"GET TOGETHER PEOPLE!" One of the Grand mages yelled, as a group of the most powerful mages in all of Horundul grouped together, forming a straight line for miles, together blocking what would be the entire width of the Elemental Unity, their country. It had been earlier in the week that a traveler from the Ancient plains, a destroyed land to the North, had come rushing into the Grand forum, the center of the Government in the Unity, desperately trying to warn them of a coming flood. While his warnings were discarded, several Unity mages, powerful mages that worked under the control of the Unity, looked into the issue, finding that the Great Tundra to the North, a frozen land that few could live in that was created thousands of years before by the Gods, was indeed melting, and in a matter of days would release a sudden flood of water that would be enough to totally wash away the Unity, even at it's great distance. Since then, the mages had been gathering at Hydric, the Northernmost nation in the Unity, building a barricade of mages, ready to combat the water. The line of mages stood strong, with the Unity mages in the center, and the figure of all of the Unity mages, The Supreme Unity mage, one of the most powerful men in all of the lands. "GET READY MEN!" The Supreme shouted. The ground started rumbling ahead as a gigantic torrent of water washed across the land. The water was as tall as mountains, carrying dirt, debris, as well as demons from the Ancient plains. As the water neared, large portions of the line started fleeing, in fear that they could not stop the waters. Those mages who remained stood strong in the face of danger. The line started casting spells, deflecting the water to their sides, sending it to the next mage. The water slowly was being diverted around the Unity, protecting it and its thousands of inhabitants. The Supreme mage in the center, was protecting the people from the waves that reached around the barrier, mainly above them. Many watched as water covered the skies of the Unity, the Supreme mage diverting half the flood by himself. The waters continued to pour towards the wall, breaking through on several areas. They continued to hold their positions, as slowly the waters started to slow, most of the mages falling to the ground in the waist deep waters. The cities all over the Unity, while flooded, were not flooded deeply. It would take a great deal of magic to fix most of the areas, as well as clean the water, although no one was actually hurt. The mages though who had just deflected an ocean of water though, laid exhausted at the front lines, medics rushing out to aid them. Just to the South of them though, laid the Belt of Sola. An unihabited fiery land. Because of this, no one gave it a second thought on protecting it, as life could not survive in it. As the cold Tundra waters washed around the Unity, the desert quickly became flooded with its freezing waters. The extreme heat, mixed with the sudden cold and weight of the water, caused the entire desert to fold under itself, revealing an ancient network of underground tunnels, now canyons. Just North to the Unity, they felt this, their cities rumbling as the massive desert collapsed. Small towns fell apart, the rocks splashing into the waters below, while the mages in cities who had not helped divert the water tried to keep it together, although ultimately failed, as many of the buildings were destroyed. For most, this was a sign. What they took of the sign was up to them. Their homes now laid wrecked and flooded, their cities destroyed, and for some, their love ones lost. But what they didn't know, was that as they panicked over their situation, there was a country to the south, a country that had never made contact with the Unity. This country was without magic, but instead had the power of technology. This country was fueled by machines and crystals. And this country also watched the desert fall, and was on their way to investigate. |

"She's really going to do it, huh?" "She thinks her magic's strong enough that we don't even have to evacuate the base." "Fortunately, command's a bit more pragmatic, but I guess she just can't pass up a challenge. I mean, you don't get many chances to fight a tidal wave." "Knowing her, she might just win." "And if she doesn't?" "I guess that's what the wetsuit's for." "Clever, but I don't think the snorkel will do her any good." Amber Powers stood in the middle of the desert, facing North. A few meters to the South was Fireball Base, so named supposedly because it was close enough to the Belt of Sola that it'd burst into flames every summer if it weren't for a series of protective wards. Even in times of war many considered it to lack any strategic value, enough so that some believe its that something of importance is hidden beneath it. It was just conspiracy theory as far as Amber knew, but it wasn't