This feature would be more for servers. The formula is 4 gold+1 paper= currency. It would be 1 paper in center, one gold above that, one gold below, one to the left, and one to the right. You can customize them, too. Similar to the mechanic for wooden signs. |

It would be interesting, but only practical if Minecraft were somehow made into a MMORPG or something, because currency is unnecessary among small groups of people playing together. |

Now that gold nuggets have uses, I played on a server where those were used. It worked fairly well, the difficult part was setting up an exchange rate.

I agree that there is no real use, as of yet, for currency; I myself like the idea of trading goods for goods, but i can see that maybe sometime in the future that currency could be useul, ergo, i would then agree with your paper money mod thing, (which i could so easily create)
