The door to the DADA classroom is open a crack, which would entice even the slightest curiosity as to what is inside. Upon entry, it seems that there isn't much to be seen. Desks spread out just short of in straight and orderly rows, facing a chalkboard at one end of the room. A larger desk, although still not very impressive, sits to the right of the chalkboard, but appears empty.
The interest lies in the edges of the classroom, which hold all manner of photographs from different countries, shelves of books and random knickknacks... There are a few small tables holding Dark detectors as well, and a pelt that usually is hanging in Professor Reynolds' office has been moved to the wall behind his desk. The windows are draped in rust-colored heavy drapery, but the room isn't dark. Just mysterious, and the message on the chalkboard only adds to the feeling of the room.
Gemini was not so comfortable with the whole magic thing, she was not sure she wanted to see anything that classified as 'dark arts.' Though, she probably would see at least one dark thing in her life so this class might be a good thing. It would teach her how to fight them. If she met something in a dark alley that was going to kill her, she wanted to at least go down fighting. She glanced at the board and immediately knew she would have no trouble following those instructions; she had no idea what a quintaped was. Gemini shrugged to herself and took a seat in the exact middle of the room. Well of the chairs anyway.
Poking her red head through the door which was only slightly opened, Penny took a cautious look around. There was something disconcerting about seeing a door ajar and knowing you had to walk in. While her green eyes didn't land on anything dangerous the Ravenclaw eased the rest of the way into the room. First, she noticed a little first year Hufflepuff sitting in the middle of the room, then Penny read the board.
A small gasp escaped her mouth as her eyes darted back around the room. A quintaped?! Really?! Her uncle had told her about them once. She couldn't remember everything he had said but she did remember one underlying point. The things were dangerous! Since she couldn't spot the thing Penny decided it was at least safe to find a seat as the instructions said. Walking carefully the Ravenclaw made her way to the center of the room and sat down to the left of the first year making sure to leave the desk on her right open for JD.
"How are you today?" She spoke softly so as not to spook what may or may not be in the room. Her green eyes were restless. Constantly moving around the room. Her uncle had been a man of adventure and if a creature could give him pause then she needed to be worried.
Aidan sauntered into the DADA classroom with an itch of anticipation. The day had been slow and boring thus far so he was seriously hoping for a good class this period. A glance at the board gave some promise to his hopes. Smirking, the Slytherin found a seat near the back and sank into it.
Stepping through the door, TJ looked around cautiously. She remembered Professor Reynolds from before, and was curious as to what he would do this time in class. Looking at the board she nearly groaned aloud. A quintaped??? Now, TJ wasn't exactly frightened of animals, but there was a good reason she didn't take Care of Magical Creatures...and the quintaped was one. Wasn't that like rated xxxx?
Taking a seat in the back corner as far from the front as possible, she pulled her wand out just incase. Hoping this time Ivan would appear!

Strolling into the classroom JD looked around not even paying attention to the instructions on the board. Spotting Penny his face turned into a grin and took the empty seat next to her. Glancing around she didn't see the professor so leaning in she whispered into her ear "Hi." before giving her a quick kiss on the cheek. It'd been awhile since he'd seen her and hoped maybe they could go for a walk or something before lunch.
She appeared restless her eyes not focusing on anything making him curious. Had something happened? "What's up?"
Penny giggled as her prince charming sat down and kissed her on the cheek. Leaning her head on his shoulder she whispered back, "Hey." She hadn't seen him in a while and had forgotten how good it was to be with him. Never mind that they were in class. His question brought her back to where they were and what was in here with them.
"The board says don't touch the quintaped but I can't find the Merlin blasted thing." She breathed.