strategic value that had Amber out here. From the North came the rushing tide. Amber, clad in black, knew that her thankless sweating would soon come to an end. She adjusted her goggles, kicked the sand off her flippers, and drew her sword. "Bring it." Energy crackled over her sword as the earth began to tremble. Swinging it down over her head, she cut a shimmering swath in the air in front of her. Holding her sword two-handed, she focused her power and expanded the swath into a massive wedge around her. The wedge spread out and elongated, covering as wide an area as possible. Amber's world quaked as the flood waters smacked into the field. The wedge held, parting the rushing tide in front of her. Amber laughed maniacally. "I'm doin' it, Mama! I'm totally doing it! Ha ha! They're gonna call me Amber the Floodbreaker! Yeah!" Her excited cachinnation ebbed into a nervous chuckle as the glow around her sword faded. "Oh, shi-" Amber's world was suddenly very wet, very cold, and moving very quickly. Everything was a damp, freezing, chaotic blur. Her back hit the wall, but it didn't help her stay put. She wasn't sure if she went through it or up it, but there was debris flying all over. Somehow, she managed to grab hold of something sturdy and clung to it for dear life. It was something long and narrow and not very rigid. She could feel it bending with the force of the water, and she hoped to Genes that it wouldn't break. Soon the rushing tide stopped, which only meant that whatever she was holding on to could resume its normal position, which it wasted no time doing. Once Amber's world stopped vibrating, she opened her eyes. The fogginess of her goggles had to be deceiving her, so she pulled them off. She was on top of the flagpole in the middle of the base, high above the tallest structure. The base was a giant kiddie pool, with the occasional soggy demon writhing in agony. The desert had turned to mud as far as the eye can see, but steam was already rising from it. And flapping in the breeze next to her, steaming in the heat, was the Unity's flag. Amber laughed hysterically. She saluted the flag and was preparing to climb down when the desert shook anew. Fearing the worst, she put her goggles back on and renewed her grip on the pole. This time, however, she shaking was accompanied by a monumental crash from the South. She whipped her head around and again was so shocked by the sight she lifted her goggles for a better look. The desert was sinking. Before her disbelieving eyes, the desert crumbled. At first, pits were forming as sand funneled into the invisible tunnels below. But as more and more rock gave way, the faster and wider the pits became until all the sand simply fell away. Eventually, there was just one, massive sandfall tumbling over what could only be described as the edge of the world, now but a few clicks away from the base. As Amber's mind boggled, her stated of fascination could only be summarized by one word. "Whoa..." |

---Eborl--- Just south of the desert, in the country of Eborl, in the city of Aren, many watched the sinking desert. Their weather gadgets had warned that there would be flooding activity, although no one had guessed that this would be the case, as water splashed onto the on lookers, even from a mile away. The water was not nearly powerful enough to destroy any of the tall strong goldenrod buildings, but the quake did send some of the shorter weaker buildings to the ground. The Mechry in the Stronghold, the castle of Aren, simply looked at the collapsing desert, fearing the worst. Deep down under the surface though, there was an entirely different story going on. The UG, an underground city, was quickly collapsing, rocks falling to the ground, and the entire north district coming down, right under the Belt of Sola. Despite being banished from the world above, people started fleeing to the safety of the surface. Although, even in this time, the Mechry patrol did not care enough to catch the lawbreakers, simply watching the massive piece of land collapse. Talk quickly began of what laid across it, as no one had ever been able to travel across the desert, its intense heat killing any and all who dared to enter. The mass just stood and waited, watching the chaos in the new canyon. ---Horundul--- The waves had completed their passing, and the quake had finally ended, leaving many Horundians laying on the ground in defeat. Some people though began to start cleaning up the debris, getting ready to rebuild. In the Grand Forum though, other things were happening. All of the Unity mages were summoned for an emergency meeting, and had to report to the Grand council immediately. The massive crowd sat before the Council, all unsure on what to do. It wasn't until the Supreme Mage arrived that he started the meeting. "Greetings, to all my fellow practitioners of magic. What we have just witnessed