and soon she realised she was transitioning from climbing to simply hiking. and as the ground continued to level, it came to her attention that she was actually standing on a flat ledge, something she had thought the mountain possessed little of. Evidently, such an occurrence was not something to avoid being exploited, and a small rest area had been set up in the area, which apparently must have been central to the climbing route. One exploratory entrepreneur had even set up a small bar, serving a variety of snacks and beverages, and several benches had been set up. While lacking the density in population the mountain’s base had possessed, the rest stop did still have a few guests, climbers laden with gear. Of primary importance to Wren, each table had a mountain map drawn on it. She doubted it would be updated to show the eagle's nest, but she hoped it would at least offer an idea of the general vicinity. Figuring she might as well take a break, Wren got a glass of lemonade, and then seated herself at a bench to take a brief breather and examine the map. You know, this hasn't gone half bad so far, I’m pleasantly surprised. |

That was it, the large mountain was in front of Kainen, it was a beautiful view. He could see the snow far at the peak, while from that point to the bottom of it trees and any other sort of mountain vegetation. Even though Kainen grown up in a hot almost desert like place, he likes every environment the world could offer, but since he is used to a hot place he still suffer from the cold of high places. This is the reason why he came with a winter coat, that protect all of his body. But he continues to wear his long red-blue bandana on his head, which was waving carryed by the strong and fresh wind. He came here driven by his challenging instinct, and from his desire of self-evaluation. His master told him to train himself on the basic and advanced nen techniques, until he will be ready for learning hatsu. -Well then, shall I begin?- Kainen was moving towards the mountain, he decided to practice Ten whenever he is just walking and he doesn't need any other technique, so that exercise himself resist using ten the more time as possible. Once he gets to a steep rocky side of the mountain he uses Shuu in order to protect the gauntlet, and making it much more powerful, allowing Kainen to easily pierce the wall. This way Kainen will safely and easily climb even the steepest wall, even though this results into a quite tiring exercise, and into a good training. Whenever he sense the presence of a creature or something new he actives Gyo in order to train himself to use it when something improvisely shows. Kainen don't even know exactly what tipe of wildlife live in this environment, and certainly he didn't come with the idea of taking high-cost eggs, meaning that earning money in this way doesn't really interests him. He was exploring the mountain, in fact Kainen arrived at the mountain much more before than Wren, but he had spent a lot of hours exploring and training himself. In his trip Kainen got finally into a less steepy face of the mountain, it was becoming a level pattern which was an easy walk towards it. He realized improviselly that some sort of shelter, which probably greets travelers and adventurers. -Finally a good place to rest, I need to take a break- In fact Kainen was tired enugh, and a pair of hour spent chatting and eating something was really wanted from him. Until now his past rests only concerned meditation about nen. Kainen got near to the shelter-bar and he released his Ten, and tooks a deep breath "Whooohh... Ok it's enough for now". He was thinking that one day he will use Ren instead, in order to train that instead -Damn, it will be extremelly tiring- But by the way, he reached the bar, and now he wanted to relax himself. Once he got a good and fresh fruit juice, he tooks a moment to see what people was there at the moment, and if there was someone interesting. Three mountaineer were drinking alchool and chatting togheter about some of their adventures, a pair of travelers were talking with the owner of the bar, then there was a dyed light gray/purple haired young girl alone. -Nobody is really interesting, let's see carefully-. He watched again all, but this time he was using Gyo in order to understand if some of these people was awakened. And his eyes stopped on Wren, the dyed light gray/purple haired young girl. She can probably notice the use of nen coming from Kainen. Edited by Kraddak, May 22 2015, 09:08 AM.

