Welcome to Horundul. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Horundul is a free-form fantasy, play-by-post role playing game based around an original world that is developed upon everyday, and has been (forum's age aside) for nearly five years. With a deeply developed story and well thought-out geography and history, Horundul is a world you'll surely want to inhabit.

Be sure to read the rules and browse the references (see the upper left hand corner of the screen). Hope you will join! I'm sure we would enjoy having you.

This is a dictionary-like reference for the technologies in Horundul.

Clockwork - Clockwork is a range of technologies from clocks (duh) to weapons and defenses. This tech uses a combination of magic and simple machinery (gears, springs, etc.) to achieve self-perpetuating and/or complex machines. The most notable of Clockwork inventions is the Clockwork Child.

Clockwork Children - Clockwork Children are semi-sentient beings, all built from the design of the original (Wynn), who was turned into a human girl by the envoy of Rae. They are autonomous but follow orders, can supposedly not feel pain, and have the ability to cast powerful spells. Most people treat them with disgust.

Crystai attachments - Attachments to Crystai that give the user certain bonuses. Several can be attached at once, but the more that are attached, the more they lose their potency. Certains ones are used almost by everyone, while some are incredibly difficult to obtain.

Explosives - One of the few things in Eborl that do not run on Crystai. Explosives resemble Earth's, using TNT, and small hand grenades. They are created by simple chemical reactions, and are not super powerful. Crystai based explosives are similar to Earth's nukes, and have been outlawed for obvious reasons.

Firearm - Firearms in Horundul are sleek in design and covered in runic lines and symbol to channel magic from the user and the air to accelerate the projectile, unlike the blockier weapons in our world. The more powerful the shot, the more energy it takes from the user. They are a more recent invention for humans (the first dating long after the Elemental Wars), but there is evidence suggesting that Runiks had been making them long before.

The most important thing to note is that firearms take a lot of energy to wield because they drain magic from the user. Each shot you fire costs you a bit more energy. Firing an Airsoft gun would take the energy equal to jogging for about five minutes, while firing something akin to a Marine-quality sniper rifle would take the energy of running half a mile. This varies from person to person depending on fitness, magical ability, and their familiarity with firearms, and yes, the examples are a bit of an exaggeration. The point with this attribute of firearms is to make swords and firearms equal; you can't just take a Gatling and mow down everything in your path.

However, there are firearms that do not bear the setback of magic. There are some rifles and handguns that are based on an older, undeveloped technology: gunpowder. Guns of this type are considered musket-type technology (with a lack of enclosed propellant, but with modern barrel rifling).

Guns - Similar to Earth's guns, Eborl has access to firing bullets. While they cannot kill with a single shot, the Eborlians favor them as weapons for their quick firing and aiming abilities. Only Mechry Patrol are allowed to have machine guns, which can kill in a matter of seconds. The guns are powered by Crystai, and will fail after a certain number of shots.

Mechroids - Eborl's very own mechanized race. These massive robots rule the lands, having taken over what was once human land. They have since heavily evolved and become more high tech. Master Mechroids, are large robots, constantly pumping out smoke, but are very powerful. Certain Mechroids also take the form of humans, animals, and monsters. It is possible to convert living beings into Mechroids also. They are generally referred to as "Mechry" which is slang, mixing the words Mechroid, and Crystai.

Plateleather - Plateleather is an old but expensive armor technology. Through the use of complicated chemical magics, flexible pieces of chain-mail-reinforced leather and solid, steel plate armor are created that are usually formed into full suits. Most suits are even given reinforcements by way of magic and magically-created composite materials, giving them the ability to protect against high-speed bullets and powerful spells. It is considered the peak of current armor technology in Horundul

Runetek - Runetek is a slang term for "Runik technology" that encompasses all technology based off of or derived from Runik relics. Firearms, many magical items, and high quality armor are all considering Runetek.

Shock absorber - A rather common Eborlian crystai attachment. It allows use of blimps, as when being into the sky, they are not killed. It

Vehicles - While vehicles do not play a large part in Horundul, the magically powered vehicles being few and far between, and most simply relying on their noble steeds, vehicles are a large part in Eborlian life. Eborl has perfected many different type of transportation, such as trains, blimps, ships, and on the rare occasion, personal motor vehicles.
Most vehicles run off of fuel, as well as Crystai, with the exception of Blimps which only run on Crystai. Trains are the most common use of transportation, being cheap as well as publicly available, and can get a person from one side of the country to the other in just under a day. They are by far the most used type of transportation in the country.
Eborlians also have taken to the air over the years. Air travel is by far the fastest, although is unpopular, as it is difficult to use. Public zeppelins never land, and in order to get onto one, a person must take what is known as a sky bridge, and climb on board. Most do not have the stomach for this procedure. Sky bridges are fast moving streams of condensed air, that have enough concentrated particles so that a person may walk upon them. This is tricky, and it is very easy to fall off. Personal blimps also exist, being much smaller in size. These are often called air ships, and can be taken off and landed when the owner pleases, rather than taking a sky bridge. Yet the air ships are expensive, and are a luxury, so they are often unused unless you can build your own.
Ships are also a bigger part of life. Refined over the years to be able to sail through the Oceans of Inferno, they can be used to get around on the outsides of the country, to get to the smaller islands around, as well as moving from various port to port. They are useful for short travels across the coast.
Personal motor vehicles also exist, although they are a top class luxury. Some of the purer Crystalline use them, and those in Government. Some of these vehicles are affixed with machinery, for various purposes such as building or mining for Crystai.
Vehicles, while hard to come across or buy, can be made by many tinkerers, being able to build the machines with ease. Still though, one must have a license to build a vehicle, as well as drive or pilot it.