today was a horrible tragedy. But I thank you all, for without you, we would not have been able to survive such a flood. The prophecies have told us nothing about such an event, same as the Falls of Man." Panic began to ensue in the crowd at the possibility of a Fourth Fall of Man, but they were quickly silenced by the Supreme mage, who hade his hat tilted down so that his face could not be seen. "But we do not believe that the Fourth Fall is upon us, so we ask you not to panic." He paused for a moment, before lifting his large wide brimmed red hat, and casting it to the ground. "But what I do know is that the Belt of Sola has collapsed! That means that travel across it is possible, and there is a possibility of new lands!" Many in the crowd gasped at the idea. "So, I am going to send out all of the Grand Mages to investigate, before the civilians get any ideas, and to make sure it is safe. I already have several mages heading that way towards it, and if anyone else would like to come, feel free." Many mages in the crowd started cheering and getting up. "But, I may want to warn some of you, that this could be incredibly dangerous. We have never seen these lands, and they could be filled with the might of Armej himself. They could easily be a hellish plane of fire, and you might die the second you step in them, bursting into flames." Many sat down again. "I must be off then. Council, I leave this to you." The Supreme mage said, standing up and leaving. "Wait." The eldest of the Council members, Lord Vak of Gralden, said, putting his hand on the Supreme Mage's shoulder. "Are you going to the desert?" Stopping, the Mage turned back to Vak, and stared him in the eyes. "No. I can't right now. There are other matters to attend to." "And what of the-" "You are not to speak of the writings of Genes at this time. When the Heroes arise, they will. Each one will play their part, and this will be done." Vak was about to say something before the Mage swung his cape around, vanishing in an instant, leaving Vak to deal with the mages. ---Belt of Sola--- "Come on men." Sin, told his followers, leading them across the little bit of grassy lands before they made it to the Belt. Many of them were complaining about the heat, although Sin himself appeared not to be affected by it. "Can we stop, I'm so-" The mage didn't even get to finish his sentence as Sin had already frozen him into a solid block of ice. He lit him on fire, melting the ice, and healed him, giving him a sharp look. The mage didn't speak again. "Alright. We are almost at Fireball. Any of you that need to take a break, I suggest that you do." He said, bringing his group to the base. There were only ten of them in total, including Sin, and the base was not exactly huge, based on the fact it was rather unused. Since there hadn't been a war in years, they had mainly just sat at the desert, probably warding off any demons, or fighting any thieves. The group looked at the soaked base before cautiously wandering inside. Sin however went to the back of the base towards the Belt of Sola, and looked across it. "There is life over there... I know it." He muttered to himself, curious if he should go across by himself. He looked back at the base, knowing he should wait for his companions, or else Arke would have his head. Being one of the few people to actually know the Supreme Mage by name, he knew this fact to be true, and he continued to lean against the back of the base alone. "Quite a sight, isn't it?" It would seem Sin wasn't quite as alone as he thought. A few feet from where he languished stood what appeared to be a faye-looking young man in a pair of tan slacks and a button-down shirt, one leg up on a rock. From the voice, though, it could easily be a woman. Few men could get away with jeweled chokers, either. She turned towards Sin, standing at attention and saluting. "Captain Amber Powers, Fireball Base," she reported. "I hope you'll forgive the civvies, sir. Armor can bake you alive in this heat." |

"Yes, I guess it can be rather hot." He said, looking completely cool. "Well Mrs.Powers, I can see that you did not evacuate the base as you were advised, but it is good to see that the base is still standing." He waved towards the base, showing seemingly little regard for the members at the base. Sin normally thought that the base was a waste of a resource, but for once it was actually proving useful. "Based on current events Mrs. Powers, I can say that you may want to start expecting a promotion in the near future." He told her, without looking at her. He knew in his gut that there was something across the desert, and whether it be friendly or not, the base would be of much use. He turned towards her, saluting her back before quickly drawing his sword, and slashing just over her head. He pulled her back with magic throwing her violently behind him, as he started an incantation. A demon that had been washed up, and managed to survive, had moments before been poised and ready to strike. Its long jaw dislocated, showing that it could eat Sin whole, and planned to. "I summon forth the fiery power of the ancient god of the suns, Obliteration!" He yelled casting out his hand, several rings of runik energy surrounding him before blowing the demon apart. He looked at Amber for a moment before turning to go inside the base. "Oh, and how could I be so rude. I am Sin Tekinokashibi, Grand Unity Mage, First Class." He said slightly bowing, although not even bothering to help Amber up before continuing his walk inside. ((Lol, Sin has air conditioning in his armor, just to explain why he isn't hot.)) |

