Just heard about a typhoon or something. It was about 60% smaller than Katrina or something, but still not good. If I remember right, we have a member from that area. I truly hope Nwahs is alright. I still haven't a report on how many died in this typhoon. Maybe others here know more of the details. |

The last number from the UN I've read is 4460. I didn't really follow the news surrounding the event, though, so that's about all I know. |

Have you noticed that everytime there is a natural disaster somehow relief aid is prevented in getting to the area it is needed? |

I'm alright, in fact, Singapore has to thank Indonesia and the Philippines for blocking all the water-related natural disasters away. The fact that the media has been heavily covering Typhoon Haiyan comes off to me as kind of odd, the Philippines gets hit by typhoons every damn year, why hasn't that been a more heavily reported trend? @B-29: what tends to happen is that too much donations (and I mean useless donations like clothes and shoes and blankets and expired medicine) are donated, and aid and relief workers are forced to spend time sorting out these nonsense that really is unnecessary. |

Oh, Singapore is quite a distance from Philippines, for some reason I always think...ah well, doesn't matter what I think, but I definitely need to restudy my map again lol Also, I've always thought that they got hit by Typhoons a lot, but they made it sound like it was such a big deal this time, so I thought it worse this time. Weird media. |

It is a big deal this time because this is the biggest typhoon/hurricane to ever hit landfall, with wind speeds going over 235 mph. This was devastating for the Philippines and the death toll is reported to be up over 3200. This is so heartbreaking and I really wish the best for everybody affected by this tragedy. Mother Nature's a total bitch. |

I'm like a self-confessed geography geek, and yeah Singapore is a way from the Philippines. But yeah, a typhoon Is really bad, I hope it all gets better over there. (The most likely thing I'm going to get is a minor hurricane or a tornado or gale. Sincerely, me. |