It had been weeks since Go Go had left the Rocky Mountain; home to the rare albatrosses that were being illegally hunted. He had done his best to see that they were safe and no longer in danger from extinction as a test to prove himself worthy of the Hunter's Exam. The boy worried that his work wasn't acceptable. Perhaps he hadn’t done a good enough job, or maybe he had exceeded some sort of time frame. There had been no communications from the Hunter’s Association since getting that assignment. It had arrived mysteriously in the town he was in that day. Go Go was constantly traveling and had no home. He hoped that future messages from the Association would manage to find him too. Nothing had come yet. What did it mean? It had been a week since the boy learned about honey eagles. He had met a Hunter by chance during his travels and explained his dilemma. “Don’t worry kid. It sounds like ya did a fair job with them birds. The Association’s probably just waitin’ to tell you yea or neigh cuz of somethin’ or other. It reminds me of somethin’ another hunter told me about a while ago…” The pro hunter reminisced about his brief experience with the single star gormet hunter Menchi. She had raced him up Mount Miera to find a honey eagle’s egg. “Them eggs is supposedly real good.” The man continued to explain how rare they were, and Go Go’s eyes widened. “You mean their endangered too? And hunters are part of the problem?!” He was incredulous. Why would he get such an assignment when hunters themselves were poaching eagle eggs for mere recreation? “Well I don’t rightly know about all that..” The hunter scratched his beard. “Not sure how many of them eagles there is..” “But only one egg a year! That’s it. I’ve heard enough.” Go Go threw down his chicken bone. “I’m going to Mount Miera!” He stood quickly and flew off with destiny in his eyes. A minute later he returned. “Where’s Mount Miera?” That had been last week. Now he stood at the mountain’s base with his hands on his hips. The ridges and peaks were very beautiful. He wondered if the eagles were pretty too. He flapped his wings and lifted up into the air. In a short amount of time he noticed a little break area with refreshments and tables. Go Go landed but before he folded his wings up, a strong gust of wind blew down from the cold mountain side and sent him backwards off the edge. “WAAAaaaaaaaaa!” He cried out before re-orienting himself and flying up again to grin at the people. |

While Wren was enjoying her brief respite, the moment of peaceful solace was to be short lived. Having only just finished locating the general whereabouts of the honey eagle nest on the map, and preparing to finish her beverage before continuing the climb, Wren was able to faintly detect an approaching presence. She was not alarmed, as she didn’t sense any hostile intent, but she was slightly wary of another nen user on the mountain. As the user approached the rest area, she didn’t bother to conceal her presence with zetsu or ln, as she hadn’t been concealing it before, and thus felt no need to change her pattern. Besides, any efforts of concealment would only spike the caution of the newcomer. Tilting her glass so that she could make out the newcomer’s reflection, she saw a coated figure with a bandana wrapped forehead and menacing gauntlets approaching. Noting his use of gyo, Wren chose to ignore him, as she had hardly come to pick a fight. Besides, a fierce mountain like this seemed like the type of place that could be reasonably expected to attract a plethora of individuals seeking opportunities to test themselves and augment their skills, so seeing another nen user was hardly a surprise. As long as he didn’t intend to steal her prize, Wren had no objection to his presence. In the moments that Wren was finishing up her analysis of the first new arrival, her musings were once again interrupted by a second new arrival. She felt a brief surge of concern as the winged boy seemed to momentarily topple over the edge, but as he managed to recover, such worry faded from her mind. More important to her was the fact that the boy had wings, something which, despite her own general lack of inspiration, remained an unusual enough sight that it was worthy of at least momentary further investigation. Not really concerned about the other nen user, Wren used gyo for an instant to briefly enhance her eyesight as she observed the young boy’s wings, having suspected them to be the hatsu. However such was proven not to be the case, meaning the wings were legitimate. Such a realization only served to heighten an already surging curiosity. Unable to restrain herself, Wren gulped down her beverage before disposing it in a can, and walking over to the winged child. Still bearing her usual deadpan expression, Wren continued to analyze the boy as she approached. She noted other unique physical traits, as well as attire and general appearance, however her focus remained on the kid’s wings. Noting the black feathers, it seemed to her as if the wings were suited for a large crow or raven, though she wasn’t sure which as she lacked experience in the field of ornithology. As much as Wren wanted to pose inquiries to the clearly unique individual, the general windiness of the mountain was far from conducive to writing on a notepad. Wren briefly attempted to use sign language to communicate, but seeing as the boy didn’t seem to understand (OOC: I’m pretty sure that’s a safe statement, seeing as neither character is mentioned as knowing sign language) decided to go for her third option. Holding up a finger for a moment to indicate that the boy should wait, she pulled her phone from a pocket, and began typing into the notes area. After a moment, she turned the phone such that it was facing him, and held it up to his face, displaying her written message. “I apologize for the rudeness in asking, however I must inquire as to the nature of your rather impressive wings.” After a moment, Wren realized she had forgotten proper manners in asking questions of strangers, and also felt obligated to offer some further elaboration to the boy. Hence, she once again motioned for patience, before typing a second message into the phone, before holding it up in a manner identical to the first. “Additionally, I regret that I must communicate to you through these means, however I have the great misfortune of being mute, so verbally communicating my ideas is hardly an option. Furthermore, as I believe it is customary to offer information when asking it, I shall introduce myself. My name is Wren, it is my pleasure to make your acquaintance.” OOC:

-Yes she is awakened, she is also pretty nice... And she is probably ignoring me- These was Kainen thoughs, he was drinking his juice silently. At this point he suppressed his aura, he was quite tired and need to stay in Zetsu for a while so that he could rest a bit. As he finished to drink he noticed another newcomer, who probably got the attention of everyone for some seconds. Probably nobody ever saw a winged kid, Kainen not for sure. But the fact that that winged kid was almost falling down from the mountain worried him, luckily that guy wasn't so unprepared and he stabilised himself. While most of the others just looked at the boy with surprise and after some seconds simply return on their own business, Kainen was really curious of him, and he decided to get closer to the winged kid. But he couldn't even make a step that the girl (Wren) was already moving towards the same destination. "Mph.." -It seems that anyway e will met afterall- So Kainen got slowly closer to them. Wren arrived near GoGo without saying a word, but making some sort of language signs, completelly not understandable to Kainen -She is kind of a strange girl... Ahh she may be mute?- "Hi there are you okay kid?" He referred to GoGo, at this point Wren showed her phone, which instantly showed her curiosity (almost grilling) at that guy. "Hey where do you left your manners?" He saied facetiously, in fact Wren took her phone again, and she was writing other things, meanwhile Kainen said. "But by the way, Wooah! Impressive raven's wings, I've never seen someone like you" he was smiling at the boy, at the same time he used gyo for a instant to understand if those wings were from Nen aura. -Nope, he is born with them... Incredible- "I'm Kainen, what's your name?" He asked gently to him, after he also referred to Wren with a smile "And what about you?". Wren answered his question, and also confirmed Kainen's thoughts. The message was quite formal, so Kainen answered politelly "Good morning Wren, it's nice to meet you" Edited by Kraddak, May 26 2015, 08:09 AM.

Go Go made sure to fold his wings quickly with the second landing. There was a pretty teenage girl who had approached and moved her hands in a special way…was she dancing? He smiled and cocked his head to the side. He had seen a mountain tribe do this too, only they were talking to each other with their hands and not dancing. After a moment she held her finger up and and Go Go watched as she meddled with her phone; her slender fingers moving in a mesmerizing way. “Hi there, you okay kid?” He looked up to see a man with a strange metal arm and his head was covered with a scarf like a gypsy. Go Go loved gypsys. He grinned and nodded just as the pretty teen showed him a message on her phone. His features scrunched in concentration as he read aloud. “My wings? Oh, I was..eh?” The girl was typing again. He glanced up at the gypsy man who commented on his wings. “Thank you! I’m the only one with wings like this I think.. I’ve been to many places and all the people I’ve met say they’ve never se—“ Go Go’s attention turned back to phone. This time he took much longer to read. He looked up at her with wide eyes after he read that she was mute. “That means you don’t speak, right?” His eyes traveled down to her lips and back up to meet her gaze again. Go Go remembered that there was more to her message and continued reading. “Wren.” He said and ruffled his wings a little. “Wren-san, it is very nice to meet you!” He bowed low. “Kainen…” The boy repeated to himself after the man introduced himself to them both. He looked from one to the other and pointed to himself. “I’m Go Go! I’m here to see the Honey Eagles.. do you know where they are?” He assumed these two friendly strangers might know, because why else would anyone climb this cold and intimidating mountain? Go Go had seen his fair share of landscapes and this had to be one of least inviting mountains he had ever seen..which was good for the Honey Eagles. The snack bar was a bad sign. Apparently, this placed was visited enough to warrant a small eatery. The boy hoped we wasn’t too late! Perhaps the poor birds were already extinct! |