Amber was going to inform Sin that "Mrs." was hardly appropriate, as she was unmarried, and even if she was the proper salutation was still "Captain," when she was interrupted by Sin's sword passing over her head. Mentally cursing herself for not paying attention to the demon coming up behind her, she reached for her choker to summon her armor, only to be interrupted again as Sin threw her behind him. She found herself on her butt watching her savior as he obliterated the monster. "Charmed I'm sure," Amber said sarcastically as she watched Sin march into the base. 'And they say chivalry is dead.' She stood up, brushing the wet sand off her behind, and followed him in. "A Grand Unity Mage, huh? I take it you're not here just for the sight-seeing. If you're going into the canyon, I must request to come along. A band of mages you may be, but you might want some steel along in case magic fails you." |

Sin stopped and pivoted towards Amber drawing an incredibly long 12 foot sword, seemingly from no where. "I am pretty sure this is steel. If it is not, I have sadly been ripped off, and I must kill the one who has made this sword." He put it back, the length of the blade vanishing as he sheathed it to a meager foot at most. The sword itself was actually quite puzzling since Sins arms were not 12 feet, and it would have been impossible to actually pull it out that much so quickly. He didn't care much for explaining it though. "But I don't want you getting in the way of me or my men, so-." He said, his head slightly turned back to her before one of Sins men walked into him. He pushed him back, slamming the man against a wall. "First of all, what? Second of all, watch your step. Next time a sword could go through your foot." He hissed. "Yes sir! Umm... It looks like the civilians have started coming out! We need to go now!" He frantically spurted. Sin nodded and the man went to go get the others. "Powers, if you want to come, come. We need to get in there before the greater population of the Unity foolishly wanders in. Make sure there is nothing dangerous. LET'S GO MEN... And girl." |

Amber stopped in her tracks as Sin drew his sword. Other than a brief, startled look, she didn't seem particularly intimidated. She was admittedly impressed he could handle something so large so easily, and could only assume magic allowed him to conceal it so well. After he put it away she continued to stand at ease, with her hands behind her back. She was quickly seeing what sort of man Sin was, as he strong armed a careless subordinate. However, time was now of the essence, as the Canyon of Sola had to be secured before it could reaffirm its status as a public hazard. Amber had figured most creatures wouldn't have survived the collapse, but the creatures that did were the ones you needed to look out for. "Powers, if you want to come, come," Sin said. "We need to get in there before the greater population of the Unity foolishly wanders in. Make sure there is nothing dangerous. LET'S GO MEN... And girl." Most of the men turned to go, but one did a double-take in Amber's direction. He gave her an odd look and said, "Are you sure that's a girl?" "Not voluptuous enough for you?" Amber inquired, raising an eyebrow. "We can't all be Frank Frazetta paintings, you know." "Er, no, no," the mage floundered. "It's just..." "The haircut's regulation," Amber explained. "It doesn't get much longer, anyway. And I could wear a chain mail bikini, but I'd most likely die from overexposure around here. The rest is what my mama gave me." She narrowed her eyes. "You're not dissin' my mama, are you?" "Oh! No, no!" the man explained. "It's just that even as a man, you're very attractive. Not that you're mannish by any means, but if you were man, you'd look like one of those men who look..." Amber smiled an amused smile to herself as she marched past the pathetic mage, leaving him to stammer meaninglessly to himself. He quickly came to an awkward silence and hurried after the rest of the troupe. |

