So in my school, at the end of assembly they say, "Let's all do the lords prayer." I, am not of any particular religous belief, and have come to the terms of being either agnostic or athiest. But they make us. Yet, Everywere i point says it's illeigal. But our school hasn't got sued. I live in the UK (wales to be specific) Is it just in America? LOL when i work out the courage I might stage a protest. All mics n' stuff. So is it Worldwide or just in america? |

It would make sense at a Catholic School, but it sounds like you aren't going to one. |

I go to a mission school actually, and people do lead our school in prayer during assembly, but those who are not christian do not have to pray. Basically, it is not mandatory. |

Well, in the U.K. you don't have a formal separation of Church and State. I know that there is an official Church of England. However, I'm pretty sure in a progressive enough country like the U.K. they can't force you to pray in school. If you feel strongly enough about it, refuse to do it. If you don't feel that strongly or don't want to make a big fuss, just go along with it and when you get home watch The Amazing Athiest to feel better, haha. |

What could you expect? The U.K's national anthem is still called God save the King/Queen! But I agree that the U.K is still more secular than most countries (hint to U.S.). |

I feel there is a very definitive separation between church and state here. The only things that I don't like is that some Conservative states teach creationism in their public schools. Kind of a weird and sort of annoying thought to me, evolution seems to be the more sensible thing. |

People in America tend to forget that America is a secular nation, not a Christian one. Many neo-conservative fundamentalist Christians in America manipulate their constitution to support their own horrible deeds. All the things that I see in the news about America these days (rise of neo-conservatives, hate-mongers, fox news and tea party) just disgust me. Back to the original point: If you are in a public school in america (or really any secular country), and you are being forced to pray against your will, you should speak out. Well, It's not so much that, because the just make you bow your head in my comprehnsive school (Juniorhigh-High) but it my primary(Elementary) they made us and even had a preist lecture us. She even called me up (My head) when i wasn't doing it. yeah, Say Christianity was new, everyone'd think it was rediculous. But it's been around for 2000 years. But I think it will soon fade away because in RE everyone always questions religion, and with all the science lessons we've had, Christianity will be gone in about 3-6 generations ahead. But not religion, because Muslims and Hindus etc. are more 'inact' with their religion. |

The painful thing about religion these days (specifically Christianity) is that they are led by fundamentalists who never seem to understand that science has more or less proven creationism or any 'young earth' theory wrong. They will attack any form of science, just because it doesn't fit their own scriptures. What next, 'I don't believe in Physics' ? This ignorance never ceases to amaze me. Even Iran, known for being quite the 'theocracy', has an cloning program. While some states in the US is debating over teaching evolution or 'intelligent design'. Just tells you how 'modern' the US is, eh? |