Considering her new acquaintances, Go Go and Kainen, Wren contemplated an appropriate response to offer Go Go’s question. ]Well he seems innocent enough, so there’s no reason not to share what I know. Again, for a moment Wren’s fingers became a blur, as she rapidly typed into her phone. Concluding her typing, she held up her phone again, making sure both Go Go and Kainen were able to clearly see it. “As a matter of fact, I’ve just checked the map. It would seem that there’s a cluster of a hundred or so nests near the top of the mountain. However, I don’t recommend you go there unless you’re really sure of yourself. The Honey Eagles are particularly vicious this time of year, around fifty or so people have already been seriously injured or killed attempting to reach the nests. I’ve heard even the local wildlife shuns the area.” A grin growing on her face, Wren withdrew her phone, adding another comment to display. “Of course, that’s hardly going to stop me. You know what they say, the harder the challenge, the sweeter the reward. And the sweetest things are the best things.” At the mere thought of the delicious sweetness that lay waiting at the top of the mountain, Wren began to salivate, and a distant look came to her face. It took her a serious amount of restraint to stop from openly drooling, instead limiting her facial expression to a wacky smile. Looking at her phone, she noted that it was nearly 9:00 and she wasn’t even close to halfway up the mountain, worsened by the fact that she could only expect the climbing to get more difficult from here on out. Looks like I can’t actually waste anymore time, particularly if I want to reach the peak before nightfall tomorrow. Seems I’d best be leaving. Figuring she ought not to simply run off without offering some sort of explanation, Wren again rapidly typed a message into her phone. “I’m sorry to run so soon after meeting, but I really must be going in order to keep with my timeline. I suppose that if you’d like you could accompany me, but I really need to get going.” Having concluded her dialogue, Wren pocketed her phone, and turned away from the two, starting to walk, before transitioning into a light jog towards the mountainside. Veering off to the side of the rest area, Wren headed towards her chosen path. While it was far from the most direct, Wren had chosen it as a result of several other advantages it offered. For one, the slope of the path was much milder than that of the other areas on the mountain, with only a few areas steeper than 45 degrees. Additionally, following this path Wren had determined that she ought to be able to reach the highest rest area on the mountain at halfway up the mountain by nightfall, in order to get some rest. After all, regardless of her confidence, she had no intention of attempting to conquer the mountain at night. Particularly when, after the rest stop, one entered the general vicinity of the Honey Eagles, where one would become subject to their attacks. The smooth stones began to give way to a mixture of dirt, rock, and gravel which crunched beneath Wren’s boots as she approached the base of her chosen path. The wind picking up as well, Wren paused to tighten her wildly flapping trench coat, curiously turning to see if her acquaintances had followed her, as the unfortunate combination of wind and headphones had limited her ability to detect if she had been accompanied. |

Kainen had never heard about honey eagles. He wondered how those birds could look like, and he also wondered why Go Go was interested on them. -He said 'i'm here to see the honey eagles' does he really want to see some birds? He is kind of a brave boy, or maybe reckless, well he is nice then...- Anyway he answered his question "I'm afraid Go Go I don't know anything of honey eagles, I'm here for another purpouse" The situation became even more strange when Wren showed her phone. -Well then, am I the only ignorant one who doesn't know what are these birds? Why are so important? Maybe I should know more of this situation, so that I can understand what is happening up here... It seems that also Wren is interested in them, but she is talking about a challenge, she has a more precise target then Go Go- "I'm not afraid of some birds, I'll keep climbing the mountain anyway" Wren showed again her phone, this time she was saying that she was already moving, she had no time to waste. And she isn't really interested in having others following her, after some seconds she was already moving. "Go Go, are you going to follow her? She seems to know more about your 'honey eagles' maybe she has a precise pattern to follow" -But what about me? I'm here to train myself, if I follow them I can't simply use my Nen near this boy, or he will discover the Secret. But I find Go Go interesting, I should follow him, it may be an amusing company- Kainen was pretty sure that Go Go would decide to follow Wren, in that case he is going with them. (if Go Go decide to follow Wren) "If you want company I'm coming too, I came here to train myself, to face some danger, and having an adventure. So going togheter make the adventure better and more enjoyable" Kainen was honestly explaining his reason to why he came here, he only hidden the idea of training Nen. -I will only stealthy use Shuu while climbing, so that I can both climb safely and train that technique, by the way he can't notice it- Kainen doesn't have nothing against Go Go, but his master told him that only a worthy and good person should know the Secret and train his Nen, so Kainen isn't going to say anything about Nen to him for now. Kainen tried to make conversation with him "So... how old are you Go Go" Spoiler: click to toggle |

