This news saddens me. When I was young and impressionable Clancy's Cold War Era writing kind of launched my career in Russian history. His books, and later his movies held a fascination for me. Now I look back at them and correct the badly spoken Russian, and can critique what Clancy got wrong and what he got right on the nose, he still will go down as one of the influential writers of the age. His bringing the espionage and Special Operations genres to the late 20th and 21st century popular culture gave many people an excuse to do something that is sadly neglected by much of the population today - read.

This is sad news. My dad was always a big Tom Clancy fan and in the last couple years I've read many of his books. He was a good writer, he always knew how to keep someone turning the pages to find out what would happen. |

I read Red Storm Rising. Good book. This is a conspiracy! The Soviets killed him for knowing too much! Edited by B-29 Bomber, Oct 2 2013, 01:45 PM.