Sin brought his men and Amber out to the edge of the cliff. "This is where everything begins. He jumped off the edge, despite it being a fall that would kill anyone stupid enough to simply jump. At the peak of his jump however he teleported, slamming into the ground below, kicking up mounds of dust and sand. Runes suddenly lit up under his feet, and created a circular visible tunnel of wind blowing upwards above the cliff. A few of his men looked at it and backed up, slightly afraid of it. "Jump in. It will slow your descent and you will not be harmed." "I don't trust him. That guy is an asshole." One of the mages near Amber said to another. "Yeah, he may be an ass, but he is one hell of a magician. Have you seen what this guy can do? I hear he once disemboweled a dragon with his bare hands, only to strangle it to death with its own intestines while clogging its mouth up with its other organs that he was chopping out at the same time, so that it wouldn't breath fire at him." The other said, although still looking slightly afraid of the wind tunnel. "I wouldn't be surprised if that blew the skin off our bodies so that he could reanimate our skeletons and have an undead army to travel the desert." "Are you an idiot. He studies the elemental artes, not any dark magics-" The first guy started. "You two fools realize I can hear you, right?" Sin yelled up at them. The two sighed and jumped, only after a crowd of the others did. "Alright we need to head south. He said, trying to see through the dusty air. His senses, much enhanced by magic, were able to just see the edge of a wall, although no further. He expected certain areas of the desert had not collapsed and left floating island pillars, and he knew it was going to be a long journey. Walking forward slightly, he felt a rumble. One that was only far too familiar from earlier. The ground was wet from the flood, but he suspected it was about to get worse, as water from the east started rolling towards the group. Inside it though, were several demons, putting up a slight black barrier around the waves, although still being tossed around in the water. "Run." Were the only words Sin had to say before taking off the the south, his gang taking haste behind him. |

Amber smirked at the gossiping mages before stepping into the wind column herself. Admittedly, she already had doubts as to Sin's concepts of "Slow" and "Unharmed," and was partially justified in a drop that wasted little time but managed to avoid breaking her legs. The air in the canyon was warm and wet, with the odd sensation of being far colder around her feet than at her head. A canyon it may be, but it was still in the hottest region in the known world and the heat wasn't going to give up to a splash of cold water. Amber hadn't realized how used to the desert's heat she was. She knew it couldn't be all that much colder, but it had her wishing she wore thicker pants. The ground rumbled and a tidal wave of water and demons appeared. Her companions wasted little time in vacating its path. Amber didn't even entertain the idea of trying to part it like earlier. I wouldn't be the least bit helpful. She out-ran most of the mages, keeping pace behind Sin. She probably could've out-ran him if she wanted, but he seemed to know where he was going. Amber glanced back. Water wasn't stupid enough not to investigate all possible avenues of escape. It was still behind them and catching up quickly. "We need to get to higher ground," Amber said to Sin, well aware she was stating the obvious. "Unless you have a spell that can make a bunker in less than five seconds." |

((This is an actual Cannon post, I hope you don't mind the power playing.)) The dark wave continued to chase them, several of Sin's men getting swallowed and no doubt killed in seconds. The group continued running south, coming up to a straight runway. Sin stayed quiet as thoughts rushed through his head on how to get away. Within a matter of seconds he was already drawing runes in the air, before shouting something and pointing forwards. A thin strip of air condensed in front of them, moving towards the end of the desert. He threw Amber in before looking back, only two of his men left. They quickly made it in the air stream too, before Sin jumped in himself, just making it out of the way. The four of them proceeded to slam into the wall at the end of the canyon. The wave however was still approaching, barely giving the group time to have themselves launched upwards over the cliff. The entire group was bloodied and hurt, although safe, while the wave smashed into the canyon wall. "I am... Sorry, Powers..." Sin barely managed to get out, as he tried to sit up. He seemed to have been the worst damaged, his arms both visibly broken, as well as his leg. One of the men, luckily was a healer and rushed over to help him before making his way to Amber and healing any damage to her. The group sat for several moments recuperating before turning to face the land in front of them, only seeing crowds of wide eyed people staring at