Her giggle made him smile even more, he'd missed that! "Quintaped?" he murmured at her words, his gaze flickered around the room that he'd not really taken in when he first strolled into the room. Hmmm furry...5 legged creature. He knew that much, he was good at any subject but ones requiring a wand, and he loved creatures!
His eyes fell on a pelt, he wondered if it was a quintaped pelt or if there really was a creature lurking somewhere in the room. "Does thet look like a quintaped pelt?" he asked softly his eyes moving around the room even with his question.
Penny followed his gaze to the pelt hanging behind the Professor's desk. While it looked suspicious she couldn't answer his question with any certainty. "I'm not sure." She shrugged. "My uncle told me about them once. They aren't really dangerous. That's pretty much the underlying point that I got."
Okay, so being a Ravenclaw and admitting that you don't know something really sucks. She gave him an apologetic smile.
Ashlyn cautiously entered the DADA classroom, not exactly looking forward to the class. One, it was typically hard and two, it usually involved something scary. As she walked, she slowly looked around the room at the students, looking for an empty seat. Eyes landing on a familiar face, the Slytherin smiled to herself as she walked toward the seat next to Aidan and sat down. "Hey," she said to him casually before turning to read the words on the board. Don't touch the QUINTAPED?! Ashlyn let out an EW! before clapping her hand over her mouth. NO WAY was she staying for this lesson, she thought as she seriously contemplated getting up and leaving. Her eyes darted around the room, not finding anything suspicious. Professor Reynolds would not seriously bring a monster like that to class, would he? Ashlyn started to question the man's mental state.
Talking a few deep breaths to calm herself, Ashlyn became aware of the pair of Ravenclaws in front of her and their conversation about the beast. "Not dangerous?" she hissed at the girl. "They eat people!" she added in a frantic whisper as she subconsiously inched her chair closer to Aidan. She had a really bad feeling about this class.
Penny gave a start as a Slytherin behind her hissed about the quintaped. She turned around red hair flipping over her shoulder. "I said they weren't "really" dangerous! And I'm sure the Professor wouldn't have one loose in the classroom! So back off!" Her voice hadn't gotten any louder but her accent had definitely gotten worse. Getting angry always did that to her for one reason or another. She fixed the Slytherin with a look and then turned back around to JD.
Adam had made a quick trip out to the forest after setting things up for class, amused by the very thought that his little cryptic note would get a few reactions. Even if he didn't witness them, they could really tell something about people. How adventurous they were, that sort of thing, but he'd had a meeting to take care of first. Centaurs didn't like waiting, and the one he'd spoken to was rather more brusque than the usual. He was good for keeping aware of what went on around the castle, though, so Adam kept on his good side. he knew his spells still held as well, anyway, so this was just another little lark. One that he couldn't quite say he was sure the other staff members knew about, but it was all legal for once. Therefore, not anything to worry about. He was actually making sure the kids were safe after all, which should please certain people, even if it also might surprise them. It surprised himself, actually, btu then keeping the students safe also kept him clear of people that might still be looking for him...
Either way, he'd slipped quietly into the classroom as an argument between a Ravenclaw and a Slytherin looked to be brewing, a simple Disillusionment charm on himself that he let drop as he leaned against the wall nearest the door and shut it just as silently. Anyone else who wanted to show up for class would have to announce their arrival, and deal with the consequences. At least the quintaped in the room wasn't actually a danger. (unlike Scotty, who was in his cage after the incident last year and restricted to his office at all times. Especially as the creature would most likely not keep him on Kenzie's good side. Or her associates'.) "Only if you're in the wrong place at the wrong time, Miss Montague," he finally commented, moving from his idle position against the wall to stride forward toward the front of the room. "We aren't going to be facing any quintapeds in class today, either. Just the idea seems to have made my point. Danger is always around, and knowing what we can is important."
Turning to face the class again, he leaned against his desk, leather coat flaring out slightly. "What would you think would be the best spell to defend yourself if, in fact, there was a wild quintaped roaming the classroom?" Like he would have left his classroom door open if that had been the case. Taking care of himself and keeping this job were infinitely more important than actually testing the students in the first lesson against real danger. That could wait until he was certain they could handle themselves.
Ashlyn gave the girl an incredulous look as she turned around and flipped out on her. "What about eating people is not really dangerous?" she asked the girl slowly. Really, she thought, weren't Ravenclaws supposed to be smart? The Slytherin stared back somewhat amused at the girl as she glared, apparently trying to intimidate her. Ashlyn was not so easily intimidated, however. The thought of it made her chuckle lightly, making her forget her apprehension about the quintaped temporarily. She merely rolled her eyes at the girl's outburst and opened her mouth to say something about needing to relax when the professor appeared out of nowhere. Thankfully there was not a quintaped by his side.
"That's good to know, Professor," she told him with a gratefule smile. Apparently they weren't going to be seeing any live quintapeds today and for that she was immensly relieved. The Slytherin then contemplated his question. What spell would she use? Well, Unforgivables came to mind but she was fairly certain she wouldn't be allowed to use one of those. "Um, a Stunning Spell?" she answered hesitantly after raising her hand. "And then I'd get the heck out of here."
Gemini jumped when the professor spoke? Where had he come from? Well, he was a wizard, so she supposed he could have come from anywhere. She was a little freaked out, but she tried not to show it. But then he asked about what spell to use if they saw a quintwhatever. How on earth was she supposed to know how to fight it off if she had no idea what it was. Gemini raised her hand shyly. "Um...professor, what's a quintpaid?" Because she had absolutely no idea.

His eyes wide as the two girls started arguing, he was smart enough to not even get involved in that one. If Penny had asked his opinion he would have given her an answer, probably the one she'd want not the one he'd actually believe. But that was because, it was just like the age old questions from girls, Do I look fat? Does this look good on me the answer always obvious.
Turning to the front as the professor appeared and spoke, JD let out a breath of relief. "Would a shield charm work on it for protection, sir?" he asked raising his hand.
