The Keeper of History

Horundul has always been a violent place. Its history is written in blood, since the clash between the angel Genes and her brother Armej, the clash that brought about the rise of human civilization, the Trinity, and the Order of Three. Human civilization had only sprouted when that colossal battle scarred half of the planet, turning one side of it into a frozen, barren wasteland. The planet is not that different from Earth; it has one moon, an average-sized sun, seasons, even magnetic poles. Human life is a key factor as well, that is where this story begins. Nearly six thousand years ago, the great angel and demon fought for the fate of the world; Genes struck her brother down as he gave unto her the touch of death. From her tears came Wrain... from her heart came Seilv... from her wings came Rae. The Trinity of Seilv, Rae, and Wrain is that of deities, mighty, divine creatures that watch over humanity's well being. They gave man but one thing to live by: Do evil not unto others nor thyself. With society budding, small villages soon turned to towns, towns turned to cities, cities turned into rotten slums that spanned the horizons. Corruption spread decades after the Trinity ascended back into the heavens. The rich became greedy, the poor became desperate, and those already vile began changing into something inhuman, a threat to all sentient life. For this, man was to be punished. After two thousand years the gods descended upon the people. From the palace, the center of the capital of human civilization, the mighty empire known today only as Archetype, they descended, sparking lightning, fire, and poisonous gas. Wrain, the dark beast burdened with the sins of man, created a crater as he landed. Miasma poured from his mouth, the wrath of a god draining the life from the people. Rae, golden phoenix, that which beheld the forces of Sola itself, glowed with such ferocity as to blind anyone who laid eyes upon him. Seilv, the blood-red dragon of earth and sky, struck lightning and cracked the ground as he roared, deafening the sinful. And as their wrath descended upon those around them, a mighty explosion shook the foundations of Horundul. Powerful enough to ignite a portion of the atmosphere, the great shockwave destroyed all but the farthest reaches of Archetype, setting the event known as the First Fall of Man. Those who survived were mostly uncorrupted and had prayed for all forgiveness; most were not spared, however. The living took it upon themselves to build not a single empire but several, and peace settled upon the land for a time of almost three thousand years. But alas, fate had already shown mankind's aptitude for not heeding the word of the Trinity, and would again, as a new act of heresy took society's greatness from it: demonic worship. Armej's body had laid to rest on the hemisphere of Horundul opposite that which would contain the great first kingdom of Archetype. His corpse festered, his rotting wings erupting into Yrin, a giant decaying bat, symbol of corruption; his cold, black heart slithered from his chest, creating Raiv, venom-producing snake of power; his blood coalesced into a dark, serpentine dragon, Frein, the harbinger of judgment. Trapped by the Trinity back into the daemonic plane, they vowed to return and bring death and destruction. That they did. On a day in the most comfortable time of all seasons arose a group of cultists who pledged to raise their daemon idols. From their ritual came more than they bargained for. The Order of Three: Frein, Raiv, and Yrin; arose as did their millions of dark hordes. Death and destruction laid waste to the nations, a war that was waged for nearly 400 years. Then, as soon as they had arose, the Order vanished, leaving armies upon armies of vile creatures to annihilate humanity. It took almost a century to destroy the armies of the Dark Plane. If not for the assistance of the armies from the Southern Continent, passing over the Belts of Sola on the rare, week-long event of a full solar eclipse, the northern continent would have been doomed to suffer eternal hellfire from the constant flow of daemonic armies. From that arose peace; the elemental tribes that made up most of the Archetype hemisphere of Horundul formed alliances, and a short war ended with a treaty known simply as the Treaty of Peace. From this came the collective union of the Elemental Nations, a group of seven countries: three republics, two kingdoms, and two shared territories. These great countries locked into a state of prosperity, overshadowed only by the dark remains of Archetype: a black empire that conquered under the name of the Arche Kingdom. Its borders grow every day, but a mysterious group of warriors has risen in the Elemental Nations that shall prove to challenge all of the empire's greedy ways... And possibly the power of every army ever created. Edited by Fission, Jan 20 2009, 09:41:31 PM.