them. "Woah... Sin, did you have anything to do with this?" The first mage asked. "He studies the elemental magics! Not any of that bloody light or dark stuff you fool-" The second one started before he was silenced by a wave of Sins hand. "What do you think they are staring at?" Sin asked his three remaining followers. They had found a new civilization, but he had no idea what was so different. It was only a matter of moments before he saw many creatures, bigger than humans. The looked sort of like metal humans, only very large. He continued looking at them, his other companions staying close. "What sort of strange crystai do you hold?" One of the metal humans asked stepping forward. "What is that, some sort of magic?" One of the mages asked. "Do not lie to us human. If you are holding an illegal crystai of that power, you will be eradicated." The metal human sounded more stern as he stepped forward. Stepping forward too, Sin approached the metal beast. "We do not know what you are speaking of-" He was quickly shut up as the beasts arm turned around and became some sort of large fire arm. Sin on the other hand lit both of his hands on fire putting one near the gun. "EVERYONE! RETURN TO YOUR HOMES!" The large metal human shouted, and many others in the crowd started pushing them away, while several came up to Sin and Amber. "Come with us humans!" It demanded. Sin couldn't tell, but he thought Amber might have wanted to resist. "Don't." He said simply. "We have to go with them, we are too outnumbered." The metal humans grabbed each of them before marching along, at an incredible speed. They quickly made their way aboard a large vehicle. "Get everyone off the train. Tell them it is official Mechry business." The leader demanded before piles of people got off the train. Sin and Amber were thrown into a compartment while the other two were thrown in a separate one. "Search them for any crystai or Ilden markings!" The leader demanded before one shot a beam at each of them. "They seem to be clean of both sir. It is like they have never even been near crystai." The one who scanned them sounded nervous. "Please, tell me, what is this crystai you speak of." Sin demanded. "You came from across the canyon... Sir, there must not be cryst-" "Of course there isn't you fool." The leader smacked the other one. "How long did it take you to figure that out. We need to get Aren now." Sin coughed, still curious as to what this crystai was. "Crystai is what our entire society runs off of. It is an energy source with much history, and it is the most powerful thing in existence." "I would have thought that mana was the most powerful thing..." Sin whispered to himself. "Tell us, human. How did you create fire with your bare hands?" The Mechanical human asked, sitting down, and actually talking more politely. "Umm, well like any good mage I channeled the mana in the air through my body, and using bren I commanded fire to channel from the astral plane to my hands and-" Sin began, but the Mechry looked confused. "Hold on human... What is mana... And bren... and the astral plane?" The mechry were totally confused. "Umm, female, would you mind leaving for another room for now?" The mechry asked before quickly escorting her out. "You can't tell me you know nothing about-" Sin was about to mock them for not knowing even the basics of magic before the simple fact hit him. They have never heard of magic... I have never heard of Crystai "This is a serious issue." Sin said, his face turning stern. "I know it is an odd demand, but I need to see whatever figure head of government you may have. Immediately." |

((Sure, no problem.))
Amber recognized the spell Sin was casting. It took a moment before it clicked what the mage was attempting, but before she could protest he had already thrown her into the jet stream. She had barely enough time to throw up a magic buffer before she hit the wall, and she hit it hard even with the cushion. She bounced off it and a second later found herself at the bottom of a mage pile. She wasn't there long, however. She could hear the rumbling of the coming flood, and suddenly everyone was moving upwards. They landed gracelessly at the top of the cliff, the pile quickly tumbling away.
Amber had a number of broken ribs, a shattered femur, and a strong concussion. All three were a lingering ache after a few moments of exposure to healing magic. She still had a pounding headache, but she had worse hangovers before.
Something about the metal people reminded Amber of Clockwork Children, probably the fact that they were metal and resembled people. They had a different air about them, though. They seem exude an aura of respect and authority, as opposed to the wretchedness and fear she sensed from the Clockworks she met, or the outright domineering and aggression put forth by a tyrannical occupier. They moved more naturally as well.