Go Go cringed inwardly when Wren mentioned "sweet rewards". Could this nice girl …be a poacher? He hoped not. Go Go remembered Kon-san, the boy who had befriended him and showed him the rare Albatrosses on the Rocky Mountain. He had made his intentions clear as they stood at the high cliffs where the birds nested, and things became tense quickly when Go Go had not agreed to help him capture an albatross. Kon-san tried to kill him and ended up falling off the cliffs to his own death. ‘No, I won’t let any harm come to Wren-san.’ He mentally promised. Go Go wasn’t sure how to protect the honey eagles as well as the girl, but he decided not to say anything yet. He didn’t want to deceive her but the boy was certainly not going to attempting to talk her out of it. Not after what happened to Kon-san. Perhaps Go Go would get to know her a bit better first, before convincing her of anything. He’d made up his mind to follow her before Wren-san had even invited him along. Her welcoming their company made things easier, and the boy was glad for it. Much to Go Go’s relief the young man didn’t seem to know anything about the honey eagles. He looked strong and he spoke rather kindly, winning the boy’s trust immediately. “I am going to follow her, yes!” He answered. The boy wondered why Kainen-san was on this fearful mountain if he knew nothing of the eagles and it was as if the young man with the metal hand had read his mind. Apparently he was simply there to test his strength. Go Go wondered at such audacity. ‘He must be pretty brave and strong to come here for the fun and adventure of it..’ It was an adventure.. Kainen-san was right! Go Go squared up his shoulders and hurried after the teen in the billowing trenchcoat. He liked her, and hoped it would all come to a good end..this adventure on Mount Miera. As stone became gravel and dirt Go Go caught up with the girl and walked behind her as the path was quite narrow. Within minutes, one side of it was a sheer drop off to the snack bar area below. Go Go adjusted his pack on his shoulders and glanced back at Kainen-san when he was asked about his age. “I’m twelve! How about you Kainen-san? Wait, let me guess. Hmmmm.” Go Go put a finger to his chin. “Twenty one! Am I right?” Go Go laughed and called up ahead to the girl. “Wren-san is younger then Kainen-san… I think you are….fifteen? Sixteen? I like your hat by the way!” A strong gust of wind suddenly blustered toward them and Go Go grabbed hold of her, probably a little too tight. He kept imagining her falling like Kon-san had. He wouldn’t have it. No way. |

Wren had to admit, she was more than a tad bit impressed by the resolve of Go Go and Kainen. To be completely honest, she hadn’t expected both of them to follow, but she supposed most individuals didn’t venture all the way to the mountain if they didn’t have at least a small measure of determination. As Go Go seemed to make idle chatter, mentioning age, Wren didn’t offer a response, rather grinning bemusedly. Wow, I thought this kid was young, but only a meager twelve is really young. Odd that someone of that age would be up here, but to each their own I suppose. Besides, that’s hardly the oddest thing I’ve seen. Wren didn’t respond, after all, she had just put her phone away and wasn’t about to bring it back out in order to succumb to small talk. However, she tried to keep her face expressive, as she didn’t want to give the impression that she was giving her new acquaintances the cold shoulder. When Go Go offered a slight compliment, Wren blushed ever so slightly in response, offering a subtle smile in reply. Well, he may be young, but he’s certainly quite the flatterer. A strong blast of wind buffeted Wren, and as she raised her right hand to secure her hat atop her head, she was shocked to find Go Go latched onto her. Well, this is most peculiar, considering his wings, this should be less threatening to him than anyone else here. And I know I’m skilled enough not to take a drop from wind alone. Perplexed by Go Go’s behavior, Wren pondered what the cause could be. She thought she sensed some sort of tension, but given the youth’s cheerful demeanor, she brushed it off, assuming any perceived tension was merely the result of minor paranoia on her own part. Figuring enough was enough, Wren awkwardly squirmed her way out of Go Go’s grasp. Curious as to Kainen’s whole take on this matter, Wren turned to him, noting that he was still generally restraining his nen. It seems like he’s just along for the ride, as part of his own personal training. Freed from Go Go’s grip, Wren gestured for the two to follow her as she took off at a healthy jog, continuing up the now narrow path. While she had selected a moderate path, such ease was only by comparison to the rest of the mountain, and the path continued to steepen as she progressed. Before long, the incline was nearly forty-five degrees, and Wren found herself forced to slow her pace to a hearty hike. With wind and path conditions drastically worsening as well, Wren waited for a slight lull in the treacherous terrain, before pulling off to the side for a moment and abruptly halting. Removing her hat, Wren placed it into her bag, determined not to lose it to the elements. Without the cap to secure it, Wren’s hair began flapping somewhat chaotically in the mountain currents, but it was worth it to her if it ensured a reduction in the risk of losing her hat. I didn’t expect mountain conditions to deteriorate so quickly. Maybe I should let the others take the lead, since I’d feel better knowing I could catch them if they start to fall. I’ll see if Kainen wants to take up the lead, he seems like the more experienced climber of the two. Replacing her bag on her shoulder, Wren turned gesturing at Kainen, indicating that he should take the lead, and that she would be holding the back. |