Amber's hand went to her collar again, ready to summon her armor. However, Sin had a point. She simply raised her hands and allowed herself to be taken.
Amber put up her arms defensively as the beam washed over her. When she realized it wasn't an attack, she put her arms down and mentally chided herself for being so jumpy. Not that it wasn't warranted, but now she felt like an idiot.
Amber glanced at Sin. It struck her as an odd request, if only by the wording, but she knew enough about questioning suspects to know you can't give them the opportunity to get their stories straight. With a sarcastic nod, she stood up and left the room, followed one of the - What did they call themselves? - Mechry, who closed the door behind them. "Female?" she remarked as she was led to another compartment. "You guys have an odd manner of speech. I mean, that was beyond formal, and I have to say I'm not comfortable being referred to by taxonomic classification." The Mechry opened the door and Amber led herself in. She turned around and faced her captor. "The name's Amber, in case you're wondering. I'm not big on formalities." |

The train pumped along at a blinding pace. Sin was astounded by its speed, and that it was not powered by magic. He and the being, who had revealed itself to be what was called a Mechroid, or more often called a Mechry, had spoken much, and exchanged great amounts of details about their own side. "Human, excuse me please, but this has been a rather exciting day. I have yet to have requested your name." The Mechry put out, during the middle of their conversation. "I am fairly old, so please excuse me. My name is Sier." Sin was slightly shocked at the name before nodding his head. "I am Sin Tekinokashibi, Grand Unity Mage." "Sin, you seemed to express an strange emotion upon hearing my name." The robot mentioned. "Well ages ago," Sin explained, "there was a great hero, by the name of Sierreq. I just find it rather bizarre, since this hero was a clockwork child, rather similar to you Mechry." "Clockwork Children... I would like to see one once. I find it amazing that machines exist that do not run off of Crystai." The robot marveled at the idea, while a flash in Sierreq's chest caught his eye. "Was that a Crystai?" He asked, very curious to see the power source of their country. "I will not show you mine, but I do carry several. I am a guard Mech, so I confiscate them regularly from those who would abuse its power. Those people do not deserve it, and as such must live the rest of their lives, powerless and weak." Sierreq stretched out his arm, a tiny crystal sliding into his hand. He held it out to Sin, who reached out to touch it. Upon touching it, Sin winced in pain and pulled back. "What is it?" "This might be a far more serious issue than we thought." Sin reached out again and put his hand over the crystal, nodding to himself. The train conveniently slowed to a halt at this point. "Are we here?" He asked, and the Mechry nodded. He jumped up and ran out of the train, Sierreq following closely behind. "What is going on Sin?" Sierreq asked, his powerful legs pushing him along much faster than Sin's. "I need to speak to your leaders." He said, with Sierreq nodding. "The Crystai... They are not natural. They destroy mana." Sin quickly slowed, taking in a deep breath, before kneeling. Sierreq stopped next to him. "Your air itself is plagued... There is no way I can even stay here and survive." "But, you... We have humans here. Why wouldn't you-" "I have spent my entire life, living, breathing, and absorbing the life energy of mana. I cannot survive here Sierreq. I need to alert your leaders of our existence, and then we can arrange a meeting back in the Unity." Sin said, standing up slowly. "How long will you be able to stay here?" He asked, sounding alarmed at the idea of Sin suddenly just dying. "No more than a couple of weeks at max. I could prolong it if I had a way of getting more mana. We have to go though." "I don't understand... The Crystai is what powers our life. I couldn't imagine it would kill another." Sierreq looked up, towards the top of the tower of the Stronghold. On top there was a giant red crystai, glowing in the night sky. "What is that?" Sin asked. "Come watch. Every night at midnight, it flashes and restores power to the Crystai. It is really quite wonderful." Sin took a few steps back and looked at it. It slowly started glowing brighter and brighter, before shooting out a giant wave of red energy and a brilliant flash. Sin though, felt like he had been stomped on by a dragon, and fell over. He recovered in a matter of seconds, but looked a little pale. "That was less than pleasant..." He said, Sierreq helping him up. "So what are your plans Sin." The giant robot asked. "I need to set up a meeting. You need to come to our country. If that thing is going on every night, then I guess that the average citizen of the Unity could last... Eight weeks at most. They wouldn't be healthy near the end though." Sierreq nodded. " So, the idea is, we need a way to make sure that this Crystai doesn't affect us. We need to block it off, or stop it at the source." "You aren't considering destroying it, are you?" "Um..." Sierreq's eyes narrowed as Sin contemplated it. "No. If you Mechry are powered by it, then I promise, I will never to try and destroy the Crystai." The two nodded at each other and made their way into the Stronghold. "I just hope Amber is doing alright." |

Amber pulled herself up off the floor. For much of the trip, she had been feeling a little woozy, as if she had been holding her breath a long time. She also had the impression that the magic in her collar had been fluctuating, but managed to stay within tolerance for maintaining its enchantment. She had seen Sin bolt soon after the train had stopped, but as his pursuer didn't seem to be trying to apprehend them, she assumed she herself had no need to hurry. He would have said something otherwise. As she was being led off the train, she notice a lot of people earnestly looking out the windows on the same side of the train while others were either ignoring it or trying to ignore the tourists. Curious, she approached one who she thought would most likely give her a straight answer: A child. "What are we looking at?" she asked, kneeling down to his level. She smiled at him pleasantly. "It's the Great Crystai," the boy replied, pointing to a red, glowing object up on the highest tower. "It's about to recharge all the Crystai in the world, just like it does every night!" Amber looked up at the tower. A moment later, her world went crimson and she went from feeling asphyxiated to drowned. That's how she wound up on the floor. She sat there on her knees a moment, reflexively coughing even though there was nothing physically objectionable in her lungs or the air in general. She felt like she was punched in the stomach by a large boxing glove mounted on the front of a speeding train. She looked up at all the people giving her concerned looks. "Post-nasal drip," she said, still gagging a little. She could only assume this was a rare occurrence, if ever. "Hits me real hard sometimes. I'll be fine." |

Sin followed Sierreq, who lead him through thin twisting corridors. One who had not ever been here would never be able to find their way. Mechry were everywhere, and every time he passed one, they gave him a strange look, but realized he was with Sierreq. Not a single human was in sight. The two kept going until they made it to a large door, with gears shifting upon it. Sierreq placed his massive hand on it and opened the door, leading Sin inside. Inside there was a single Mechry, who looked considerably older than any of the other Mechry Sin had seen. His armor plates were rusting off, and he had a large trail of black smoke coming out from behind him. He was also much bulkier, compared to the already girthy Mechry. "Greeting Captain Sierreq. What have you brought me today?" He said, while his insides seemed to shriek as he spoke. He seemed rather happy though. "You remember how the desert collapsed earlier today?" Sierreq asked pointing north. The Mechry shook his head. "It did. There was a flood and it fell in on itself." "Oh, really! That is quite something! What happened to the desert?" "It collapsed..." Sin looked at Sierreq, who was trying to explain the idea of the desert sinking to their clearly senile leader. "We have never been able to cross the desert sir, due to the heat. But upon the desert settling, a group of travelers climbed out of the newly formed canyons, claiming to have come from a land to the north. I have brought you their leader." The Mechry peered over his desk at Sin, although tall, was dwarfed by the machines. "Hmm... He is dressed oddly, I admit. Are you sure this isn't a prank?" Sierreq stopped for a minute in shock, the room going silent. Sin looked at the robot before collecting a ball of electricity in his hand. "Is that enough proof sir?" "Did you check him for-" "Yes sir, he has no illegal Crystai." Sierreq reassured him. "Sir, I come from a land called Horundul. To the North there is a country called the Elemental Unity..." Sin started explaining everything about his country, as well as why theirs was killing him. |
